Just back from our stay at "the Cottage", feeling fully relaxed and already missing the comfort of the roaring stove. We were very comfortable throughout our stay and found Melanie and David very welcoming. Tideswell is one of few villages left were you can still find a choice of grocery shops, pubs, tea rooms, take-aways and even a bank! Can't...

Booked Markeygate Barn for a short break during the kids half term. We are a family of 4 with two teenage kids. The kids stayed in the downstairs bedroom which was ideal since they had their own space away from us 'oldies!'. The Barn was spotless which given a few comments in other trip adviser comments I was concerned about....

On first glance the cottage was lovely and well furnished. Small but with enough space for a holiday. However it was not clean. Many items in the kitchen were dirty, in the corners the floor was covered in dog hairs and for some reason we had been left a stained bathroom towel to use and the toothbrush holder had not...

Thank you for your comments - feedback is always welcome and we usually get to speak to and meet guests since our house is located next to the Cottages. Firstly let me aplogise about the left towel which was my fault and I have spoken to the cleaner about your complaints which we are obviosuly disappointed about. We have hundreds...

I have just spent 6 nights with my two sons staying in the cottage which we found very comfortable. The owner, Melanie, was very helpful in answering questions I had before coming on holiday and very welcoming when we arrived. I felt we had all we needed there and it was good value for money. The cottage is central to...

Booked both the Cottage and Barn in December for a Family get together. Firstly we had a great welcome from the owner who spent time with us and give us the 'local knowledge' tips. The two cottages (one is called The Barn, the other Cottage- not the greatest of names!) are very different. The Barn is more recently refurbished and...

We recently stayed at Markeygate Cottage for 3 nights. It is clear that the owners refurbished the property to a high standard a few years ago, but it now feels as though they have become complacent and not maintained their own high standards. Two of us found the cottage to be adequate, but we feel that a family might find...

Thank you for your comments which we take on board. Since your review we have invested in new furniture and paid more attendtion to the details as you described. We are cuurently in the process of changing the lights and will have plans to invest in the kitchen shortly. Having traded for over 17 years at Markeygate Cottage I know...

I've just had a 3 day stay at Markeygate Barn with a friend and would not return. The building is beautiful, located in the middle of the village and very convenient with essential shopping nearby. The conversion in general is a nice one with a bedroom and bathroom on each of the 2 floors. The entry is into the kitchen...

Thank you for your comments which we will take on board. Firstly I totally agree that the Barn is beautiful with a fabulous location with instant access to the village and the facilities. In terms of the Barn being clean we will again work with our cleaners to improve matters. We personally inspect the Barn well before guests arrive and...

A lovely warm welcome from friendly owner, Melanie, who showed us to our home for the week - Markeygate Barn - a beautiful cottage tucked away in a peaceful court yard in the heart of Tideswell. We were very impressed with the cottage - tastefully furnished, spotlessly clean, warm and cosy – a restful retreat in the Heart of the...

The Markeygate Cottages are small but very nice. Too small for permanent living but great for few days holiday and couldn’t fault the decor, very tasteful and appropriate. The biggest general issue we had, especially during the summer months, is the “limited” outdoor space. There is an outdoor area, a small closed courtyard shared with the other rented out accommodation,...

Thank you for your feedback which we always welcome. The private courtyard is exclusively available for cottage guests and is not used at all by us the onwers since we have another private area away from the courtyard. Although the courtyard is shared by the other cottage the courtyard is large enough to have individual space to enjoy the tranquil...

A really relaxing weekend away for me and my family. Melanie and David and their children made us feel so welcome at their beautiful cottages. Everything you could possibly need whilst away, was at hand and if it wasn't (I'd forgotten to say I needed a cot) it was not a problem and sorted instantly! Markeygate cottage was beautifully furnished...
