Very late booking so our room was reduced from £370 to £250 for a night. Arrived and met by lovely check in staff. Showed the room which looked lovely. Impressive but not £370 worth. For this money I would have expected it to be perfect. On the surface it looked clean but the bathroom was dusty and dirty skirting boards and towel radiator. We were hoping to watch the closing ceremony but the tv didn’t work. When we called down there was nothing they could do. Dinner was overpriced and not that good. Also limited choice. Breakfast was excellent. Staff were very friendly especially Ronaldo who was so good. Dogs made very welcome. Having said this I would go back but hope some things are looked at.

Hotel's Favourite
Have just returned from an excellent Christmas break. We tagged an extra night onto the advertised 3 night package. We had a very enjoyable time and were very well fed and looked after. The staff team on duty should all be commended for their professionalism and friendliness - just the right combination of both. The little extras really made it feel special - we are enjoying the complimentary champagne as I write this, as we brought it home with us. Our room (18) was lovely - very spacious and quite luxurious. Only very slight issue is that the bathroom from the next room is next to no 18 seating area and it is quite noisy when neighbours are in the shower.

Great location and a warm welcome but massively overpriced. Main concern was the dirty, dusty room, TV that didn’t show BBC. Even our table for breakfast was dirty. A deep clean is needed. Had been recommended so I guess it has been better ….

We have just returned from a two night stay here and enjoyed every minute. We had a very comfortable room (3) and every meal we had was delicious. The conservatory dining room was lovely and airy, tables just the right distance apart. The chef produces superb, imaginative food, perfectly seasoned and a joy to eat. Every member of staff was charming, efficient and friendly. Trevor, the assistant hotel manager, met us and showed us to our room and was always smiling whenever we saw him. A special thank you to the Breakfast Fairy, "Sparkle Lady" who certainly brightened the day! We came home refreshed and very content. Thank you to everyone there.

Booked a two night stay in one of the shepherds hut, going by reviews and reputation. The shepherds hut was fantastic, which had a private hot tub that was kept clean to a high standard, couldn’t fault hut or tub, however totally different story when it came to the evening meal. No atmosphere and un friendly staff, didn’t even have chance to ask for another drink when mains were served, as they were given it seemed in a cafe style way . The food was average, but felt maybe the whole dining experience took the joy out of the food. The restaurant, which is a conservatory with wicker tables and chairs, needed a good clean, dirty windows and ceiling blinds full of flys. Tables set out in two straight lines didn’t help with ambiance. Breakfast staff however were fab and friendly couldn’t fault them. We chose not to eat in restaurant for our second evening, and ate else where.

We stayed with friends here at the end of May. The hotel is pleasant enough, with a kindly staff. Our room was satisfactory and clean but nothing special for the huge price we paid. This was in no way a luxury room . The sad and disappointing part was the evening meals . So overpriced for two reasons. One, a very poor selection, only three choices for each course. Two, both my friend and I could have produced these meals ourselves. How the hotel have the praise it has for its menus I really can’t comprehend. Don’t go to this hotel if you love interesting and delicious tasting food! Two, quite unimaginative dishes, not once did anyone say that their meal was fantastic or had a wow factor, both my friend and I could have served these meals up . Basically the dinner price was twice the price one would expect to pay for such fare .

Having been here several times over recent years during my annual holiday, and having such amazing food and service previously, goes without saying it was a must go yet again. Sat as usual in the Conservatory which is light and airy with immaculate white crisp linen tablecloths. Seen to promptly for drink order. As this was my holiday 'treat' i pushed the boat out... and also because i couldnt choose between all of the really tempting offerings. PRAWN TARTLET- A really thin crisp case containing succulent prawns lighty dressed with a marie rose dusted with paprika, pickled cucumber and 'caviar' with a few ultrafresh fronds of dill and miniature edible flower petals. HAM HOCK TERRINE, BRIOCHE, CAPER JAM, PICKLED SHALLOTS - Melt in the mouth tender and a generous slice of toasted brioche to construct bitesize mouthfuls of complementary tastes and textures. *** STONEBASS, ROMESCO SAUCE, BASIL, COURGETTE AND TOASTED ALMOND - First time trying this fish. Was like a cross between bass, plaice and a bit of makerel. Again superb pairings of tastes and textures. The basil was in the form of a puree like the romesco and the little splash of balsamic was a good touch, adding a touch of 'zing. LAMB LOIN, CONFIT BELLY, PEAS BROADBEANS, CHARRED BROCOLLI AND WHITE WINE SAUCE ‐ The perfectly cooked loin and confit (which had a crispy thin top much like expertly cooked skin on a crispy duck) were served with a rich sauce with amazing depth of flavour and the white wine sauce was like a lovely tangy reduction swirled round the outside of the dish which was almost like a gel and complemented the lamb well. STRAWBERRIES AND HONEYCOMB - Airlight thin shards of homemade honeycomb atop fragrant fresh strawberries with a underlay of fresh cream. BANANA PARFAIT, WHIPPED CHOCOLATE CREMEUX, SALTED CARAMEL, PEANUT BRITTLE - Was like your tastebuds had run amok in a retro sweet shop...smooth parfait, rich indulgent chcoolate cremeux with a warmed caramel sauce and moreish rough crumb peanut brittle. All im all perfectly seasoned food, beautifully presented, in my opinion good value for money. If you appreciate fine food do not hesitate to come here. Hopefully my photos will do the food justice See you next year guys!

Stayed in the Potting Shed ( room 19 ) . Very spacious and clean. Great double shower and comfy bed. Love the touch of complimentary liquer , beers and water. Room has nice balcony overlooking the garden and has its own parking spot directly outside the room. Reception staff very friendly . Extremely dog friendly - even welcome treats ! Very relaxed setting - breakfast very good . Special mention to Ronaldo whose service was outstanding.

Massively over-priced. At the price (£320 dinner bed and breakfast) and having seen great reviews, I had a high expectation of something special. How wrong I was. Room was large, nice garden outside but inside very dark and ‘styled’ (misnomer) as a 1960s basic chalet. Strange second-hand furniture shop-type mismatched furniture. At that price, one would expect some luxury but this was basic and cheap. Thick dust on top of the wardrobe (easily visible as it was a strangely squat wardrobe), two random jumble-sale vases left on top (presumably forgotten and left in error). Not possible to leave windows open as front window and French doors at back both opened on to public spaces. Sheets were crisply laundered but coverlet and cushions were rather cheap and tired and somewhat suspect in terms of recent laundering. I know when you’re travelling with dogs as I was, you never get the best rooms but mine was depressing. Dinner was at best very ordinary. I can see they’re trying to get the fine dining vibe but this was nowhere near that level. Waiter was trying his best but clearly new to this type of role and had no clue as to what drinks they had or what items on the menu were. Bread turned up after the starter had been served and cleared away. Appreciate there’s a shortage of experienced hospitality staff but some training would have made him much less awkward. The staff generally were nice and I think wanted to be helpful (hence 2* rating rather than 1*) but had no idea of the quality of service required in a hotel, let alone one in this price bracket. Breakfast service started at 8 a.m. and I was there bang on as I couldn’t wait to get out but there was no one there when I arrived. The food when it came was pretty good albeit unadventurous. All in all a very sad experience; relieved I was only staying one night and couldn’t wait to get away

We are very sorry that your stay was not as you expected and that our hotel simply did not fit your expectations. However, we are pleased that you found our staff generally helpful and we apologise for any lapses. Our breakfast staff are on duty from 7am to prepare for the breakfast service - our staff member may have been in the kitchen checking final details and hopefully your wait was not lenghty.
