The Old Ginn House Inn is an excellent choice for travellers visiting the Western Lake District and Solway Coast. It has been converted from a 17c farmstead into a charming village Inn, with an appealing courtyard and patio area with ample free parking. The Inn is conveniently located for Cockermouth, Workington, Whitehaven, the Lake District UNESCO World Heritage Site and the Solway Coast. It is also convenient for those visiting the area on business. The restaurant offers a hearty Cumbrian grill breakfast (plus many other breakfast choices), and an extensive menu for lunch and evening meals. The Bar is the Ginn Room after which the Inn has been named. This unique rounded room where, in bygone times, horses walked around turning the grindstone to crush the crops, known as ‘ginning’, offers a good selection of soft drinks, wines, spirits including a variety of local gins, and local Cumbrian Craft Ales. So glad we found the old ginn house. Parking was no problem, reception was pleasant & efficient. The room was very nice & modern with a large walk in shower with shampoo, shower gel, nice towels & plenty hot water. Bed was large & very comfortable. In room was large tv & tea/coffee making facilities. Breakfast was excellent with full Cumbrian breakfast or virtually anything you want. Evening meals are very good & large but make sure to book as it gets full. All the staff are wonderful & try their best to make sure you have a good stay at their hotel. We would highly recommend this hotel & would return without hesitation.

Stayed 2 nights here and really enjoyed it. Friendly staff, comfortable room, great choice for breakfast. Had a few drinks in the bar and one dinner in the restaurant, delicious food and great value. Good location for visiting the coast and the west lakes.

Food was decent to be honest, and was greeted by a smiley (Jodie i believe), typical workington accent but very polite none the less, portion sizes were generous, very likely to recommend to family and friends

The staff were nice, beds comfy and food OK. A two night stay was planned, arrived on the Friday and shower only produced boiling hot water a real risk of burn/scolding possibly a thermostat issue. We reported the matter around 9am the follwing morning(Saturday). Arriving back around 5:30pm after walking Scaffel Pike which is beautiful, was looking forward to a shower. Not fixed only scolding hot water. Went to reception who at first said they were not aware, then said it was rm 6( we were rm 4) then a female staff member came to the room to confirm only scolding hot water. I had to ask( rather than be offered) the use of another shower. We were offered rm 21, which meant a walk across the car park carrying new clothes and shower items for two people. Checking out on the Sunday(14th) unable to use shower, i was asked how was your stay(after staff member reviewed rm 4 on computer) i had to explain issues with shower again and sadly my stay was disappointing. While the staff were nice, they did not manage this issue very well. The beds are comfortable and the food was nice too.…

We appreciate all feedback from guests and we are pleased that you found our staff and meals to be nice. There was miscommunication between our staff of which we have apologised for and have spoken to them with regards to this. Unfortunately, you did have to walk across the courtyard as there was no other rooms available in that block or any twin rooms available to move you to. We were unable to get a plumber over the weekend but a plumber has now been and the shower needed replaced of which has been done.

Been here a few times and still a lovely small inn/hotel. Nice bedrooms with tea tray and hairdryer. Comfy bed. Spotlessly clean. Food in the restaurant very nice. Good breakfast Good choice on the menu. The only complaint we have is that is spoilt by 2 to 3 of staff who serve you. The gentleman behind the bar was a smashing man very friendly and one or 2 of the breakfast girls also friendly and great service. The evening girls not so much so. Did not spoil the holiday though and would go back again.

Our recent stay at the old Ginn house was excellent . Our room was lovely ,very comfortable all the amenities you could need . The room cleaning service was excellent too. The food in the resteraunt was lovely , the eggs Benedict for breakfast the best I have ever had well done chef . All the staff were very kind and attentive , nothing was too much trouble even when very busy . Ample parking available .We will definitely recommend to family and friends and will stay here again 😃👍.

We first stayed at the Old Ginn House back in April 1992 (we honeymooned in Workington - yes, we did) when it was the Clifton Hotel. We've been back a good number of times since then and our latest visit confirmed to us why it's our hotel of choice in West Cumbria. The rooms are spacious and clean, the bed is comfortable and the food is first class - you'll need to go a long way to find a better mixed grill. Every member of staff we encountered made us feel welcome and nothing was too much trouble for them. It's a lovely place and clearly well liked by both locals (the bar and restaurant were busy) and visitors (nearly all of the rooms were booked up) alike. It's the ideal place to stay if you're visiting the North Lakes or the Solway Coast.

I was travelling on my own for business and booked a table in the restaurant for food. After being seated at my table for 20 minutes and nobody coming to take an order, I had to go to the bar myself to get a drink. About 10 minutes later someone took my order but they weren’t the friendliest. ( and then someone came back 10 minutes later to say they were out of what I ordered) I don’t even think they realised that I had to get my own drinks order. Maybe they don’t value visitors as they don’t think they would get repeat business (or perhaps it was my foreign accent!) But this is the second time I’ve stayed here ( I thought I would give them a try again) and I had a similar experience in the restaurant last time. So I recommend eating somewhere else, unless you are a local. Rooms are great, clean and good value for money.…

We appreciate all feedback from guests and are delighted that you found the Old Ginn House Inn to be great value for money with clean rooms. We do offer table service and we can only apologise if your drinks order was missed but guests can go to the bar themselves for a drink. As you seen that evening we were very busy and we were a member of staff short. Our restaurant was fully booked and guests were arriving that had not booked the restaurant before they arrived, including yourself. This means that we have to try and find space to book tables for residents. Which unfortunately means that there can be a longer wait in the restaurant. We send a confirmation that states that booking in the restaurant is essential prior to arrival but unfortunately not everyone does this and it can make it hard to fit everyone in. We value all our customers and residents the same as we like everyone to come back and dine at the Old Ginn House Inn.
