We had a wonderful stay. Warm welcome, beautiful views, we had our own hot tub, wonderful lodge and were offered fresh veg from the herb and veg garden.
Will definitely be coming back, the hosts are wonderful and very friendly.

stayed for 2 nights over the bank holiday,i think we got the last room, king size bed lovely views
over countryside ,sky tv ,free Wi-Fi even a dressing room.
Make no mistake no expense has been spared on the house from the marble floors to the sweeping curved staircase reminiscent of the film Gone with the wind.
First impressions as you enter the drive through the huge iron gates and see the huge stable block in front of the house is one of faded elegance, but that is not the case as George the owner admits it is just not finished yet, landscaping is next on the agenda.
George and Joan are lovely people who give a personal service if that's what you want, breakfast is cooked to order ,information on local restaurants is freely given.
When you consider the location remember Cockermouth and Keswick are not very far away
by car and for this level of accommodation in the lakes you would pay more than double the price.

This was high on our list of possible places to stay from some of the reviews and we were going to reserve on line but decided to take a drive to take a look. As we pulled into a grand horse head gated entrance we were met by nothing but grey. The site looked unfinished and not at all inviting there was no colour and in such a beautiful part of the world the buildings looked out of place. The building in front of the house was almost prison like and lacked care. Unfortunately we didn't get a great vibe and decided not to stay. First impressions are really important and there was nothing that made me feel welcome.

Thoroughly recommend the Cumberland Lodge. Stayed for 2 nights in the suite. Luxurious accommodation. George and Joan are great hosts. Like many other reviews state we hope to return at a later date, maybe for a few more nights.

Our good luck continues with another fantastic B&B experience. A last minute change in plans for our monthly trip to West Cumbria Photo Group presented the opportunity to stay at Cumberland Lodge. It looked too good to be true on the internet but was actually much better than the pictures showed. Whilst the accommodation was luxurious and the breakfast superb, the real joy was in the homely atmosphere created during our stay by the owners, Joan & George. We were made very welcome and put at ease from our first footstep into this amazing home and a welcoming cup of tea was on the table in the conservatory before we had our coats off. Our stay was very peaceful and quiet, just what we needed on this trip. This B&B is a children-free and pet-free zone. The facilities at Cumberland Lodge are second to none and are far superior to any other B&B's we have stayed at in the extended Workington area. There are great early morning views to the Lakeland hills as a bonus and close proximity to the West Coast towns. There are many restaurants close by for evening food, some within walking distance. Highly Recommended for luxury and price, friendly and homely.

I only stayed here the one night, but was made to feel at home by George and his wife from the off. This is by far the best B&B I have stayed in and when I return to Cumbria next year with my wife this is the place I will want us to stay. Luxury at an affordable price.

We have just spent a night at the Cumberland lodge b&b owned by George and Joan, this is no ordinary b&b this is there home that they have opened up which is simply stunning, I was called by George on the day of arrival to tell us the gate number and he would have a pot of tea waiting for us, on arrival are a huge pair of gates and a long drive to the house, first thoughts of the entrance then to the house where WOW and inside it is WOW it certainly didnt disappoint us, George and Joan were the perfect host's and showed us round and how everything worked, they made us feel at home. From our room we could probably see for at least 50 miles over the fells. The room was very clean and well presented and had everything in you could need and more, breakfast was amazing and very filling then we went for a walk around the horse paddocks, it wasn't like a b&b it was more like a resort. Just to add George and Joan asked us to go in and sit with them and have a drink with them, they even booked us a table at a local restaurant which we enjoyed. We would highly recommend this b&b to anyone and we surly will be going back very soon.
Thanks for having us at your home.
Nicki & Dave

George and his wife Joan manage this large country house as a guest house as well as being their family home. Immaculate, generously proportioned room, very nice breakfast cooked to perfection to order. If you're in the area, definitely worth a visit; a cut above the normal run-of the mill. If staying longer, it may be worth considering holiday lets being currently refurbished from the very grand stable-block to the front of the property (but secluded from view). best tip: follow satnav to postcode, but when it says turn right, turn left and you're in. It's a fairly rough track, but the house at the end of it is anything but.

Have just completed 3 day business trip to the area, had two of the most relaxing nights at George and Joan’s wonderful B&B. Luxury comparable with any 5 Star hotel in the UK. George and Joan offer superb hospitality and would probably be very successful if they run their own communication and leadership coaching business. Just a class act. Pub and restaurant within easy walking distance which both provide great quality food and beer. Superb.
