We wish we had another child enrolling in Kenyon College so that we can stay at this lovely B&B.
It is the BEST location in town with the most welcoming the TV room, lovely living room, kitchen complete with round the clock cookies, coffee, tea, etc., porch, back garden area, and a place for our college student to stop by on her way to and from class.
We were lucky enough to win a room in the Graduation lottery...can hardly wait to get back!
Thank you Betsy for making our stays so comfortable.
Wish we had gone to Kenyon College but visiting our child in Gambier and staying at the Gambier House is a treat!
On top of that, the breakfasts were scrumptious. No, you don't get much of a choice--but then, this isn't a restaurant. Our daughter is a vegetarian (we're omnivores), and this was taken into account with the main courses each day. When we were served sausage to supplement the French toast, our daughter was given a different "extra." The mixed fruit we had on the second and third days of our stay was fine, but the melon that we had on our first day was out of this world--perfectly ripe and sweet. Not to mention unlimited coffee, OJ, etc. Oh--and wonderful muffins.
There were snacks available too: home-made cookies each day, cold cereal if we wanted, even soda in the refrigerator! I'm hoping I didn't gain too much weight.
Yes, there's a dog--a very well-behaved one named Hotspur (what did you expect? Spot?). If you're allergic, that might be a problem.
We found the hospitality to be warm and genuine, and we thoroughly enjoyed our conversations with the other guests (one of the reasons we like B&Bs).
The only real problem we had was that the lighting in the various rooms was pretty dim. It's an older house, and this might be related to the wiring capability, but it was a small annoyance to me. But it's a small irritation. I don't know if my daughter will choose to apply to Kenyon, or if she'll be accepted should she do so--but I'm tempted to return just enjoy this experience no matter what happens on the college front!
I have never liked eggs, but Betsy's breakfast has made me a believer. She leaves delicious cookies in the cookie jar for that late night snack, and makes the place really feel like a home away from home.
"Don't know if there are downstairs rooms....have to climb stairs for upper rooms."Read full review
"The Drawer Room is amazing but the shower in the bathroom is stifling even for someone who is not claustrophobic. The other room we stayed in had two full size beds and seemed cramped while the Drawer Room seemed bigger - even the bed but the shower in the first room was great. Right down at the end of the hall."Read full review
"Old renovated house with stairs to most bedrooms. We stayed in the drawers room which is quirky but fun. Has a full sized bed, so a couple should ask for a room with a larger bed."Read full review
