We chose the Whitehall from the Web as it was close enough for shopping in Blackburn but still rural and away from the main roads. We were the only guests staying after a busy Easter yet we were made to feel very special and were able to upgrade to a beautiful 4 poster room with a jacuzzi bath suite FOC....

We came here for a wedding on the 4th of April, the room was clean and spacious, check in was a breeze & the customer service was brilliant! The wedding service was lovely and the room it was held in was gorgeous. The wedding breakfast was literally one of the nicest wedding meals I've had. The gravy was to die...

We went there for a Sunday Lunch. From the moment we arrived we were treated as if we were the most important people of the day. The service was fantastic and the food superb. The way that the staff looked after us made us want to return.

After a slight rocky start slight mix up over booking I requested a ground floor which was not a problem. First impressions lovely faded grandeur of a country house hotel, although you first drive through a busy street of terraced houses then the hotel is up a drive it emerges and looks impressive. It is very quiet. My room was...

I booked a night at the Whitehall for my husband's birthday last weekend and didn't regret it. We got married here 5 years ago and haven't been back since then, until now. We stayed in the huge bridal suite (room 31) which was so comfortable. It has chairs, a chaise-longue, a four poster bed, a massive shower, a bath and...

We were pleasantly surprised to find that the restaurant had been updated & now has a lovely modern feel. We were greeted with a complimentary drink & canapés &...

The staff were very helpful but did not like the decor in the bedroom, definitely not the black curtains. The extractor fan in the bathroom was not working and there were a couple of holes in the towels. The breakfast area was not a bit warm or inviting and the poached eggs I ordered were hard in the middle, the...

There are not many choices and although we initially chose no.1 in Darwen, we ended up in the Whitehall due to lack of availability in the other and there is no regret. The staff is very nice and welcoming. The hotel is a bit old-fashioned in its decor and apart from the modern flat-screen TV, this could have been a...

I have been looking at your hotel as a potential venue, however my concern seen by my partner to a recent reviews about poor service where of no great concerns given peoples differing opinions.

However my one major area of concern is with your apparent substandard food hygiene rating as identified on ratings.food.gov.uk/business/en-GB/212113/Whitehall-Hotel-Darwen by the local council

The site rates your establishment as a 2 – Improvement necessary at the date of inspection on the 03 August 2016

Area inspected by food safety officer Standards found

Hygienic food handling - Hygienic handling of food including preparation, cooking, re-heating, cooling and storage - Generally satisfactory

Cleanliness and condition of facilities and building - Cleanliness and condition of facilities and building (including having appropriate layout, ventilation, hand washing facilities and pest control) to enable good food hygiene - Improvement necessary

Management of food safety - System or checks in place to ensure that food sold or served is safe to eat, evidence that staff know about food safety, and the food safety officer has confidence that standards will be maintained in future. -Generally satisfactory

What can you do as a potential visitor to alleviate my concerns of not becoming ill due to your poor food preparation standards especially around the

Cleanliness and condition of facilities and building which was reported as “Improvement necessary”?

Can you advise of why such a highly rated venue would achieve such a low score?

Can you confirm what improvements you have made?

Can you ensure your food preparation is of a standard rather than of a dodgy back street café or take-away?
