A wonderful old style pub with rooms above. It's not five star - it is a local hostelry which offers simple accommodation at a very fair price. If you are looking for authenticity, you have found it here. The rooms are basic but comfortable and we slept well - even though we were above the main pub room (I sleep...

My family have been coming to The Angel for meals for 14 years, as we usually holiday here, as my husband's work place owns a cottage nearby. We have probably had everything on the menu and never been disappointed! (Same landlord in all that time.) Our favourite meal is "chicken curry half chips", with poppadoms & chutney!! Big portions and...

Stayed here for 1 night Saturday night and it really was a tale of two parts on arrival at approximately 14:30 we were greeted by friendly staff and after a brief stroll around the village decided to have a few beers surrounded by friendly locals plus several children watching the rugby match, with dinner starting at 6 we decided to...

We love this ancient traditional pub (we didn't stay the night - just went for lunch) - beautifully beamed throughout with brasses galore. Staff very friendly and kind to our elderly dog. As a vegetarian my expectation of imaginative pub grub is low but the Angel offered a superb homemade Jalfrezi and hubby had traditional fish and chips - keenly...

4 of us stayed overnight when walking the Pennine way...On arrival was greeted by friendly staff...great pub atmosphere..but as a bed and breakfast it is far from ideal..The bar was noisy until 1am..which I suppose it is a pub!...but ALL night long you could hear everytime someone used a tap or toilet in another room as the toilets were of...

There's two sides to this pub. As a locals boozer it's obviously a popular place and gets pretty busy. However as a b&b it's awful. The rooms are dirty, unhygienic and generally not fit for purpose. Plus they're directly over the bar so don't expect any peace until after midnight especially if there's a darts match on. It's a shame...

I took my sister and brother in law to visit my stepdaughter in Alston and as I like the Angel inn I took them there for a meal. This is a really nice inn dating back to 1611 and has a nice pleasant atmosphere. As I have a sweet tooth I love the sticky toffee pudding which I would class among one...

Ok. The good stuff. Breakfast was great. The price was reasonable. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The bed was reasonably comfortable. The bad stuff. The room we had was over the bar and noisy until midnight. The cobbled road outside was very loud when traffic went by. We didn't get much sleep. When we arrived it looked like...

Cosy pub, food was excellent. Can recommend the jacket potato with chilli lovely!! We also had the toasted sandwiches and the burger was a hit with my husband. Didn't try the sweets as were all too full but had some classics like sticky toffee pudding and the likes would definitely go again.
