My partner and I had the Prosecco afternoon tea and weren't expecting anything amazing due to booking though groupon. The cafetière didn't work so the coffee was awful. The Prosecco was nice. The sandwiches were very standard not very tasty. The scones came ready filled with cream and jam, this may be picky but I think cream and jam should...

Always a warm welcome from Neil . Gill and Anita. The menu is varied and Dan the chef always willing to go off menu if you prefer. And not forgetting the lovely breakfast cooked by Caroline always with a cheery smile. Iam a frequent guest at this hotel and wouldn't stay anywhere else when in the area.

We've recently booked our wedding at The Whitehall Hotel and we couldn't be happier. Neil is outstanding and can't do enough for you - he's always willing to answer questions and bends over backwards to accommodate your requests. This is the only venue we visited which offered us a drink on arrival (a small gesture but it really did make...

I had a Groupon afternoon tea for two bought for me on Groupon as a birthday present. Picking a rare child free weekend we chose a Saturday to take it. The staff were a little slow but very polite and friendly, chatty and knowledgeable about recent refurbishments and function availability. I felt as if I were seated in a corridor...

Yesterday we had a surprise 80th birthday afternoon tea party in the Rose Room. The room looked beautiful everything was set up ready for us and when the afternoon tea came out it was just amazing. The waiter we had looked after us all so well we couldn't have asked for more. Anita, Gill and Neil were great from start...

Was in the area after working many years in Blackburn and moved over to the darkside- Yorkshire, so decided to try the Whitehall. It was like stepping back in time slightly with regards to the layout and sitting rooms etc. That said the room I stayed in was tastefully modernised with a nice Sony TV -none of those tinny ones!...

Went to the Whitehall Hotel on Boxing Day 2016 for a private function with around 60 guests. We were greeted by the lovely receptionist, Gill, on our arrival who was really accommodating and had no problem helping fulfil our requests/answering any questions we had about the venue and arrangements for the evening. The buffet consisted of lasagne, pie, salads and...

Normally, the hotels we visit on our trips around Europe are pretty mediocre, but from the moment we introduced our selves at the reception desk, we were made to feel at home. Rooms were great, I even had a four poster bed and a jacusi bath all to myself. There was a Christmas party with over 90 people on the...

I have been looking at your hotel as a potential venue, however my concern seen by my partner to a recent reviews about poor service where of no great concerns given peoples differing opinions.

However my one major area of concern is with your apparent substandard food hygiene rating as identified on ratings.food.gov.uk/business/en-GB/212113/Whitehall-Hotel-Darwen by the local council

The site rates your establishment as a 2 – Improvement necessary at the date of inspection on the 03 August 2016

Area inspected by food safety officer Standards found

Hygienic food handling - Hygienic handling of food including preparation, cooking, re-heating, cooling and storage - Generally satisfactory

Cleanliness and condition of facilities and building - Cleanliness and condition of facilities and building (including having appropriate layout, ventilation, hand washing facilities and pest control) to enable good food hygiene - Improvement necessary

Management of food safety - System or checks in place to ensure that food sold or served is safe to eat, evidence that staff know about food safety, and the food safety officer has confidence that standards will be maintained in future. -Generally satisfactory

What can you do as a potential visitor to alleviate my concerns of not becoming ill due to your poor food preparation standards especially around the

Cleanliness and condition of facilities and building which was reported as “Improvement necessary”?

Can you advise of why such a highly rated venue would achieve such a low score?

Can you confirm what improvements you have made?

Can you ensure your food preparation is of a standard rather than of a dodgy back street café or take-away?
