We turned up, having booked on booking.com to find that there was a dog fee of £15 per night. Fair enough, some places charge for dogs, however to get up and take him to breakfast the next day to then be told he can’t come in the dining room is just ridiculous. No problem at all if there was a proper separate dining space, I understand some people don’t like dogs, but we were asked to sit at a long low coffee table in a foyer type area, to eat our breakfast. We ended up having to take our dog back to the room and return to breakfast without him (thankfully he’s well behaved). Considering the fee for dogs, I was expecting the room to be super clean but alas it looked like it was in need of a face lift and a good dust. I will say the hosts were nice enough though.
The property was full of character and original features. It was easy enough to find and there was just enough parking. The staff were warm and welcoming & nothing was too much trouble. The food & drinks were wonderful and the room was snug, comfy and cosy. We would happily return.
Wowcher deal, for the price couldnt go wrong. The staff were great, helpful and chatty. food was lovely, had the cooked breakfast and the Sri Lankan set meal. The bar area was lovely and warm and a nice atmosphere. Room could probably have done with a little bit of TLC the shower area has seen better days but overall a very nice stay.
Hmmmmmm Ok so on arrival the greet was not over welcoming We were shown to our room for which was very small but very cosy .. comfy bed etc... But...then on more close view of the room , the room had clearly not been cleaned ..thick layers of dust and cobwebs everywhere . I asked if we could move rooms and this was granted . We were placed in a much bigger room for which I was most grateful, but again cleaning standards could of been improved even in this room. We did manage to sleep ( just ) because the bed was so old and the springs coming thru the mattress . I don't think we will be returning , a shame as the hotel obviously is old and full of character and we were so looking forward to it .
Short stay-over on my latest author tour... booked at the last minute, just because it was close to my next school. Genteel charm of a traditional pub... rooms were part of a olde worlde barn conversion (it feels) across from the main pub but well appointed, nothing fancy but clean and comfortable, with good wi-fi. The staff were awesome, couldn't do enough, ultra-friendly. I was leaving too early for breakfast in the morning so they prepared me a brekkie bag (thank you) But dinner at the pub? It was incredible!! By chance, I arrived on Biryani Night in the pub and the food was brilliant!! Huge portion, beautifully cooked and with unbelievable quality. I lived in the Middle East (Dubai)for a few years, and visited Doha, Oman, India and Sri Lanka multiple times and enjoyed our teams' "Biryani Thursday" on multiple occasions, from local restuarants but here, at The Crown, their biryani was as authentic, and as tasty as any I've tried before. Maybe it was just nostalgia, but wow, it was great!…
Beautiful area, the hotel was very clean and the 4 poster bedroom was lovely and very clean. The breakfast was lovely and evening meal was cooked well. The staff were exceptional and chatty especially Sheldon and hasini and they always made sure you were ok. We will definitely be staying again
My partner and I spent 2 nights here and it was brilliant. The staff were very friendly and warm and the food was top notch. Generous create your own style breakfast with a selection of continental to help yourself to and it was all locally sourced handmade and delicious. Honorable mention to the burger it was the best I have ever had and my partner had the Sri Lankan curry which was equally nice and well presented. We hope to return again in the future
We really enjoyed our stay here. The staff made you feel very welcome and nothing was too much trouble. The food was delicious and the room was very cosey. We had a very relaxing time away here, highly recommend!
Hotel could do with bit of update but room was nice and cosy. Sri Lankan couple are very hospitable and the food was really good too. We had the Sri Lankan Lamb curry and steak. Hope to return one day.
We popped into crown hotel without a reservation for dinner with a group of friends, the host were extremely friendly and they welcomed us showing that their true hospitality and their menu had great options. To be honest the food was extremely tasty and was on proper temperature. Try sirloin steak which is well worth. Real value for money. We had a great evening even though we did not plan it. We will return.
