I loved this hotel. The room was charming, the staff very helpful and friendly and the hotel has a great ambiance. The breakfast was the best in Longyearbyen, and the bar meal steak sandwich was exceptional. I would ask for a room at the back as we saw reindeer several times. I believe Wi-Fi is only free for two hours.

This is a hotel that scores well across the board without being exceptional. The standard is good by Norwegian measures, it is clean with good beds, a large breakfast buffet and friendly staff. The interior has a special ambiance due to being an old building with an interesting history.

Very happy. The staff member very helpful with organising our tours. I could not praise the front desk staff member enough for her assistance. The staff in the restaurant were also pleasant. Our room had a great view of the sunset each night as did the restaurant. Our room very comfortable and clean.

The hotel was originally the accommodation for the white collar staff at the mine, converted now into a comfortable hotel. From those early days, it retains features like an elegant, but not extravagant, wood panelled bar area and a series of interesting prints from the explorers of the early 19th century. The rooms are well equipped and well maintained, though...

Not in the centre of Longyearbyen so one can take pretty good aurora shots from behind the hotel. They offer a free call service to alert you to aurora. Breakfasts had a good range of cooked and continental. Dinner a la care in the restaurant was very good. Leave your boots in the hall and wear slippers round the hotel....

Stayed here for three nights. Really friendly and helpful staff. Rooms could do with a refurb as very dated, but for three days it was ok. We did have a broken lock on our window so window kept opening which isn't good when it's minus 20 outside. Breakfast food choice was good, amazed at the variety as we were so...

It's a bit of a walk into town but it is more then worth it! The staff is super nice and helpful. The free internet in the lobby is a nice thing to have. There was free coffee and tea all day long and in the afternoons also free make-your-own-waffles behind the lobby bar. Great place to stay before heading...

The hotel is nice and pleasurable, beautifully located on a hill with a view over Longyearbyen (only a 10-15 minute walk to the town centre). We really enjoyed the cosy feeling in Funken (the hotel bar) and we also enjoyed the food, both dinner and breakfast, at Funktionærmessen (the hotel restaurant). The hotel facilities are quite nice, preserving the classic...

Thank you for taking the time to write to us regarding your recent stay at the hotel. Our restaurant was recently awarded a listing in the Scandinavian White Guide so we are happy to hear that the food prepared for breakfast and for dinner met with your approval. The hotel does indeed have historical significance for Longyearbyen whilst we keep...

This hotel at the top of the hill is great! It is a traditional building but will all the modern-day comforts that you could want. Don’t be put off by the hill. A walk from one end of town to the other takes 10 – 15 minutes depending on your fitness level. If you book tours they will pick you...

Went there in January(dark season) with my girlfriend. We were upgraded at no additional cost from Coalminer's cabins due to Coalminers being closed for the season, so we got a very good price. First thing you notice when you get into the hotel, is the dressing room. You enter into a large area for dressing and undressing your large outdoors...

'Fantastic review of the top of the world', thank you for writing to let us know what you both thought of your stay here during the Polar night. So many great tips for future guests, though we do of course hope to be able to welcome yourselves back soon as well. Waffles, cosy beds, helpful assistance .... welcome to Svalbard!...
