Where do I begin. We were sent here via a work booking and I was astounded at how grotty it was and that people were actually staying. We thought the building was derelict as its so tired from the roadside and while at some point it has been impressive its now beyond the point where calling it tired is acceptable.... More

Our lads stayed for a few nights at the beginning of September - They all moaned about the hotel because of the way the wallpaper was falling off the walls and the carpets were stuck down with celotape etc (the list went on) Therefore Cleary needs some work as our lads are pretty laid back! But what has annoyed us... More

Although the building is dated and is in need of some renovation you sense the splendour of it's past. The foyer with the two staircases is so impressive. The beds were comfortable, the room was large and clean. The breakfast was good, plentiful and hot. The staff were exemplary, particularly Nicola the receptionist. My husband had hired a dress suit... More

Stayed here as a one night stop. Staff were lovely. However, hotel is so tired and needs a bit of tlc along with some money invested. Sad to see this traditional independent hotel go to the wall. Room was large but beds old and uncomfortable. In desperate need of fresh decor and new carpets! Breakfast was lovely and quite sufficient.

I agree with the review by Julie L, I paid £65 per night for 2 nights B&B, single occupancy. The car park is "patchy" & poorly surfaced, the grand exterior of the building is a little shabby, the entrance hall interior is impressive though a little tired. My room was clean, spacious & absolutely no complaints. Lots of large clean... More

Booked this hotel because of its location to the family party we were going to. Though it a good idea to stay over and enjoy the party. Must admit I was a bit worried by the mixed reviews but decided to continue with the booking. We were fortunate to have a refurbished room which wasn't bad for what we had... More

After reading some of the reviews I didn't know what to expect. But what I found was a lovely friendly old hotel.Yes it needs some refurbishment in places but we had a lovely large modern room which was very clean and comfortable. The staff and service was excellent and the breakfast tasty. The hotel is in a good position for walking... More

We booked the Royal Hotel last minuet, to be fair they were very accommodating. The staff were lovely, professional and polite. The hotel is a little run down, however it is a very old building. I imagine it's very expensive to maintain. The breakfast was lovely, and the ladies who served were cheerful and happy to help. The first thing... More

We stayed for one night. We had one of the refurbished rooms and the bedroom was very good and well equipped. The room even had a fan, which was welcome as the weather was very hot. The room and ensuite were spotlessly clean but the ensuite was not designed very well because you had to climb over a very high... More
