Cooktown is a fascinating site of Australian history. Now small, it retains much of its character, has most interesting places in town and within driving range. The sovereign resort Hotel is continuous with one of the oldest hotels, albeit much restored/rebuilt after cyclones and fires. It is very comfortable, a great breakfast (best fruit salad ever!) and is central to...

We thought we had made a booking but a glitch on our behalf meant we arrived to no room....no problem. Friendly front office staff found us a room which was great. 2nd floor overlooking the street. Well appointed but beware that the balcony is wrap around the building so inconsiderate neighbours having coffee and a smoke early in the morning...

I stayed overnight on a drive up from the Bloomfield Track. It was ok 2 air conditioners one in bedroom and lounge. Outdoor seats on a shared balcony overlooking the Main Street which was a problem since couple next door got up at 6am and were chatting loudly right outside. The pool was pretty good but 2 gates were locked...

We very much enjoyed our stay in a 2 bedroom apartment overlooking the main street. The apartments are quite dark and bedrooms relatively small but the living areas are spacious and comfortable. What makes this a great place to stay is the gorgeous free-form pool and the well-priced cafe meals, with a daily special. The upstairs restaurant is very pricey...

All I can say is Wow. What a beautiful place to stay. Staff were fabulous, our room was so large and comfortable and clean. The pool area just amazing. My Mum and I had cocktails in lovely bar/restaurant area. The hotel section downstairs serves beautiful meals. We had lunch there with my son and girlfriend and his friends who are...

Was surprised to find this gem in Cooktown. The room is amazing and the pool was just what as needed after the drive up from cape trib. Can't fault anything with this place except the parking is a little light on. Has everything you need including a restaurant, cafe, bottle shop and room service. I'm not qualified to comment but...

Have stayed here a couple of years ago in one of the two bedroom apartments and loved how much space you had. Was quite surprised with how much room we had in a one bedroom apartment this time around. The room was clean and tidy and have everything we needed. The hotel also provided a complementary bus too and from...

I stayed here two nights on bookend trips to fish on the Great Barrier Reef. The hotel, while large for Cooktown, is fairly simple. The rooms are simple and the breakfast menu was simple. From a look around Cooktown, I have no doubt that this hotel is the nicest place to stay in Cooktown. It is a 4 star hotel,...
