Clean rooms. Pool was beautiful. It's not fancy, but the bathroom was modern, and it was comfortable for a short stay. Being directly opposite the RSL and Bowling clubs was a bonus. We didn't eat any meals in the restaurant- prices were high compared to other options in town. Staff were helpful and friendly. Be warned- no lifts, so if...

Very nice rooms and good bathrooms with large benches, good cupboard space but only 6 coat hangers so asked for more. Bed firm but OK. Sadly our balcony was very small (Room 209) with only 1 opening door. For the same price other rooms have much better views over the pool and lovely double balconies and doors. We'd unpacked before...

My wife and I had room 218, overlooking the sensational pool from a good sized balcony. Good facilities generally - bed, pillows, shower but lack of couch or chairs inside is a drawback. We were encouraged to bring outside furniture in but it is rattan chairs only. Eventually we were given a spare chair. Fridge full of stuff you don't...

The reception staff were very friendly and helpful. My room was upstairs overlooking the pool and was either brand new or newly renovated. It was quite spacious, had a balcony, and a stocked bar fridge. Although I didn't have a view of the Endeavour River, I was very happy with the room and thought it was good value.

I have to say the roast dinner served here was the worst I've ever tried to eat, dry meat, tiniest amount of gravy, undercooked hard potatoes and cold. They weren't busy at all, so can't be blamed on being under pressure. A smile from the staff might have made up for it, but no, as cold as the meal

The Sovereign is the place to stay. A historic hotel. We had a great room, overlooking the pool. Quiet at night. Friendly service. In fact we should have stayed longer and if we go back to Cooktown, we'll definitely stay again.

We booked the double bedroom apartment, it was clean and adequately furnished, but with disappointing details: toilet lock was too stiff for my 80 year old Mother to work, the only bathroom in the apartment had an overhead shower with a poor flow rate and it flooded most of the floor, fortunately no one slipped, power sockets were inadequate and...

During our stay in far North Queensland we had a couple of lunches at The Sovereign Hotel when we were in Cooktown to replenish supplies. The meals were great and the beer nice and cold. The menu is fairly varied and reasonably priced.

We spent one night here as a couple in a Resort Room after driving up from Port Douglas and before our adventure the next day driving down the Bloomfield Track. It was a great choice and seems to be the best place to stay in town. The check-in staff were extremely helpful and friendly as we had no idea where...

We had an overnight stay here recently having taken the Bloomfield track up from the Daintree. We were very happy with our choice as this is a beautifully appointed hotel, from the oasis style tropical pool, beautifully kept gardens, fabulous bathroom with a fantastic shower and good quality (my favourite) urban skincare company products! Foxtel, free wifi, great restaurant (look...
