Having visited the rose & crown, on several occasions over the years, we decided to return this January after a gap of 2 x years. This may sound boring but it was as good as ever. The food choice was slightly limited , if staying for more than one night but excellent . The beer & wine list was extensive & fantastic, especially the real ales. The room was spotless & the bed as comfortable as our own. We enjoyed our return so much, we’ve booked to return this coming February. Thanks to the friendly staff, for contributing to our lovely break

We had a two night break to explore the North Norfolk area and chose to stay at the Rose and Crown based on recommends from various sites. The pub itself is a typical old country pub with bags of character and popular with visitors and locals alike. On arrival, check-in was quick and efficient with very friendly and helpful staff. Our room was warm, fairly spacious and spotlessly clean. It had obviously been recently decorated as it was in very good order. The bed was extremely comfortable and the linen/towels were good quality. The "tea tray" was well stocked with fresh milk available in a fridge outside in the corridor. A couple of small things, there was nowhere to hang outdoor coats so a couple of coat hooks wouldn't have gone amiss. Also, there was nowhere in the bathroom to put toothbrushes, wash bags etc, so again a small shelf near the wash basin would have been useful. We ate in the pub for both nights and the food was very good indeed...and plenty of it! The only blip being the chicken breast meat in the Masala was very dry - but the sauce was delicious. Breakfast was again very good with plenty of choice. It's a shame on the Sunday morning we had to wait 40 minutes to get served which took the edge off the experience somewhat. Throughout our visit, all of the staff were superb - friendly, polite and nothing appeared to be too much trouble. Overall, a lovely place to stay and would recommend it as a place to stay and eat.

We were staying locally for 5 days over New Year. We had pre booked for lunch on New Years Eve and oh my it was delicious! Me and my husband shared the nachos for stater. For my main I had the dirty burger and my husband had fish. We enjoyed our lunch so much we booked for a second time during our stay. Again lovely food. The staff we encountered were all professional and friendly.

A very disappointing lunch with friends today, we waited over an hour for our roast dinner so I was pleased we all went for a prawn cocktail starter for a change so we ate something. We had already waited twice to be served drinks and order our food. So I asked our young waitress why the delay and she said it’s because of the staff party later. They wanted to get everyone served sooner but this had obviously caused them a problem, it was her first year working there and seemed unsure. Then people who had arrived after us were served their roast dinners so I asked again and we received our meals soon after. Definitely a staffing or organisational issue. I thought the prawn cocktails were of very poor quality for the price you charge, small, soggy tasteless prawns, large doorsteps of white bread and frozen miniature packs of butter. Most of my friends ate their roast beef but I couldn’t eat mine, it was very chewy and made me gag so I had to remove it and leave the rest. We had originally asked for beef ranging from rare to medium but when they arrived we were told they are all the same and because of the long wait we accepted them. We had tea, coffee and ice cream to finish but the whole meal took three hours. At £40 per head this was not a happy dining experience and it took far too long. I’m certain I wasn’t the only diner who felt this way judging by what I saw from other tables around me. On a positive note we have enjoyed meals here before and hope to come back but maybe I’ll check first to see if there is a staff party on that day.

Went on Friday and had a terrible meal. I've been to the R&C dozens of times and it is really disappointing when they get it so wrong. The Duck liver parfait was firstly visually off putting. A massive lump of "brown"on a small piece of toast and the taste was distinctly average. The dirty steak burger was tough and had a very unpleasant taste so I left half of it. Feels like they are just churning out meals without any love or care. In sharp contrast we went to the Duck in Stanhoe yesterday which was outstanding. Won't be going again in a hurry.
