Overall not a good experience. Just as you arrive, the negative things start to happen. They wouldn’t let us park in the hotel parking because “there weren’t free spots” although there were. They have said it was for other guests and sent us to park in parking area which was not near the hotel and was more expensive. Next, the floor in the room had stains, asked them to clean it, they faked the cleaning of it, still dirty. Shower is awful, rusty with no pressure and with stinky water. The same stinky water you get at the water machine in the restaurant or the pool bar. Food quality was very bed and oily. Fruits were not even washed/rinsed and we with some other tourists asked them to clean them, but they have brought them back still dirty. Coffee is mostly water tasting and the quality of the drinks/alcohol served at the bars was poor. Otherwise, the pool area was ok. In addition, for what it worths, the WiFi connection was also bad. Overall, wouldn’t recommend this place.

The occupied apartment was very good but we were unpleasantly surprised by all sorts of taxes over the price paid: parking fee, wi-fi priced on the upper floors of the hotel. There are some small bumps that distort the real price of accommodation and travel budget!

We stayed here only one night and everything was alright! The room was cleaned, guys from reception were very nice and polite. We paid 10 leva for parking. We also had breakfast included and were lots of options (fruits, cheese, eggs, cakes and cookies). Those 4 stars are rated correctly.

Long story short: DO NOT GO THERE. Very dirty room, rusty shower, spiders in the room. The four stars are a joke, we booked one night but left after the first. The staff didn't object anything, they kind of expected that people won't like it. The toilet wasn't sanitized at all and didn't feel secure. We got the first room replaced, but the new one was also miserable. Ruined vacation, will never come back.

So returned today after a wk at the Arena Mar. On the surface a modern looking hotel, bright and modern inside, rooms again fairly modern and comfortable with everything you'd need. Mini bar in fridge complete rip off when everything in shops/supermarkets exactly the same is sooooo cheap. Big down side to this place if you're English is the amount of German/ foreign guests from other countries. The whole of Golden Sands seems to be aimed at anything but English. I've been to Bulgaria 4 times in the last 3 years mostly to sunny beach and it's completely different vibe to Golden Sands. Food in hotel was ok but I wouldn't say I had one meal across the week I really enjoyed. Mainly lived off cold chips and pizza again the food seems aimed more to other nationality tastes. Drinks did the job if you drank all day, enough choice to get by with. Staff were a mixed bag, some friendly, some I could've knocked out happily due to being ignorant and rude. Originally I should've been staying in a different hotel with other family but due to an early hotel closure we ended up in separate hotels and were moved last minute to different Smartline hotels so I spend a lot of the week during day on my own after being told we couldn't use each other's hotels even though both Smartline brand and I was moved alone. There were only a few English people at the hotel I wish I'd have got to known earlier in the wk, one had incredible tattoos and the other was stunning, drop me a message I'll review you if you read this Haha. No seriously though the other English people seemed sound who were there but didn't even realise they were English till the holiday was nearly over so bit late after being bored silly everyday. On the whole I didn't have an awful wk but definitely could've been better and if we'd have all ended up together no doubt it would've been better

The hotel itself is lovely, decent pool, range of food, our room was spacious and overlooked the pool. It was nice and clean. There were 2 negative things that ruined it for me. 1)rude staff 2)no a la carte restaurant Other than one couple, we were the only English guests. This wouldn't usually bother me but the staff hardly speak a word of English and were highly rude towards us. Other than a simple drink order you can't have a conversation with anyone. Secondly the hotel boasts about having an a le carte restaurant. Having got dressed up and tried to book in the staff looked clueless at reception and said ask in the buffet restaurant. So we went down and asked a short haired lady about making a reservation. She waved her finger in my face and said 'no!' she said there was food here so why bother. She seemed really angry at the notion!? Basically they can't be bothered to serve people in the restaurant so they keep the doors locked, hide all menus and put you off if you asked about it. It's buffet food or no food.

7 nights of pure hell!! Miserable staff, food bland and undercooked, all German taste's!! It's not cheap either, Ibiza party party party all day an night with German propaganda music so loud at the bars that sleep is non existent until 7.00am. pool wasn't cleaned and murky with salami and public hair etc in it!! Don't touch the mini bar as it's more than the cost of the holiday... Bed linen was gray and stained. Shower was hanging off the wall, all inclusive was water downed beer and fake vodka. Staff looked filthy and fed up with life, streets and shops look like Beirut or Lebanon!! Albanian looking Mafia men stand guard everywhere and are very intimidating.. overpriced Chinese crap copies in the shop's, beach full of glass bottles and fag end's, the coach from airport was probably last used in the Kongo, single glassed and rattled and fell to piece's on way to hotels, driver smoking and on the mobile while driving, stunk of raki.. very aggressive again. Spa and indoor pool was shocking as filthy and un trained staff. Sex clubs opposite hotel and prostituting on the streets. Every restaurant was filthy and they can't cook for toffee!! That's being kind. Thomas Cook rep was useless and lived in the hotel up the road and sneaked out every day to buy her food at minimart, that tells you alot eh!! No entertainment for the evening, no working air conditioning, taxi drivers constantly begging you for a fare, the nearest city Varna looks like a war zone in Syria!! We will never ever ever ever ever return or recommend Bulgaria!! Stay well away English people!! It's just Ibiza from the 70s a second world run down unsafe nasty crap hole that Thomas Cook should never even fly to. We were appalled and disgusted at the whole situation.. my wife has never seen a place like it and was mortified at the attitude and state of golden sands. Should be closed and burnt to the ground.. unbelievable!!!
