We stayed for just one night for special dinner and then breakfast. This is an old building with parts dating back to the 14th century, the dining room and the study/lounge, although tfrom the outside it looks Victorian. It is run as a B&B, but dinner available on Fridays and Saturdays. The food at dinner was wonderful with nearly all...

Thank you so much for writing such a glowing review. We were very flattered to have been chosen by Cumbria Dining Club to host the occasion. When we first moved to Cumbria we were at a bit of a loss as to where to source good quality local ingredients. So Gill signed up for one of Annette Gibbon's Food Safaris...

This place is immaculate and in a delightful setting. Gill and David were warm, generous, informative and attentive hosts without being intrusive. We loved our room which was spacious and tastefully furnished and we felt pampered with lots of thoughtful extras. Our super sized bed was very comfortable. In the evening we enjoyed 2 beautifully presented platters with locally sourced...

Thank you so much for sharing your very complimentary thoughts on Trip advisor. It was a real pleasure to meet you both and we are delighted that you enjoyed your stay with us. Thanks also for alerting future guests to our current problems - it's so frustrating for us that guests think that we are fully booked when nothing could...

Having read the previous reviews, I was hoping that Boltongate Old Rectory would live up to my (very high) expectations, but I need not have worried. My sister is just about to go off travelling for a year and we wanted to spend some time together before she leaves. We wanted to be pampered in a beautiful location, and to...

Dear Helen It was a pleasure having you and your sister staying with us - we don't think that we've ever seen such competitive croquet played here before! Many thanks for your kind comments - we hope that your sister enjoys her travels and perhaps you may like to meet up here again on her return to catch up on...

This place was perfect in every way. A gorgeous house & gardens, with stunning views. The house is immaculately appointed & the smiling welcome is open, friendly but not at all intrusive. The food & wine is, quite simply, exquisite & very good value for money. This was a truly lovely experience.... & we travel a lot! Tucked away from...

Dear Ann and Barry When we read your comments in our visitors book after you left we were both absolutely delighted - you just seemed to 'get' what we are about and left such a lovely comment. The fact that you have also taken the time to write such fabulous reviews on both Trip Advisor and Alistair Sawday's 'Special Places...

I don't really want to share this review, but this is a fabulous find hidden away in the Northern Lake district, ideal for a cosy weekend in pure luxury. The host and hostess, Gill and David, do their utmost to ensure your stay is perfect in every way. Afternoon tea and homemade delights are offered on arrival and even a...

Dear Andrew Thank you so much for writing such a positive review and for posting some amazing photos - despite our family of red squirrels being regular visitors we never seem to have our camera to hand at the right moment. (Also confess that when we play croquet we have never left the mallets looking quite so arty!! ) We...

This was our third stay, and we treated ourselves to 3 nights this time instead of 1. We were treated to a stay of absolute luxury. Nothing was too much trouble for GIll and David - a morning tea tray outside the door, everything spotlessly clean and beautiful, cups of tea and homemade cakes and cookies - and breakfast by...

We visted Boltongate Old Rectory with two friends in early April 2014. We all rated it 'top notch'! The welcome, the anbience, the comfort and Gill's cordon blue cooking, left nothing to be desired. And the Northern Lakes of Cumberland are also beautiful.

David and Gill are just the most lovely people sharing the joy of their beautiful home. The welcome is heartfelt and the food is amazing, but it's the attention to detail that does it for us.
