I think we were just unlucky with our stay, we were visiting the area for a family funeral so the general theme of the couple of days wasn't good to be fair. Room, although spacious and clean was quite dark and depressing and noisy. Our evening meal was excellent and loads of it, sadly we couldn't manage a dessert. I'm... More

Friendly atmosphere, good food, nice bar and beer, quiet country location. Very enjoyable relaxing stay. Good base to explore Cumbria coast and Carlisle and Lakeland. Good stop off if travelling between England and Scotland.

Stayed here for nearly a week whilst working on a job here. Accomodation is good, yes maybe slightly old and some parts well worn, but i think that added to the experience! Staff were very helpful and friendly and we were always greeted with a cheery welcome at breakfast. Have no hesitation recommending this hotel as a great base to... More

We were a group of 11 cyclists who had our rooms booked for almost a year! We had rang and checked several times since then and paid £300 deposit. When we arrived three of our rooms were gone and we were all forced to share 3 rooms. There was NO explanation. There was tipex all over the guest book and... More

We made arrangements for a meal for a family celebration. Before, during and after the meal the staff were all very friendly and helpful. The atmosphere is relaxed and informal, fitting of a family run hotel and restaurant. The bar has a big TV for people interested in the Olympics and the Sunday carvery lunch is served in the large... We stayed here just over a week ago for 3 nights, and whilst the location, staff and food are great. The accommodation is not!!!!! The carpets in the public areas and hotel walkways and stairs, are past there best to say the least, they look dirty and very old. We had a double room that would have been better described... More

The owners of the hotel are very friendly and go out of their way to help weary cyclists. We forgot our jackets and rung them to see if they could post them on, instead they drove 15 miles straight away to give them to us. So kind and good of them. Rooms were clean and good shower. Evening food very... More

Believe me, there's nothing around here except a few farmhouses and this wonderful hotel. The roads are empty and there are no cars because no one lives here. It is extraordinary to find a hotel which has more bedrooms than people on the Electoral Role. Yet it thrives. I was warmly welcomed by the owner and was shown to my... More
