The Carbonear Motel is a very handy and well run motel right on the bay. The other motel (Fong's) is up on the highway and not in town. The proprietor of the Carbonear is very friendly, and efficient. He also runs one of the better gift shops on the Island as well. The motel serves as an excellent base of operations for the area, and the the view of the bay keeps you in touch with the ocean. The motel units have kitchettes and ample storage areas. Our unit was a little worn in terms of furnishings, but was very clean.

We stayed 2 nights at Carbonear Motel, in room #4. It is a top-floor room but, because the hotel is really below the road, it turned out to be street-level, and right on road. The room was OK and sufficiently clean (especially for the price), but the kitchenette was quite old and not very practical. We also kept on hitting the feet of the very small table when moving around, because of how they protrude from the table. Because the window was right on the road, we pretty much had to keep the curtains shut all the time. Not ideal if you want to, or have to stay in the room for some time during the day.

What appealed to us prior to booking here was that it was a housekeeping unit and the ad also stated free Wifi. Unfortunately, the internet signal was inadequate for guests to connect with either laptops or iphones. There was no AC but a fan was provided but when it was turned on the overhead light went out and pretty much stayed out during our three day stay. On a positive note, the location suited us as we explored that part of the province ... and it wasn't that far from St. John's either. There's a nice little gift shop on site. We probably wouldn't stay here another time unless a few upgrades were made between now and then.

We just stayed at this motel. The room was spotless, clean. We brought our own Keurig pods. Bathroom had gorgeous, soft towels and personal cleaning supplies. Close to hospital. Kitchen was stocked with everything needed. Best rooms for view of ocean were 105 and 106. I hope this helps future patrons.

My husband stayed here for 2 weeks 2 years ago and found it very central for where he wanted to sight see. That is why we stayed there for 2 nights middle of July. It is very handy to have the little kitchenette and the room is quite large with a nice bathroom. We had a room over looking the harbour and the view is fantastic. There is a boardwalk that goes right by the place and is a nice walk to see part of the town. The owners were quite friendly and the place is dog friendly. An added bonus for us as our dog usually has to sleep in the car most places we go.

Small bed, lots of room fragrance (thank goodness I am not scent-sensitive) . Ancient, woody/cottage interior. I will definitely make sure I find a nicer accommodation next time.

Few motels are outside St. John's. This one, though dated, is adequate if you choose a harbor-view with a kitchen window that overlooks the harbor.

Very accommodating. Clean rooms, comfy bed. Convenience of a Kitchenette for little longer stays. it was close to the hospital so worked out great for my situation. Would stay there again in the future.

The motel is located in a convenient spot in Carbonear and does have a kitchenette (stove, microwave and fridge) in it- always nice to have when travelling! One side note: there was no hairdryer in the unit. It had more of a cabin or camper feel but that was fine for my needs! It is not a 3, 4 or 5 star accommodation but, it doesn't claim to be; it was clean and the women who checked us in was friendly and accommodating. The wireless internet was inclusive of the price and was fast during my stay. No complaints from me but, it may not be the locale for the picky traveller. It would be great for families, couples or friends who want a low key, no frills place to stay in beautiful Carbonear!

I'm not sure about the previous reviews, but as I write this, I am staying at the Carbonear Hotel. It was recommended to me by my parents who stayed here when they were in their twenties, and the hotel operated under the name "Butt's Motel. I didn't know what to expect before coming. But I didn't expect the "Hilton" or a "Holiday Inn".
My room faces the street, my car is parked right in front, facing the street, not on the street.
My room is clean, new paint, fridge and stove, and three piece bath.
The hotel backs on to the bay, a beautiful view, any time of day. It's a close walk to the boardwalk and the origional downtown area.
I've stayed in four different hotels over the past week on my trip out to Newfoundland. As far as character, I'd say this was the best so far. Still have the return trip to do.
If you are looking to experience a little of the local hospitality and local atmosphere, I'd certainly make the recomendation to stay here. But not if you are looking for that "Hilton" experience. You can get a factory made motel/hotel anywhere...

"Room 16 was great because not only did you have the two rooms, but a common area/kitchen. It was great if you have people over (as we did since we were a group of 8) and hang out instead of being confined to a bedroom."
