Not the first time we have stayed at the hotel so we were aware what a great place this is to stay! Bit of a shame to see the draft cider and Guinness has been taken out with the updating of the bar, but the bar area does look very good. I did find the bottle beer a little too...

We went for a one night stay for a Valentine's treat and had a lovely stay at the Walpole. The staff were extremely friendly and welcoming, and we sat on the terrace when we arrived and had a great afternoon tea (photo for good measure!) - they really looked after us! Two words of warning; upstairs is boiling hot, so...

We arrived at the WBH last Sunday with my mom and grandma It looked so wonderful from the outside and the inside as well. It's has a 1920's feeling, with all the fascinating decor and old objects. We were welcomed by the front desk personnel, they politely asked us what we would like for our cream tea ( sandwiches, scones,...

We have had many Sunday lunches at the WBH in the past but last year we had a job getting in as they were so very busy and fully booked. Giving a lot of notice we were lucky this time and were booked in for our lunch. The Walpole is just so special and we were so glad to be...

We booked at the last minute and how lucky we were! I cannot fault this wonderful establishment! If you prefer somewhere totally original and of an era that has now sadly passed us by then this is the place. The room was gorgeous and very comfortable! We ate in the restaurant and it did not disappoint and that is the...

Stayed for one night in February during a SE business trip. Very nice 1920's style hotel with lots of interesting long forgotten implements and furniture. Food was great and staff were very friendly and helpful. Bowls Greens indoor and outdoor adjacent to the hotel and also the beach.

The Walpole Bay Hotel is pretty well known for appearances on various TV shows. We needed a weekend away so booked 2 nights. The hotel is in a Victorian/Edwardian building near the beach at Cliftonville. Parking was no issue on the road outside. On entering you get the feeling for the owners taste in decor there are curious collectables everywhere....

Walpole, Walpole, Walpole... What can I say about you ay? You magnificent relic. There have only been a few moments in Begby's long and fruitful life that really knock us off our socks and YOU Miss Walpole, passing through your doors, was one of them! Another that springs to my mind was my first lambing season on my aunt's farm....

To start with, if you like quirky and vintage - and I do - this is THE hotel for you. It is the epitome of a time capsule and you HAVE to take that in to consideration when thinking about staying here. having said all of that, the beds are comfortable, the food was good, the staff are incredibly friendly...

Would not recommended the cream and scone tea. It looked appetising enough, a well set tea tray with two large scones apparently home made but when attempting to pick the scone up it fell to pieces and tasted decidedly doughey. The waiter assured us the scones were adequately cooked but helpfully changed them for another two, which he assured us...
