Crikey... Booked for one night business trip as the business was close by. Extremely dated, tired and desperately needs a refurb. The place is ancient, not dirty but seriously not seen a hotel in this shape before. Car park is pay and display but you get a card to display from reception. Breakfast was poor, luke warm and cold cooked...

Didn't bother to stay the night booked. Horrified by the two rooms offered!! Beds, deco and furnishing could have been retrieved from a skip, at best!! Staff looked embarrassed, but were obliging!!!! Nothing more to say Booking.com should not be advertising such a down trodden accommodation!!!

One night here was too long! I booked a double room but on arrival the hotel had changed to a twin. As I stood in reception someone was sent to check if the room was ok, not a good sign!! The reception area was full of leaves and looked in need of a serious update After a hard day at...

We got a good feeling for this hotel, the staff were friendly and helpful and you could easily see that in its heyday, it would have been something else, unfortunately its on a main road not surrounded by its own gardens which would have helped it. There is a lovely park out the back, a very large (public) car park...

The staff on reception were ever so welcoming. I see others' reviews and feel a bit sorry for the Royal Hotel. It's due to be refurbished soon so will lose the buddleia in the roof and the plants creeping through the cracks in the balconies. It was a good location for walking to the fine old castle. Although the rooms...

Pleasant, friendly staff. Mouldy shower, hard and squeaky beds, broken window and sash, no soundproofing to floor above. Don't mind faded glory but not possible to sleep well. The advertised rate was for a premium hotel room and the rate we paid would have bought a decent modern room in a number of local chains.

Firstly, I would like to thank the staff for their trouble during our stay, they do their very best to please. Also the breakfast was very good and the service excellent. The problem is the whole hotel is in desperate need of refurbishment. It’s a grade two listed building, and the staff told me that after many years they now...
