The accommodation was very well supplied, including a very nice BarBQ on the deck....a fresh frozen coho from Haida Wild in Masset made for a delicious meal....an after dinner walk to Haida House and then out to the beach for a return walk on the beach was "priceless".

We stayed at Grandpa’s Guesthouse on the Richardson Ranch - http://www.richardsonranch.ca/grampa-s.html I honestly can’t imagine a more perfect rental for a family, on Haida Gwaii. The Tlell river is truly on your doorstep, and the ocean is just a few minutes’ walk away. Ranchers Don and Leslie are the nicest hosts you could ever have, and gave our 6 year-old ranch experiences she’ll never forget – helping to move cattle from pasture to pasture, feeding the horses, pony rides, collecting eggs from the chickens, running amok with the farm cats, fishing in the river, riding in a row boat, and more. The guest house is an original farmhouse from the early 20th century. It brings back memories for any of us who had family that used to farm, and yet all the modern conveniences are available, in humble measure (e.g. wireless access for us technology addicts, but don’t expect lightening speeds). I’ll never forget drinking wine out in front of the house, watching the sun set over the river, and having the horses meander over to “nose in” on what we were up to (the horses are often “free-range” and make great lawn mowers). For those of you that love natural beauty and can appreciate the priceless opportunity to share with your children what a working ranch is really like (cow pies and all!), I cannot recommend the ranch highly enough. The ranch is also mid-island and make for a great base camp for exploring all of what Haida Gwaii has to offer.

My friends and I enjoyed our stay at the other bigger property called Riverview guest house also owned by the Richardsons that's on Beitush road. (same road as for Haida house). Great spot as it was walking distance to the Tlell river, east beach and pesuta trail. It has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms, a full kitchen with all the basics for meals, games, books and puzzles, laundry (yay yay bonus was the washer and dryer!) and we enjoyed the covered deck every night. Wifi is available but limited. Reasonable rates so overall two thumbs up!
A trail leads through the misty meadows park to the east beach. Lovely with a wetland to dunes landscape! Another way to access the beach is a right turn off just before Haida house. Watch the tides for a great walk on the beach. This beach is actually an easier way to get close to the pesuta shipwreck but you can't go into the old wreck as the Tlell river mouth meets the straight there. If you can rent an ATV it would be a nice drive across the sand dunes. The Tlell river is full of fish and a pretty sight. Thanks Leslie!

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Riverview Guest House! This was an ideal spot for our group of 6 adults, with three bedrooms (two at one end of the house and one at the other) and two full baths. The house was super well-equipped; can’t think of a thing the kitchen didn’t have and there were board games as well.
The location was peaceful and being in the centre of Graham Island, it was easy to access everything we wanted to see. The hiking trail to the beached shipwreck was close by, and the Tlell River just across the road. Add to that a warm welcome and tour around Richardson Ranch and we couldn’t have asked for a nicer home away from home!

Our three night stay for my wife and I in Grandpa’s Guesthouse was fabulous from every perspective. The house itself is a classic, and the setting is eye popping. We could easily have based our whole Haida Gwaii week visit there. Best was the reception which we received from the owners. They made us feel like part of the Ranch. We were taken by the earlier review by a family which described how their six year old was introduced to ranch life with the horses, cattle, chickens, river, etc... Perfect for young children. Many thanks to the Richardson’s for a very memorable experience.

Tlell is a good spot if you want to be central - halfway between Masset and Queen Charlotte. Grandpa's Guesthouse has 2 bedrooms plus 2 rooms for children and one bathroom. The beds are both comfortable. The living room is large, with a TV and comfy seating. The kitchen has an electric stove, fridge, microwave, plates and cutlery. There is Wi-Fi. The house is part of a beef ranch, veterinary clinic, and feed and pet food store. The horses graze by your window and you're beside the river where the cattle raze on the water meadows. Just across the highway is a pebble/ shingle beach for good walks at low tide.
