Having given up hope of finding a post 3pm Sunday roast we fell into the Market Tavern and was greeted with a warm friendly welcome, a full Sunday menu and a great selection of beers. The brisket was beautifully tender and the pork belly juicy and succulent. Both were generous portions and the service was swift. A great find.

Have stayed here before so chose to stay here again. Has had quite an upgrade in the bar, restaurant and toilets, which were all immaculate. Stayed in room 3 at the front of the Tavern. A twin en-suite room, with lots of storage if you were staying for some time. The room was well presented with very comfortable beds and...

Stayed at a place across the street but they recommended this place for dinner. Enjoyed it quite a bit. Server was admittedly new, but did a great job anyway (and learned that Brandy Alexander is a drink, not a cake) :) All in all, definitely recommended.

A good value old pub cum hotel in the centre of town;exactly what you might expect to find. Our room (1) on the first floor was clean, fully kitted out,and quiet given its position. The bathroom had a fairly poor shower, and the toilet was rather noisy, but not unacceptably so. The welcome was friendly, with advice on parking and on what to do;it...

Stumbled upon this place when staying in the nearby White Swan. Discovered they did food so - unsure where else to go - we gave it a try. It was excellent. Lovely fish and chips, great beer, staff were friendly and everything came out quickly despite it being quite busy. Highly recommended!

Many pubs only do Sunday lunch menus on a Sunday, luckily the Market Tavern does their full menu alongside a Sunday roast. We shared the Northumbrian platter, my husband thought he would need extra bread, how wrong he was! Nettle cheese, chutney, chicken wings, battered fish, smoked salmon, tasty sausage, belly pork meat terrine, mead baked ham and crusty bread!...

Lovely friendly place. Lovely food not too expensive. Allowed dogs into bar area but at back tables felt more like being in a restaurant than a bar. Excellent service best put for food in Alnwick. Very large portions all fresh and well cooked

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The Market Tavern was taken over, refurbished and reopened in March 2016. A family friendly run pub restaurant and lodge with a smart, fun atmosphere serving a wide variety of lagers, real ales, spirits and soft drinks. A tremendous wine list accompanies the eclectic food offering. Great food in the bar and Steakhouse. Live bands play some Friday evenings, and it's very popular with the locals and visitors to the area. We are located in the centre of town and a two minute walk to the castle and gardens. The Steakhouse has opened to rave reviews, serving amazing Northumbrian steaks, and local dishes. ... more   less
