We found this place last minute through trip advisor and was not disappointed! Wonderful service, beautiful modern rooms and relaxing pool. Great night stay. Free and fast wifi which was a blessing after camping in remote places. Would highly recommend!

From our check at reception to cocktails in the bar we found the staff to be friendly, efficient and helpful. The rooms, which appeared to be newly renovated, were clean and well appointed - in fact the hotel facilities were very good. Our double room with balcony overlooked the tropical lagoon pool and BBQ area and an absolute plus is...

Set around a tropical garden, which includes a swimming pool, and located in Cooktown's main street, the Sovereign Resort Hotel had all we needed during our recent three night stay. We chose a Deluxe room that, although a bit more expensive, was spacious with separate sleeping and living areas and a place to sit on the balcony. The room was...

I stayed for a week whilst doing a course in town. Service was second to none. I was dropped at the training centre each day by the courtesy bus. Food at the restaurant was of a high standard. Everything I asked for was not a problem and even after I checked out, I was given a room for two hours...

A wonderful place to stay in Cooktown. Very friendly and attentive staff, excellent food and top accommodation. Right in the middle of town so it's close to everything. The staff is a wonderful mix of local and overseas. Rooms are spacious and well maintained. Couldn't fault the place.

Clean rooms. Pool was beautiful. It's not fancy, but the bathroom was modern, and it was comfortable for a short stay. Being directly opposite the RSL and Bowling clubs was a bonus. We didn't eat any meals in the restaurant- prices were high compared to other options in town. Staff were helpful and friendly. Be warned- no lifts, so if...

Very nice rooms and good bathrooms with large benches, good cupboard space but only 6 coat hangers so asked for more. Bed firm but OK. Sadly our balcony was very small (Room 209) with only 1 opening door. For the same price other rooms have much better views over the pool and lovely double balconies and doors. We'd unpacked before...

My wife and I had room 218, overlooking the sensational pool from a good sized balcony. Good facilities generally - bed, pillows, shower but lack of couch or chairs inside is a drawback. We were encouraged to bring outside furniture in but it is rattan chairs only. Eventually we were given a spare chair. Fridge full of stuff you don't...

The reception staff were very friendly and helpful. My room was upstairs overlooking the pool and was either brand new or newly renovated. It was quite spacious, had a balcony, and a stocked bar fridge. Although I didn't have a view of the Endeavour River, I was very happy with the room and thought it was good value.

I have to say the roast dinner served here was the worst I've ever tried to eat, dry meat, tiniest amount of gravy, undercooked hard potatoes and cold. They weren't busy at all, so can't be blamed on being under pressure. A smile from the staff might have made up for it, but no, as cold as the meal
