Stayed just the one night in a queen room with shared bathroom. We were met on arrival with a lovely warm welcome from Katrina who showed us around the property and to our room. The room was spacious, spotlessly clean and had views over the tropical gardens. I was surprised to see robes and also a decent size fridge. We...

A beautiful old Queenslander nicely renovated to make your stay comfortable but not losing any of its charm. Rooms were large and very clean as were the other amenities and shared areas. A very nice cold breakfast was provided, freshly prepared fruit salad, cereal, etc. The owner Katrina is the perfect host, knowledgeable, helpful with a few tips on things...

This gorgeous Queenslander is nestled at the start of Cooktown's famous Grassy Hill and is a five-minute walk into town. Spotlessly clean, the large rooms are freshly painted and tastefully decorated and include all the mod cons - split system air-conditioning and flat-screen TV. The shared bathroom is very modern and again spotless and there's endless supplies of fresh towels...

We spent a couple of nights in Hillcrest Guest House - it was a very clean, comfortable room with a nice balcony and view of the garden. They have a nice small pool that was very welcome after a long hot day out and about. It's an easy drive along the main attractions. The staff at the hotel were very...

A lovely stay here. We were greeted by a nice young lady who checked us in. The room and facilities were perfect and we couldn't have asked for more. Unfortunately, the following morning an older lady 'k' was on reception and came out with a couple of uncomfortable and unsolicited comments that tainted things somewhat as she had a perfectly...

We stayed at the Hillcrest Guest House for 2 nights over the Christmas holiday. Katrina, the owner, has beautifully renovated the complex. We stayed in room #3, which had plenty of room for our family of 4, with a queen bed and a set of bunkbeds. The facility was sparkling clean and in excellent condition. Easy to walk to all...

Excellent location, wonderful staff and great rooms ... certainly an excellent combination. We stayed for 3 nights in one of the rooms with a shared bathroom and had no problems at all. The room was clean and comfy with excellent A/C so no problems sleeping at night. Pool and gardens were just the ticket to relax in the evening and...

Hillcrest on booking.com claims “Renovated in 2011, Hillcrest Guest House is housed in a classic Queenslander building built in the 1880s.” Most rooms have only shared bathroom facilities, so we booked a “Queen Suite” which has a private bathroom. Website states: “This suite has a private bathroom and a verandah. Also includes air conditioning, TV and a fridge.” Accordingly, we...

Katrina W, Manager at Hillcrest Guest House, responded to this review

Dear Mr Spring, Thank you for bringing your concerns to our attention. Firstly, regarding the Queen Suite being located separate to the main house. When, in person, you were questioned which websites you had looked at BEFORE you booked accommodation at the Hillcrest, you replied "Booking.com AND Tripadvisor". It is clearly stated on Tripadvisor (within the section of "Official Description...

I stayed for 2 nights in November 2016. I was met by the host Laura who provided excellent advice on things to see and explore locally, with recommendations of places to eat and drink. I think I ticked off all her suggestions and was very satisfied. Hillcrest Guest House is situated a 2 min walk from the main street with...
