I was to have an early meeting in Darwen the following morning so stayed here overnight to make sure I was not late. I was not expecting to stay in such a warm & friendly place. The room was modern, warm & clean, bathroom was just about right. I decided to eat here and was surprised to find such a...

Both my husband and myself had our 60th birthday parties there and we were given a private room on both occasions. The food is consistently excellent and the management and staff are the best you could find anywhere. Looking forward to many more visits. Thank you

Stayed at the Whitehall hotel with a large party of people as we were attending a wedding elsewhere. The staff couldn't have been friendlier and showed us nothing but a good time. Had breakfast in the morning, which was superb, and loved the fact that the bar stayed open until we all went to bed! I would defiantly recommend staying...

I was sad to read that a family had been dissatisfied with a recent funeral buffet at the Whitehall Hotel. I have been to many functions at the hotel including a funeral buffet and have always found the food to be very good and the staff more than helpful. I do know that the manager or a member of staff...

Unfortunately with this being of a sensitive nature, we did not speak with the Manager on the day as it was upsetting enough, i wrote on behalf of my brother-in-law who was the bereft. A buffet was ordered for 50 guests. The food was brought out and served to guests, and there was not enough food for a childrens party...

I have been looking at your hotel as a potential venue, however my concern seen by my partner to a recent reviews about poor service where of no great concerns given peoples differing opinions.

However my one major area of concern is with your apparent substandard food hygiene rating as identified on ratings.food.gov.uk/business/en-GB/212113/Whitehall-Hotel-Darwen by the local council

The site rates your establishment as a 2 – Improvement necessary at the date of inspection on the 03 August 2016

Area inspected by food safety officer Standards found

Hygienic food handling - Hygienic handling of food including preparation, cooking, re-heating, cooling and storage - Generally satisfactory

Cleanliness and condition of facilities and building - Cleanliness and condition of facilities and building (including having appropriate layout, ventilation, hand washing facilities and pest control) to enable good food hygiene - Improvement necessary

Management of food safety - System or checks in place to ensure that food sold or served is safe to eat, evidence that staff know about food safety, and the food safety officer has confidence that standards will be maintained in future. -Generally satisfactory

What can you do as a potential visitor to alleviate my concerns of not becoming ill due to your poor food preparation standards especially around the

Cleanliness and condition of facilities and building which was reported as “Improvement necessary”?

Can you advise of why such a highly rated venue would achieve such a low score?

Can you confirm what improvements you have made?

Can you ensure your food preparation is of a standard rather than of a dodgy back street café or take-away?
