Fantastic Christmas lunch just the sprouts a bit hard!! Great service & very prompt polite replies to my emails Nice to be asked if we wanted a breather before dessert. Would highly recommend it. Shame it's too far just to pop back.

Booked five large bearded men in for breakfast before walking in local area and were not disappointed by large quality breakfast provided. The hotel is situated in the village of Dunwich which is surrounded by lovely countryside and coast with huge skies to boot. Service was prompt and friendly and the breakfast room was old quirky and warm. All round...

We decided to return again to celebrate or wedding anniversary after an enjoyable stay last year. I'm glad to say that we were not disappointed. The room ( one off the car park)on first impression was small. We soon realised it was newly refurbished and well equipped, warm and cosy. Very clean and bathroom shower very hot and powerful. After a...

I have previously written a very poor review of the food I have had here on more than one occasion, but I have visited the pub again twice in the last few weeks and am pleased to say that, on both occasions, the food was really very good, particularly the fish and chips which I had today, and the staff...

The Ship is a lovely place to stay, We spent for 2 nights there and were very impressed with the staff and happy with the accommodation. Being an old building it's difficult to criticize creaky floors and wonky doors but a little bit of attention can make a difference. The room we stayed in, Marsh View best, could definitely do...

Booked in for an early dinner purely based on others' reviews - and (in the main) was not disappointed. A fairly limited menu reflected (I think) more an understanding of what they could do well rather than limited ambition, because most of what we had was really good. My mildly curried parsnip soup was really nice - hearty without being...

Cosy intimate friendly good menu ... but they like you to eat not just drink. Went for walk with dogs on beach and were eating later so not requiring lunch. Good ale. Close to beach. Dogs allowed in bar...

The ship is perfectly placed three minutes walk to the glorious beach at Dunwich. We have stayed a couple of times, once in the main pub and once in the annex rooms. Both are well appointed if a little small but they are clean and it's all about seeing Suffolk! Staff are friendly and the cooked breakfast (and other options)...

Having moved into the area for semi retirement and acquired a new Puppy Black Terrier that need lots of walks we try and go out twice a week for lunch. We normally go to Southwold and have always had fabulous meals We thought we would make a change and explore the other side of the river from Southwold and walk...

We are nothing without feedback, So can I start by thanking you for taking the time to let us know about your recent experience with us. It saddens me to read your review as it is so far from the experience we wish to deliver for every customer walking into The Ship. If I am honest it sounds as if...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Once a haunt of smugglers, The Ship Inn isn't just a great place to eat, drink, relax and get away from it all – we like to think it's also part of a great story. Now a quiet, idyllic village surrounded by nature reserves, heathland and beach, only the romantic ruins of Dunwich monastery remain to hint at the fate of this once thriving medieval port claimed by the waves during a terrible storm. It's said you can still hear the peal of the church bells beneath the waves. While we can't guarantee that, there are certain, more earthly things we're always happy to provide… real ales, real food and a real fire. You will find: a great pub, home-cooked food in our restaurant, a cosy hotel with comfortable, traditionally furnished bedrooms, some with views across the sea or marshes. There is also an enormous garden dotted with fruit trees (including our 300 year old fig tree) and a beach that really is just a couple of minutes walk away. Whether you want to use it as a base to explore this wild and wonderful coastline, enjoy some of the best fish and chips on the Suffolk coast or simply indulge in a pint or two of Adnams, The Ship Inn at Dunwich extends the warmest of welcomes. ... more   less
