I found this to be a really clean, modern, well appointed room. It’s better than a lot of big chain hotels I have stayed in. I had a ground floor room and the window looked out to the car park but had frosted glass so that I could still enjoy real light which I thought was good. I didn’t experience any noise at all. Nothing from the corridor (and I think there was a wedding on in main hotel so I was braced) and nothing from the street (it was Good Friday so I was braved for that as well). Parking is a bit of a faff but it’s a city centre hotel. I strongly suggest calling reception before you check in - the hotel seems to have a lot of parking dotted about and they’ll be able to tell you where to go. I think they try to downplay it to avoid disappointment but worth a call- they staff are lovely. This isn’t in the main building of the hotel, it’s about a 2 minute walk (if that). You get exactly the same level of service so I suppose it just depends if you’re bothered about walking past a reception desk and paying extra for that. I absolutely wasn’t. I would definitely stay here again.

The rooms we had were good, basic rooms, although over priced for what they are. The accessible room had three large single beds in it which did make it impossible to get the chair into the main open space by the bathroom. However the main downside is that the walls are not sound proofed. As a result the exuberant drunken voice of our neighbour until mid, with load clattering of toilet and TV on until 2pm, were all clearly audible. In addition there is a constant background noise. It sounded like the heating system or the boiler. With the added hassle of all the main facilities being down the high street and no parking available the score of three might seem generous but comfy beds, clean rooms, good breakfast and pleasant staff deserve their recognition. However I wont be staying here again.

Hi jeremydQ3770CA, I'm glad that you liked our rooms, I have checked with our receptionist to find out if you had asked for any help during your stay, as we would have been more than happy to assist you with your needs. I have looked into the heating system noise. we have parking available on both sites, so I'm unsure regarding your difficulties with this. We do pride ourselves on our hospitality. If you were ever in the area again please contact the hotel directly at: info@washingtoncentralhotel.co.uk and we would be delighted to rectify any issues you have had previously. Kind Regards

I regularly stay here when I come and visit family in Workington. It really is just rooms, there are no staff or hotel facilities on site as you have to walk to the nearby Washington Central Hotel for those, around 100ms away. Never quite understood why it's titled as an 'inn', when it clearly isn't. For years, I've been saying it needs a refurb, so imagine my delight when I arrived to find a refreshed room, complete with new carpet and bedding! There were still decorators in the building and lots of beds filling the central part of the Sleepwell, which I assume were for the tip, so very promising. I slept like a baby while there. Clearly, new mattresses and pillows were now being used too, and you could tell the quality was much improved. I'm almost sure it was goose feather duvets and pillows, and I really didn't want to get out of bed in the morning! I don't think my room was completely finished, as they still had the old lamps in there that had been there for years, but I was reassured that these would be replaced as there were a number of them outside next to the beds waiting to be thrown away. The bathroom had some issues with mould in the grouting, but was very clean otherwise, as this hotel usually is. I'm sure I'll be giving it 5 stars once the refurb is fully complete. Can be a bit noisy at night on the weekends, but staff do try and put people at the back of the Sleepwell in order to avoid this. Overall, very happy with the progress of the refurb so far, I'll be looking forward to my return!

The room had a large, comfortable bed and was clean and fresh. However the extremely small window and lack of air conditioning made it very hot, and it was noisy as there is a nightclub next door. There are no services at the hotel, you even have to walk 100 metres and cross a busy junction to check in at the sister hotel.

Dear Paulbakerfamily, Thankyou for your email and so sorry you did not enjoy your stay. Rooms normally have fans in them, if you did not have one, please accept our apologies. In future, please let us know immediately if you need a fan and we can bring one to you. With regards to the noise from the bars across the street, we endeavour to allocate rooms for guests as far away as possible from the front of the Hotel, but on occasion this is not always possible if occupancy levels are high. Once again my sincere apologies. Kind Regards

Stayed here in between lock downs. There is a new car park opposite which was handy and I had a good meal over at the Washington Central Hotel where you book in. Room was clean and quiet - I was around the back.

I stayted at the WCH, in the annex about 25 metres from the main hotel, and would not choose to do so again. On arrival everything seemed fine, other than they only had me booked in for one night when it was two. I went to my room. The room was a very odd triangular shape requiring me to move awkwardly around the furniture to get to and from the bed. Other than that, the room was fine. I arrived back at the hotel on the second evening and my key did not work; I could not get through the outside door. I went back across the road to reception to get this sorted out and my key was re-programmed; I got through the outside door but not into my room. I went back, came back to my room, it didn't work. I went back a third time and the receptionist seemed more interested in finding a hairbrush for her daughter's wet hair and sorting out another item for her other daughter than sorting out my room key. Eventually she came with me to the room, changed the batteries in the door lock and, my key didn't work. She gave me another programmed key and that did work. Whilst I was talking on the phone in my room the maintenance person just opened the door to come in. He did not knock or establish if there was someone in there. Having realised I was in the room he then closed the door and then reopened it to apologise.

Without doubt the handling of your malfunctioning door lock/key card should have been dealt with in a more pro-active and professional manner. I am sorry and apologise for actions of my staff members who did not provide you with the service that you would expect in resolving the issue in a prompt and satisfactory manner. Nicely located in the centre of workington approx 1 mile from official start point for C2C. Part of a larger hotel chain directly opposite so no on site reception however this was not a problem. 2 rooms booked, single and a double both very well equiped and clean and rooms a good size (double my wife and I booked was actually a triple) The bathroom has shampoo, bodywash and handwash in press dispensers. (It does take ages for these to be dispensedas thereis little movement allowed within the fixed securing device which hold them to the walls. The restaurant and bar is facilitated in the sister hotel directly opposite, breakfast is not included in the room booking price, we did not require breakfast on this occassion however for £10pp it seems good value to me. Staff were very polite and courteous. The only down side to our stay was the external noise. We were room 60 (ground floor corner) we could hear all passers-by conversations and all traffic noise so didnt get the best sleep whereas our son on the other hand on the first floor got a good sleep.

Good afternoon Steve, Thank you very much for your comments following your recent stay at The Sleepwell Inn. We are obviously sorry that you did not get a ideal nights sleep due to the street noise. We do however endeavour, wherever possible to allocate rooms when available away from the front street, please ask on your next visit. We are grateful for your positive comments on the facility, cleanliness and the staff. We hope that we can one day welcome you back to the Sleepwell Inn or Washington Central Hotel for a truly positive experience. Kindest regards, Keith

Was pleasantly surprised when I got to the single room. Looked recently refurbished and seemed perfectly fine. Bed is very high from the floor. Bathroom lovely. Had a shower though, and was only when getting out of the shower, found that the towel had obviously been covered in black oil before, been washed, and then placed in my room, with big black oil stains over it. The bath mat also had some kind of mark on it. I walked across the road to the Washington and was given spare towels and the receptionist said she would pop over and collect the old ones. She never did. Bulb didn't work in the desk light but thankfully the other lamp by the bed did. Generally, although the room was very clean, one would expect more from housekeeping not to notice heavily stained towels and a bulb broken. Walls are really thin - could hear a couple chatting (and other things) next door. Cheekiest thing is the 3% credit card fee when leaving. Wasn't warned about it at all until I received the invoice and was out of the hotel. I've NEVER been to a hotel that charges a credit card fee, and I've stayed in many. Though a little warning prior to payment would have been handy too. I don't want to sound too critical, as the room itself was spotless and the receptionist very smiley. I could have just about coped with the dirty towels, but the credit card fee really was taking the mickey. I'd probably stay there again, but just check the towels and bulbs when I get there and ensure I pay on debit card next time!! Oh and don't plan on any bedtime cuddles with the partner, unless you don't mind the guests next door having a giggle!

Good afternoon Paul, A review expressing both negative and positive aspects of your recent stay, shows that you have taken time to consider a balanced assessment. I am sorry for the codition of the bathroom linen, and the spent bulb...these should not have been overlooked, although it is pleasing that you found the levels of houskeeping generally to be 'spotless' . Due to bank charges it is unfortunate that we now levy a 3% surcharge on credit cards, however debit cards incur no charge at all, a note for your next visit. Many thanks for your review. Keith.

The Sleepwell Inn is the sister hotel of the Washington Central Hotel. This is a smaller hotel and was room omly. This hotel however was extremely clean and room sizes were larger than normal. The interior of the hotel is impressive and worth viewing. Wouldn't recommend for families due to no breakfast being available. There is no service at this hotel and keys must be collected from the Washington Central.

Decided to have a weekend in the lakes with my wife as she had never been after booking early we headed of on the 30th April 2016 we arrived in Workington went to book in and was directed across to a scruffy looking hotel building across the road by the lady on the reception on entering the building it did look slightly better we then went to the room the room was very small and dirty my wife said she would clean the bath as we had just driven 4 hours so didn't really want to look for another hotel as most places were fully booked after a hour of cleaning the bath and tiles we decided to freshen up to find somewhere to eat we came back a couple of hours later the room was very cold water pipes were banging and clanging all night so had no sleep all night got up and left on leaving we took the keys back across to the Washington hotel were we made a complaint but seemed to fall on deaf ears I am sorry to say but with years in hotel business I would not recommend this to anyone shame as hoping to spend more time in the area and hope to invest in the local community.

Good afternoon Mr and Mrs Dorans, Thank you for taking your valuable time to post a review on trip advisor. We value all reviews whether they are of a positive or negative nature, unfortunately on this occasion your review falls into the latter category. Your observations on the levels of housekeeping, do surprise myself and the housekeeping team, as we are often praised by other guests and the hotel inspectors for our consistently high levels of cleanliness. If on arrival, you felt that your bathroom was not entirely to your satisfaction, we would have responded immediately, had you reported this and brought it to our attention upon entering your guest room. Equally any issues with the plumbing could a have been reported to reception or the night manager, again giving us the opportunity to investigate and rectify. Should you be visiting Workington in the near future please call me personally, this may give us the opportunity to provide you with a more positive experience of our facilities. Kindest regards, Keith
