Our room looked newly refurbished. Very modern. Beautiful situated hotel. We had a lovely pleasant walk around Borrowdale Gates . On return a cream tea in the conservatory was delicious. We had a 3 course meal in the evening which was brilliant lots of selection. We will be returning this year.

NB this is only a review of food, we did not stay at this hotel. My husband and I visited here with our dogs and, despite my husband having been told that dogs were allowed in the conservatory, the manager in the bar area told us that we could only dine in the bar area. As there are limited places...

Thank you for your review and I am so sorry that your experience was disappointing. We do allow dogs with diners in the conservatory for breakfast only, at other times diners can use the lounges, bar and map room. I'm afraid I do not have a bar manager and I am at present unsure who you spoke with but I...

We have stayed at the Borrowdale on many occasions and have never been disappointed. The hotel is comfortable, welcoming and spotlessly clean. Your dog is welcomed even in the prestige rooms, which are just perfect, we love room 12 with the bay window overlooking the head of Derwent water. The restaurant serves spectacular food and wine, you definitely do not need...

This was our 3rd visit to the Borrowdale and the 2nd time we took our dogs with us. The hotel is spotless, the standard of food is exceptional and the rooms at the front have a fantastic view over Derwent water. Unfortunately, this time our room was very small and would have been fine for a single person. It was...

Thank you for taking the time to review. Sorry that the room allocated was smaller than previous and I hope on a future visit, if you are bringing the dogs we can get something larger for you when booking. Best wishes, Jim

Stayed recently for 2 nights, whilst visiting Keswick and taking on some fell walking. I was pleasantly surprised of how much we enjoyed our stop over, situated at the end of the River Derwent the hotel commands a great place for walking, lovely garden for afternoon teas and sitting out on mild evenings. The rooms and bathrooms and all of...

I used to walk past the Borrowdale Hotel on the way from Grange to Shepherds Crag. I always wondered what it would be like to stay there, where all the lovely cars were parked... This was in the early 1980s. Borrowdale is the beautiful heart of the English Lake District. The valley is one of the most distinctive places in...

What an amazing place! We are with a group that is hiking each day & this is our first hotel on our trip. The service is outstanding- everyone is professional and friendly. The food was quite tasty as well. The grounds around the hotel were very lovely. I would definitely recommend this place & come back again.

Had a weekend in Keswick staying at The Borrowdale Hotel. This is a wonderful hotel with a lovely ambience and so dog friendly. The restaurant is first class with a very impressive wine cellar and excellent service. The rooms are extremely comfortable and well maintained. We will definitely be returning to this hotel.

Fantastic 3 course sunday lunch. The food was really good; tasty, generous portions, plenty of choice and excellent value. 3 courses followed by cheese, biscuits, coffee and tea for £23 felt excellent value given the setting and quality of the food on offer. The venue itself is beautiful. Outside the garden was in full bloom and begged for photos to...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Nestled at the foot of Shepherd's Crag in the beautiful valley of Borrowdale, this completely refurbished 4 Star hotel has a totally unique atmosphere enveloping the visitors from the moment they arrive. Warm and welcoming fires in the Winter and cool drinks and Lakeland cream teas on the lawns in the Summer served with a smile. Built in 1866, the Borrowdale Hotel has an interesting history with the original 41 room bells, which, although no longer working, are still proudly displayed outside the reception area. The restaurant has been refurbished to a very high standard and is very elegant and comfortable. It also now boasts a superb walk-in wine cellar stocked with some very interesting bottles. During the day the lounge bar and conservatory are open for light lunches and afternoon teas and in the evening a splendid 5 course silver service dinner can be enjoyed in the restaurant with coffee and mints served in the lounges. The 40 cosy bedrooms have all been refurbished within the last 3 years all have TV, telephone and hospitality tray. There are also 2 extra large, easy-access rooms too. If you are arriving or leaving on a Sunday make sure not to miss the famous Sunday lunch - it is well worth trying, but remember to book your table well in advance, as it is particular popular with both locals and residents. For those looking for dog friendly hotels, all of our bedrooms are dog friendly and are available for well behaved dogs. Please contact reservations for information about our dog friendly accommodation. ... more   less
