Borrowdale, where this hostel is located, is an extraordinarily beautiful valley, making this a great place to stay. (N.B. smartphone addicts may face deprivation due to the lack of mobile phone reception there - that's a positive though, as far as I'm concerned!) The hostel itself is excellent value, breakfast was good and the staff were really helpful in securing...

I had pre-booked in for 2 nights incl breakfast. On arrival all seemed to be ok and having been out walking most of the day I'd love a hot shower. This was the first bad experience! The showers; of which I tried a couple, were cold and very weak so I couldn't have one. There was only 1 power point...

Thank you for taking the time to write us a review and inform us of the issues you had with our hostel. We are always keen to hear from our guests, both positively and negatively. We apologise that on this occasion we did not meet your expectations and you felt it necessary to forfeit your stay due to your experience...

The guest WiFi simply does not work, whilst the staff do have internet access required to run their booking system. Chris, the managers excuse in a reply to a previous post, where he cited poor broadband infrastructure being the reason the guest WiFi doesn't work, simply is not true. On previous visits, the WiFi worked fine via GlobalGossip, but has...

I had a private two bed room for a couple of nights just for a quiet study getaway. Wasn't sure what to expect but was very pleasantly surprised. It's been a long time since I last went Youth Hostelling and was worried I would be surrounded by noisy groups or much younger people! There was a really diverse bunch of...

Stayed here over the weekend, we are a group of 4 lads that wanted to climb Scafell pike and this looked like the perfect place, it was. We climbed Scafell pike on Saturday afternoon and then checked into the hostel at 4pm, we were shown the bus timetable which came in handy as we were able to quickly have a...

Scafell Pike followed by all the pubs in Keswick... sounds like one almighty weekend! We are really pleased you all enjoyed your stay at YHA Borrowdale and hope we can tempt you to come back again some day for another crack at Scafell Pike. Failing that if you fancy trying something else we'd recommend Great Gable or perhaps Glaramara, both...

Everything else about this hostel is exemplary but, the Wi Fi always was dodgy. Now, they have a new system which doesn't work for "Apple" products! Get it fixed please. I'm not the only one who sits in the peaceful lounge at night time wondering about emails. The food is good, the bar is great, the accommodation is spot on,...

Thanks for taking time to write a review of your stay at YHA Borrowdale, we are really pleased you were impressed enough to award us five stars despite your experience with the wifi. Our location at the head of Borrowdale surrounded by ancient woodland and high fells is what makes this place so special. Sadly though one of the downsides...

We stayed here in a pod, a tent like chalet. The it was very comfortable and clean. The staff are very friendly, and the hostel is in a scenic location. There are many walks accessible without driving. The Royal Oak Hotel bar is ten minutes walk, although the hostel had its own bar and restaurant.

Lovely setting. Great staff. Friendly bar. Stayed in a pod for 3 night which was great - warm and cosy even in sub zero temperature. Clean facilities. Good breakfast. Could go on forever - just see for yourself.

Thanks for an amazing review :) We are chuffed to bits that you were so impressed with the pod and the hostel facilities. If you liked it this time of year when it can get pretty cold on an evening then you should try coming back when the valley warms up, there is nothing quite like sitting out on the...

Wonderful facilities, lovely staff and all in a fantastic setting. Nigh on perfect - there's even a pretty stream out front for additional charm. While we were there we even had the benefit of a very friendly dog to play with every morning. Just don't tell anyone.

Thank you for your review, I personally love a cup of coffee in the morning by the river, it is a lovely spot. The dog you're referring to maybe our resident canine, Paddy, if you throw his ball he will be your best friend for life.

My friend and I stayed Wednesday night, we had a fantastic time, all the staff were friendly and knowledgeable, everything was warm cosy and clean, and all the other guests were polite friendly and quiet at night! Thank you very much. We couldn't possibly have you driving home in your pants now, but yes we always try to go above and beyond to keep our guests happy. And having lovely guests make life so much more enjoyable for our staff too. Don't worry at all, there is no prerequisite for guests to strip their beds but it...
