An ancient coaching inn on the old Great North Road, this has been a place to travelers to stop and rest for centuries. It includes a lively pub and a comfortable hotel. Remarkably good value, you know what to expect from Weatherspoons. Narrow stairs, no elevator.

Ate there today 23/11/2021, the three of us had burger and chips. Turns out they had no salt. How can they allow that to happen and why couldn't they go and buy some? Made the meal very bland. Somebody's big mistake.

Room immaculate, extra pillows given as requested, asked for room 103 where we have previously stayed via email, quick response from manager Amy Yates. Was checked in by manager Adam who showed us to our room personally with our extra pillows. We need extra pillows as unfortunately my husband slipped on ice at a Travelodge which hadn’t salted their car park & still is suffering from painful shoulders. Customer service given by all outstanding, was asked in the morning if we had enjoyed our stay. We will definitely always use the Crown as our first choice, quiet & peaceful, which is needed as we work with social services & need to fill out a lot of paperwork. Free Wi-Fi a bonus. Thanks to all at the Crown Martin & Laura Gough

We booked in for three nights, whilst visiting elderly relatives in the area. We were not expecting much having stayed in Wetherspoons Hotels in the past. Wow what a wonderful surprise.....right from the time of arrival. The manager booked us in, a very charming man, polite and professional. Our room was a bit of a route march but when we opened the electronic lock, the opulence hit us. An excellent refurbished room very clean and full of all mod coms. The towels were soft and fluffy, the pillows sterile and new, the bathroom had a wonderful shower with lots of hot water and heated towel rail. My only observation was that the shaving mirror was placed too high, it is impossible to jump up whilst shaving but a taller person can bend down....!
