Lovely location, very quiet. Staff were fantastic & the food is great. If you want a lovely friendly location that is quiet this is your place. It is not high end however I love the quirky site that offers the basics with a smile. I would definitely come again, 2 mins from Alnwick castle and only £22 a night!

Went for lunch with my son. We had the carvery. Beautiful generous slices of beef, huge Yorkshire pudding, roast and boiled potatoes, veg and gravy. Helpful and polite staff. Drinks were put on meal bill and all paid for at the end. Didn't feel rushed and offered a choice of desserts. Nothing is too much trouble for the hosts and...

Been going to the shepherds rest now regularly on a Sunday for lunch with my husband and daughter who is now 7 months old. All the staff are lovely, great food and service! Would highly recommend!! The beer garden is lovely in the summer, in the winter we tend to sit inside in front of the coal fire (I actually...

We visited the Shepherds Rest this past Saturday and were given use of the conservatory as a function for 20 people. The atmosphere in the pub was warm and friendly, with the staff being simply wonderful. There was a welcoming atmosphere as soon as we arrived and the staff were incredibly considerate towards my elderly grandmother. I would highly recommend...

I went to this pub for the first time today. Just me and my daughter who has autism. The staff were great. They helped me with the carvery by carrying and filling my daughter's plate for her. The carver was also very friendly and spoke to my daughter (which a lot of people don't when they hear she has autism)...

Friends and family gathered for my birthday party. Delicious buffet supplied and the staff could not have been more helpful, offering to go the extra mile for us when required. Ages ranged from 18 months to 70 years and we all had a brilliant evening. My only disappointment was 'the rain'! We couldn't use the garden and I had planned...

Very friendly and welcoming staff. Small/basic site but fantastic base for exploring Northumberland. We stayed for 5 nights and would definitely stay here again - owners are sympathetically improving the facilities whilst retaining the old world charm/character of the pub. Pub is both child and dog friendly and the food is superb - a welcome reward after the walk back...
