One of a number of return visits to Forest How, which speaks for itself. It was great to see Deb and the dogs again in the lovely surroundings of Eskdale. The red squirrels are an added bonus, visiting during breakfast.

Found the place was just as advertised - warm and welcoming after a cold winter walk. Also dog-friendly, lovely breakfast looking at the wildlife in the conservatory. Great location with a nice pub as well. Thanks Debs!

We stayed for 2 nights having promised our daughter a visit following a previous one that we enjoyed so much. We were not disappointed. The location is stunning surrounded by open fell views and easy access to local walks and facilities-a village shop and excellent pub for meals. The rooms were clean and welcoming and home made biscuits a real...

Two nights spent at Forest How has the same effect a week's holiday anywhere else. You feel rested the moment you arrive at this beautiful guest house. A warm welcome awaits and the morning brings a wonderful breakfast which is taken while watching the most amazing wildlife; red squirrels, yellowhammers, pheasants, coal tits, blue tits, robins and numerous other birds...

Back again for the second time this year. This time we went without the dogs but really missed them. Luckily we got cuddles from the resident labs after breakfast :) The place has been done up a little since the last time we stayed and is looking wonderful with a great new conservatory. Deb was very helpful when looking for...

The guest house is comfortable and very peaceful. The gardens are visited by red squirrels as well as many birds which feed close to the dining room windows. It is situated next to the Irton Road Station, on the Ravenglass to Eskdale miniature railway.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Situated at the foot of Muncaster Fell amidst five and a half acres of natural fellside and gardens, Forest How enjoys spectacular views across the Eskdale valley. Set at the end of a quiet lane that crosses the famous Ravenglass and Eskdale Railway, you can leave the car and walk straight from the house or take the steam train up the valley to Boot or down to the coast at Ravenglass. For the outdoor enthusiast, the area is a haven for walkers, cyclists and nature lovers. If you head out for the hills and are unfortunate enough to get caught in a shower, we have a spacious drying room so that all your gear will be dry and ready for the next day’s adventures. We also have secure cycle storage. Frequent visitors to the gardens and surrounding fields include roe deer and red squirrels and you may spot a barn owl at dusk, circling the field for food. ... more   less
