The Kings Arms Hotel Amersham is a 4* 35 bedroom Inn dating from the 1400’s and has been refurbished to offer all modern amenities whilst maintaining the historical character of the building. The hotel has been used extensively in TV and Film productions including Four Weddings and a Funeral, Miss Marple and the TV series Midsomer Murders. It has also hosted many famous guests such as Oliver Cromwell. Stayed for 1 night bed and breakfast with my husband. We booked the Suite (room 1) which was in the main house above the kitchen.
The room is lovely and cosy. Plenty of space with a jacuzzi bath and separate shower in the suite, adding to the intimacy. The toilet is through a separate door but still within the suite. Beautiful high vaulted ceiling with plenty of wooden beams, and an amazing huge window. The room came with complimentary wine, nuts, raisins, bottles of water and a nespresso machine as well as a kettle. I would have given 5 out of 5 but unfortunately we did get woken up early by the kitchen getting prepared for breakfast which was annoying.
The hotel takes it’s COVID-19 precautions seriously. Staff were always masked, as were the guests, with plenty of signage and sanitizer available.
We had dinner elsewhere but we did have drinks in the bar. Good choice of drinks available and the bar staff were really friendly. The bar is simply lovely, with open fireplaces and a great atmosphere.
The breakfast was served in the dining room, another lovely area to eat with the wooden beams and fireplaces. Plenty of hot choices and continental items. My husband had a great Full English with good quality bacon and sausage.
We enjoyed our stay and would certainly stay again, most likely try the restaurant for dinner next time.

I stayed at the Kings Arms for one night in a suite (room 2). It has that olde-worlde charm about it - very high, beamed ceiling; four poster bed; leaded windows. You do feel like you have stepped into the 15th century!
Everything is all in one room with only the toilet having its own little cubicle. The bath is a decent size (I did keep slipping down as I wasn't tall enough to reach the end lol); it is usually a Jacuzzi bath but this element has been removed due to Covid. The shower is in the corner and has lots of gadgets in it (I just used the waterfall shower bit). There is a large vanity mirror over the sink. Towels are plenty big enough and not the tiny 'hand towel' size you find in most hotels these days.
The bed was really comfy and you really do feel like a king/queen sitting in it.
There is a hospitality tray with teas and coffees and also a complimentary small bottle of red wine with jars of snacks and 2 small bottles of water.
The only thing I would say is the lighting is not very bright (not a problem) but it's not very good when you're trying to apply makeup lol. (The mirror over the sink in the bathroom is LED but I couldn't get it to work.)
This room would be great for couples.
The restaurant is intimate and the food is absolutely amazing! I'm not sure where they got their chef from but I hope they are paying him well! I'd be happy to book a table in here even if I wasn't staying at this hotel.
All the staff were very pleasant and accommodating during my stay - I needed an iron/ironing board and was brought one to my room straight away.
I will definitely be visiting here again!! Well impressed!!

The hotel certainly satisfies the ‘quirky’ category. However… We were given room 7, a standard heritage room over the bar. The room itself was an adequate size for one night, but really needed a refurb. The furniture was dark mahogany coloured MDF and would have been more at home in an office than a bedroom. As the small casement window only lets in a minimal amount of light the furniture made the room even darker. It was a good job we didn’t take our cat with us, as the tiny bathroom did not offer any space to swing one. The bathroom floor had two steps in it, one right by the small washbasin which added to the fun of staying on one’s feet. The shower was small – elbows suffered knocks – but the water pressure was very good which was pleasing. Unfortunately the temperature control was stuck on hot and couldn’t be moved. Just to keep one on one’s toes the water occasionally went from very hot to scalding. The bed was comfortable with nice quality linen. As the room was hot and the duvet winter weight we opened the window and were kept awake until the last people left the bar – but that’s what you must expect from a front facing room. We would have liked to dine in the restaurant but there was only veggie main which I didn’t fancy so we ate in the bar, which was OK but not the most relaxing atmosphere. We found it quite surprising that one young man (in a group) came in with a sack of takeaway Indian, got a plate from the barman and proceeded to eat said takeway at the table! Our food was good – hot and tasty. Breakfast was hot but greasy, and the coffee weak. The staff were friendly enough but not anything more than I would have expected. One thing we couldn’t understand – the building dates from the 1400s and is full of old world features as one would expect. Why then had someone decided it was in the best possible taste to festoon the ancient beams in the bar and restaurant with fairy lights? They added nothing to the atmosphere and took away much of the integrity of the building. All in all we would not stay there again, and I would certainly warn anyone with any kind of balance or mobility issue to think twice before staying.

This was new years eve so we specifically requested a quiet room. We were told by Jenna that the stable room was away from the festivities and other guests so would be quiet.
When we arrived our room was on the way from the bar and restaurant to the other rooms, meaning you have to walk right past our door. When we got in the the toilet was broken and constantly flushing. We managed to pull the button out but it would break again every time we used it. The cold tap wasn't cold, meaning you couldn't drink from it. There was one window that had a completely useless blind that was put up so it let the light in. The room had paper thin walls, I could hear the numerous excited children next door and it seemed every drunken screaming patron did indeed walk right passed our door to get to their room. I don't blame the people having fun, it's not their fault but I couldn't sleep until about 2:30am. I'm furious I paid a premium price for a "quiet room" to have the worst room in the hotel.
Breakfast was just as appalling. I had salmon and scrambled egg. The salmon was brown and was clearly out of date, I couldn't eat it and just wanted to go home. My partner had the full English and said it had been under the hotlamp for some time.
This hotel is beautiful but it's a complete rip off, don't book if you actually want to enjoy a nights sleep.

We were guests at a wedding and the reception was being held at the Kings Chapel so in terms of location, the Kings Arms Hotel was a perfect location. We made the booking online which was all very easy and the communication beforehand was excellent. Everything is expensive these days, I don't mind paying a high price but I expect the standard of the accommodation to match the price. The buildings themselves are beautiful with many olde worlde features. We stayed in the old part of the hotel which consisted of a downstairs bathroom and had a small table and chair in the hallway. The stairs led up to a pleasant bedroom with a wardrobe, small table and a wall mounted television. There was only one bedside table and lamp because there was just about enough room on the other side of the bed to walk down sideways. Again, accepting of the fact that it's an old beautiful building with lovely wooden beams, one doesn't mind these things as it's part of the charm. However, I was disappointed in the internal decorations and the uncomfortable bed. There was a roman blind which was broken and couldn't be opened, the decorative throw on the bed had a huge hole in it, and a clear outline of a hot iron imprint which had melted the carpet. This is unfortunate and one doesn't expect the hotel to lay a new carpet with every mark. Old oak beams can gather dust and cobwebs but some of the cobwebs in the bedroom had been there for some considerable time. The bathroom was clean and very well presented with white towels and bathroom accessories (shower gel, shampoo, conditioner, soap). There was a large towel rail in the bathroom which didn't work. The bathroom without any heating was fairly cold. There was a radiator in the hall which we turned on and left the bathroom door open in order to help overcome this problem. I reported this to reception in the morning and politely asked for someone to look at it. We were staying for 2 nights. For whatever reason, the towel rail remained broken. I mentioned this fault again at reception when checking out. The shower, whilst plentiful from the shower head, sprayed water in every direction from the main bath taps whilst in use. Please can you employ more staff at breakfast time, as there only appeared to be one waiter for our first breakfast who was doing his best but seemed flustered due to the large number of people he was serving. When our cooked breakfast finally arrived, it was luke warm, as was the coffee.

We stayed Just one night to meet up with family but we’re impressed by how friendly and helpful all the staff were. Breakfast was delicious with lots of fresh fruit, melons etc which were fresh and well chosen. Our room was very quaint but a little dark and overly warm. The friendly receptionist suggested we should ask for one of the more modern rooms with more light next time we stay and they will do their utmost to accommodate. On our way home the receptionist rang to let us know we had left our iPhone charger behind. She offered to post it to us, which we received today. That was the first time any hotel have done that for us, I was really impressed. We will definitely stay there again when we next visit our family.

I had a decent stay at this hotel on the first day of restrictions being eased in May.
The late check in process was simple with reception manned 24-hours a day.
My room was well kept and only needed warming up on arrival due to the unseasonably cold weather. It was easy to get a good night of sleep.
Likely being the first day that breakfast could again be served in the restaurant, I’m sure systems will get smarter to ensure that the right combinations of foods are served in a timely manner. That said, all of the staff were very friendly.

We are pensioners and my husband has health issues so we decided to do something we had meant to do for years ie stay in an historic hotel. When we arrived our room smelt of smoke. We couldnt open the window but we hopedit would dissipate. There were pools of water on the ledge under the radiator and old water staining. We went to the bar but as all unoccupied tables had dirty glasses on them we left. At about 6.30pm we looked into the restaurant. Some people weresitting down among tables still with dirty afternoon tea dishes on them. When we returned we found that we couldnt have a shower as the temperature know was stuck on too hot to bear. Thesmoke smell persisted until the early hours of the morning and we could only presume it was connected to the open fire directly beneath the room. .The next morning we went to reception and asked to change rooms. There was no apology just an ok and no note made of the reasons.The new room did not smell of smoke so was an improvement apart from a kettle so clogged with limescale that we could not use it, a drawer handle hanging off and a tv remote which did not work. When we then went for breakfast we were told there were no breakfast chefs that day so we had to walk to the Crown. The breakfast and service were good. The next day presuming that the lack of chefs was a one off we went to dining room to be told we had to walk to the Crown in the rain. We saved up for this trip and the high price we paid deserved better than this.

The hotel was a base to enable my wife and I to travel to local attractions over two days. We have no complaints in respect of cleanliness and friendliness of staff. The car park is of a good size and was well managed when therefore two day functions, ensuring guests could park. The breakfast service and food was excellent, cooked fresh and served hot. Our only complaint was that we were on the ground floor and the guest above stomped round the room like a herd of elephants but the hotel cannot be blamed for thoughtless guests

Hotel is stunning to look at but you have to go outside to get anywhere. It’s very disjointed. The majority of rooms are at the back - literally in the car park. The hall carpet was badly stained. The room was clean and comfortable but very generic, no character. The noise in the morning of trolleys been rolled outside woke us up. Surprised the housekeeping staff just wore their own clothes. You have no idea whether they are genuine staff. Breakfast was served by one man in jeans and a patterned shirt - no badge. An umbrella in the room would be useful to keep you getting wet when going to breakfast.

We managed to park even when there was a wedding on both days in the hotel carbpark . But the hotel sends you to the car park at the Crown just a few minutes down the road .
There are more places to choose from in the Amersham area.
