Watford junction is quite a distance, about 10/15 miles I would say. There Is a mainline station in Hemel Hempstead but a taxi ride away, too far to walk. It's next to a BP petrol station with a small m&s food shop. There are restaurants and a Tesco supermarket near but not really walking distance as there are no pavements. It's ok if you're driving down the M1 as it is just off junction 8 and you do need a car to get to shops and restaurants. Personally I'd look for a hotel in Watford town centre.
