We had three nights at The Borrowdale during the recent floods. The hotel itself was not affected but the surrounding area was certainly suffering. Because of the conditions there were few people about generally and this also applied to those staying at the hotel. We have had the pleasure of stopping at The Borrowdale many times over the years and...

This is my favourite place in the lakes for a nice meal and a drink. The food is excellent, the service prompt and staff always friendly. The ambience at Christmas time is lovely, with plenty of festive character and fires going. Highly recommend this hotel to stay at, have a nice drink or for dinner. Although I haven't had afternoon...

We stayed for one night in a prestige room on DBB basis. From the picturesque location through efficient staff to a delicious dinner, our stay was excellent. It felt like arriving into a hotel from a Christmas fairytale and I was totally in awe of the way the hotel had been adorned for the festive season. The room was tastefully...

At the age of Eleven I initially visited the Borrowdale Hotel by accident as a school boy on a school trip from London sheltering from the rain, so wet in fact that the Hotel manager at that time ushered us all in to the lobby to warm up and dry ourselves. The staff then took our coats and boots and...

We have stayed at this hotel for the last 4 years and thoroughly enjoy our visit overall. We always book the prestigious rooms 8 & 12 as these are in our opinion the best 2 rooms for size, layout and view. Cath the restaurant manager caters for all your needs and ensures everything is as it should be. The food...

Myself and the 8 month pregnant girlfriend stayed here a week ago for one night as part of a Secret Escapes deal for our 'Babymoon' where we got one nights accommodation, a 3 course dinner and a full breakfast in the morning. As it was secret escapes we were placed in the room which the hotel is keen to sell...

This lovely hotel is ideally located for a picturesque stay in the lake district. The views were stunning, the lake walks were fantastic and the laDore falls are just down the road at their sister hotel and they really are a natural beauty spot. So tranquil and relaxing!! Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Nestled at the foot of Shepherd's Crag in the beautiful valley of Borrowdale, this completely refurbished 4 Star hotel has a totally unique atmosphere enveloping the visitors from the moment they arrive. Warm and welcoming fires in the Winter and cool drinks and Lakeland cream teas on the lawns in the Summer served with a smile. Built in 1866, the Borrowdale Hotel has an interesting history with the original 41 room bells, which, although no longer working, are still proudly displayed outside the reception area. The restaurant has been refurbished to a very high standard and is very elegant and comfortable. It also now boasts a superb walk-in wine cellar stocked with some very interesting bottles. During the day the lounge bar and conservatory are open for light lunches and afternoon teas and in the evening a splendid 5 course silver service dinner can be enjoyed in the restaurant with coffee and mints served in the lounges. The 40 cosy bedrooms have all been refurbished within the last 3 years all have TV, telephone and hospitality tray. There are also 2 extra large, easy-access rooms too. If you are arriving or leaving on a Sunday make sure not to miss the famous Sunday lunch - it is well worth trying, but remember to book your table well in advance, as it is particular popular with both locals and residents. For those looking for dog friendly hotels, all of our bedrooms are dog friendly and are available for well behaved dogs. Please contact reservations for information about our dog friendly accommodation. ... more   less
