Other reviewers have correctly described the overall hotel - great location just a few steps from the estuary and within five minutes walk of the main railway and Ravenglass and Eskale live. The restaurant does a good and varied breakfast and the evening menu is sound and well-presented. An ideal location to explore Eskdale and Wast Water.

My husband discovered the Pennington when he borrowed a newspaper whilst in hospital recently. We treated ourselves to a long weekend and added dinner for two for £45 special offer . We stayed in room 20 which is in the coach house across the courtyard from the main hotel. A massive double with a huge bathroom . The only downside...

Booked this hotel on the back of some good reviews and the location. I have to say we were quite disappointed with a number of things. We were given room 4, which quite frankly should be a storage cupboard. The bed is a 3/4 double at best, the room is so hot you need to wash in cold water, the...

Ravenglass is a gem and the hotel is excellently placed. Hotel is modern inside and traditional on the outside.l Food is imaginative and well presented. Staff are very friendly and helpful. Thoroughly enjoyed my three night stay with an early morning and late evening stroll down the street to the water. Do try the Langtons gin made in Skiddaw -...

We went to Ravenglass as we had been bought an Eskdale steam experience. I've got to say the train experience was not our cup of tea but what a pleasant surprise finding such a wonderful hotel. We stayed for 1 night on Sunday 11th May in room 7 which was a good size with an extra large comfortable bed and...

Stayed here on Saturday 10th May 2014, what a lovely find by other half! Sea view from our room. Room absolutely lovely, clean, comfortable, every thing you could want. The restaurant was very busy when we arrived. We just had the sharing platter, which was very tasty along with some nice wine! Service was excellent & the breakfast in the...

I last stayed here in the 70s when it was very much on the way down. Then followed a period where it was derelict and I've looked forward to a return for a while. We weren't let down, it's really friendly, well furnished and comfortable. The food is good and the menu flexible to cope with allergies. It's always good...

The Pennington Hotel is well located, clean, tastefully refurbished, the staff were friendly and helpful, and the food was lovely. We spent a few days cycling and hill walking, mainly in the Wast Valley. I dont recommend the daft trip we did - cycling up to Wast water head, then pushing bikes up and over the coffin road, then down...

Following a lovely meal at the hotel a few days ago we went again. We were not disappointed with the food this second time. I had the smoked duck as a starter and the lamb as a main course both really good. My wife had the fish of the day, Brill, and she stated it was cooked well and was...

Don't be deceived by the outside of the hotel! This hotel and restaurant is definitely punching above it's weight! Staff are friendly, welcoming and the rooms are comfortable. The food & service in The Estuary restaurant is very very good, and I couldn't really fault it. The only let down was the thickness of the walls between rooms 6 &...
