We originally wanted to stay in Chawton, but the b&b didnt have enough room for us, which turned out to be a blessing. From the moment we arrived Joan the owner, could not have been a better hostess and breakfast delicious. 2 of us stayed in the Garden suite, which was a private space just across from the house. It...

St Mary's Hall is a wonderful place to stay in the village of Alton, Hampshire. The welcome was so hospitable. All amenities are great and the hosts, Joan and Jack, are truly delightful people. There is an attention to detail for visitors which we found very impressive. I cannot recommend this place more highly if you are visiting this area....

A very warm welcome and friendly reception after a long day. Room and surroundings very clean, fresh and well maintained. As a business traveller, this accommodation probably out performs other hotels in the price range. Breakfast carefully prepared and tasty. Thank you Joan!!

We (mother and two adult daughters) stayed at Joan's place for three nights in June and really enjoyed our visit! St Mary's Hall exceeded our expectations. The place is extra clean, comfortable, beautiful and very well located. Joan herself was a marvelous host: welcoming, warm, friendly and helpful. Since we had two rooms downstairs we also had the shared living...

All the basics are done brilliantly: clean, comfortable, quiet, convenient for Jane Austen enthusiasts who want to see Chawton, superb breakfasts with locally-sourced foods, and a lovely private patio that gets the afternoon sun. The Garden Suite is very private, spacious, and with an amazing bathroom and ingenious shower. Best of all, Joan Mossop is a wonderfully warm, helpful host....

This is a gem. I stayed here with my husband, three children under 6 years and my in-laws. The rooms were spotlessly clean to the point the bathtoom looked brand new and i walked in bare feet straight away. So much thought has gone into guest comfort and everything you could think of was there, including an excellent hair dryer,...

We stayed at St Mary's from 5 August for 3 nights, first in the Garden Suite and then were lucky enough to be to stay an additional night here and Joan very kindly accommodated us in the Tower Room as the Garden Suite was booked that night. Both accommodations were excellent! Breakfast was lovely too. Joan & Jack are great...

My wife and I spent a fleeting visit here but we were not disappointed. I would strongly recommend this B&B to friends. It's top end, very comfortable, clean and current. The hosts take a huge pride in their home and it shows. They are warm and welcoming. Breakfast was first class - smoked salmon and scrambled eggs, served at a...

We were lucky enough to stay at St. Mary's Hall during our recent Jane Austen tour of England, and we can't say enough nice things about the room, location, and owner. We stayed in the Knight room, which offered two comfortable twin beds, tasteful decor and a great bathroom just across the hall. There was also a lovely sitting room,...

The place is amazing! The oldy-worldy atmosphere is preserved (used to be a church), but the rooms and baths are completely up to modern smarts and then some. Bathrooms are not just en suite, but separate rooms and outfitted beautifully. Breakfast offerings are myriad, gargantuan and uniformly delicious. Breakfast is served in a lovely dining room in the old part...
