I booked a table for 4, don't know why, we were the only people dining in the main restaurant. However, the food was outstanding, wine excellent and service superb. Both menus presented to us for choices which suited everyone's taste. Smoked salmon fishcakes for starter, followed by Guinea fowl for me and grilled plaice for the rest of the party....

Only jumped into this place on route to where we were going for our evening meal. Just wished a drink on the way. A large glass of white wine and a double Gin with mixer just shy of £20. GULP !!!! The décor was really smart and fashionable though the bar area lacked atmosphere leaving the area feeling cold.

We stayed here last week for a 2 night champagne break in a superior room with breakfast and dinner on both days.On arrival at the hotel door we were greeted by a charming young man with a broad smile and warm greeting of welcome. That set the tone for the whole visit. The young lady at reception was very pleasant...

I have quite high standards for hotels and found The George exceeding my expectations for a three star accommodation. The room was nicely decorated, warm with a comfortable bed, nice toiletries and a generous breakfast. We took a couple nature walks from the hotel which was nice and it was near a few restaurants. We were going to eat at...

From the moment you walk through the doors, and see the old charm atmosphere, beams and fires, and an equally warm and professional welcome, you know you are in safe hands, and that your stay will be well worth it. I was not disappointed and the whole stay was a treat. I was only staying one night, on business, but...

One of the best hotels I've stayed in. The staff were very friendly and helpful nothing was too much trouble. The room was excellent, clean and spacious and the bar area was warm and inviting. The sandwich I ordered was very good. The breakfast was exceptional.

From the minute I checked in I could not fault this hotel. What a delight. The staff were very friendly and attentive. I had what can only be described as the best soup I have ever tasted for supper, mushroom and roast garlic. Whilst sitting in the lovely lounge bar area. My room was a single but no less attention...

We were well greeted and had out coats and hats stored for safekeeping. We were given a few olives and nuts whilst we waited for to meal. After seeing the menu 2 of our party were not happy and so we asked for the lounge menu. From this point we were second best to those in the restaurant. From ordering...

A most enjoyable week end away with friends, the hotel is in the heart of the peak district so is great for exploring around Hathersage, Castleton and Buxton. Although this hotel is over 500 years old our bedroom was spacious and newly updated with a modern bathroom. The owner is hands on and greeted us over breakfast and staff were very...
