We have just returned from a lovely weekend at the Coach House. Service was excellent from the minute we got there. The food was amazing ranging from lovely cooked breakfasts (recommend the breakfast Hash) to superb evening meals (Ham Hock starter and Beef Rib main were both excellent) with the most unusual and tasty Apple Crumble. Bar was well stocked and was nice to be able to get a decent pint after our walk. Room was good with comfy bed and an excellent shower and it was so quiet. Good location in a lovely part of the world close to Bishops Castle and around 30 minutes from Shrewsbury. Was nice to be able to take our Labrador dog with us and not worry about offending people as we ate in a separate area. Can’t wait to return

Dear Andyb4444, Thanks for taking the time to write a review for us and such a positive one as well. We are all very grateful for your generous comments and are really happy that you loved what we do so much. Your visit was impeccably timed with the arrival of our new head chef Blair and he seems to have made quite the impression on you. His food is really inventive & yet comforting at the same time. We are very lucky to have found him and he will be made up to read this review as will our excellent Front of House team. We look forward to your next visit. All the very best, Sean & the Coach House team

I was planning a trip and searching for a good place to stay in Bishops Castle. I was expecting a good place but what I got is nothing short than amazing. The people, rooms, service, food, and atmosphere is beyond phenomenal. The thing I noticed about most rural B&Bs are that they end up being a place that you just come to sleep and grab a bite to eat. They are not usually places you look forward to stay in and not leave. When I planned the trip in the back of my mind I thought that its one night I will stay and leave. No need to worry myself if it gets bad 90% of these places are better in pictures than in real life. This place I have to say that the pictures do not do it justice.

The staff here are so nice and courteous and helpful they have gone above and beyond to make sure that everything was not perfect but much more. Ben, I have to say does it all. Was checking in guest, tending to their request, organizing other items in the B&B, and the Restraunt’s (both Bar & Restraunt).

The Chef is also very good the food they served is excellent. Both Dinner and breakfast were something not to be missed.

After one night of staying here do not want to leave. Unfortunately, I have other commitments and am not able to stay longer. Hopefully I will come back here and only here.

Dear Nasser665, I cannot thank you enough for such a glowing review. We are so glad that you had such a great time with us. Ben is indeed an incredible front of house manager and we are very lucky to have him. The same goes for our chef Harry who is so very talented but there is also an entire team of people working behind the scenes to make sure that everything is just so. We all work as a very tight team and every last one of us will be so proud of this review. We understand that you will be visiting again and we are very much looking forward to welcoming you back to Norbury so that we can pamper you once more. Very kindest regards, The Coach House team

We loved our stay at the Coach House. A really friendly welcome from the owners. The extra touches made it special. Tea and Coffee on arrival, home made biscuits in the room together with a wide variety of teas and coffees. There was a large selection of fruit at breakfast time as well as the usual options. The home cooked evening meal we had was excellent. Good luck to a really nice couple in this venture, you deserve it!

Stayed for two nights for easy access to a wedding in the village. Hotel is clean, well decorated and staff are friendly.
Room I stayed in was compact, large bed which took up a good portion of the room, but was in fact two singles clamped together. Bathroom was very compact and quite claustrophobic. Room, like the rest of the hotel was clean and well decorated.

My first night was without sleep due to a poorly positioned Security Light right above a small window in the door to the room, the window could be seen from any angle from the bed, and even with a thin curtain across the window, it was still like a bright light shining into the room. The staff were very accommodating on my next night and switched the light off.

Breakfast in the Coach House was uneventful, a small buffet which consisted of Fruit, which in my opinion did not look very appetising and some yogurts, and multipack cereal boxes. The first morning their was also muesli but this did not reappear on the second day.
No pastries whatsoever were offered on the Buffet, which I found very disappointing.
The cooked breakfast specialty was a Full Shropshire, this consisted of locally sourced products which were 1 Sausage, 1 Egg, 1 Rasher of Bacon, 1 Big Mushroom, 1 thin piece of Black Pudding and 6, yes 6 tomatoes..
Nice is you like a 3rd of your plate containing tomatoes.
The second day I had Scrambled Eggs on a Muffin with Salmon, much nicer than the Full Shropshire but not a great deal of Salmon.

Whilst staying I had an Irish Coffee, this arrived tepid and not very nice. My friends sampled the house wine and were again not impressed.

Overall, the Hotel is in a lovely location, and is ideal for exploring the Shropshire hills and villages, and would recommend a trip to Montgomery, Bishops Castle, and Church Stretton. In my opinion the hotel is overpriced, I paid £198 in total for 2 night B&B, when I feel a more appropriate price to pay would have been in the region of £120 to £130 for the 2 nights.

Would I stay again? No

Dear Scott, Thanks for taking the time to write us a review. We are sorry you didn't enjoy your stay more though. We try very hard to make sure our guests are happy but it seems that perhaps we never would have managed this with you. It feels like you were just in the wrong place. Obviously everybody is entitled to their opinion but as reviews like yours can negatively effect our business then please allow me to counter some of your statements which I think are a little unfair. Your room was not compact. It is actually quite a large and airy room. As advertised it has two single beds which can be made up as a superking double bed which is then 7ft wide. The beds zip and link together and then a further mattress topper is placed on top for further comfort. We are sorry that the light outside caused you any inconvenience. I am glad that you noted that as soon as you told us about it we rectified the problem. It is not a security light but exists so that you can find your way to its door in the dark, something which many guests appreciate. If you had told me the first night I could have turned it off for you as I was still in the bar for a while after you had gone to bed. As the chef I am especially disappointed that you didn't enjoy our breakfast. Our "small" buffet on both mornings you were here included the following: home made granola, muesli, a variety of packet cereals, Village Dairy yoghurts from Wales both fruit and natural flavours, a fresh fruit plate including oranges, grapefruits, blueberries, raspberries, melon, pineapple, strawberries, redcurrant; several fruit compotes (apple & cinnamon, peach & vanilla, gooseberry & elderflower, plum & star anise), local award winning AppleTeme apple juice, fresh orange juice, tomato juice. Our homemade sourdough bread and a selection of my wifes homemade marmalades and jams were also available to supplement both the buffet and the cooked breakfasts. The cooked breakfast menu has over 5 dishes on it and I was also running a breakfast special of French toast, crispy bacon and maple syrup on the weekend that you stayed. Your Full Shropshire did contain 6 tomatoes but it is worth noting that they were 6 x locally grown cherry tomatoes on the vine which had been slow roasted to concentrate their already excellent flavour. They are absolutely delicious at this time of year and although they are more expensive we serve them as we think they taste the best. They are not large and they certainly did not take up 1/3 of the plate. If you had wanted an extra sausage, rasher of bacon, piece of black pudding, egg, mushroom or any thing else (baked beans, spinach) you only had to ask and we would have been happy to give it to you. We are not trying to skimp on ingredients, most people find it enough to get through what we do serve. I find it sad that you would choose not to let us know personally and to give us the opportunity to make you happy but would rather tell us everything is fine until you get home and then write a negative review. But that appears to be the world we live in now. The same goes for the Irish Coffee. I made it for you and you gave me the impression that everything was absolutely fine with it. I would have gladly made you another if Id known you weren't happy with it. We want our guests to be happy. It means everything to us. As for your friends glass of house wine the same goes. If that wine was not to his liking he could have tried any one of the 8 wines we do by the glass. I had an enormous conversation with him about wine, I clearly remember him telling me that his favourite wine was Yellow Tail. In fact I even got my wife Lexi (who is a qualified wine maker) to come up and see him the next day to discuss wine with him as he had several questions regarding his home brew. Its hard to know how much harder we could have tried. Im sorry this doesn't appear to have been enough but as I said, I just don't think we were the right place for you. Fortunately, as our other reviews hopefully demonstrate, our other customers feel quite different.

Spend two nights over the last bank holiday and disappointed with food on our second visit. Rooms still clean and comfy. Lack of staff gave us a long wait on the first evening for our meal. Starter of asparagus and hollandaise - nothing else, no garnish, no bread offered, £7.95! My husband ordered the lamb which although asked how he would like it was not as requested and very pink. Inedible! Very unattractively presented - both meals. Everything on the plate looked like it had fallen out with its accompaniments! Breakfast - waited an hour for a standard English breakfast! I know it was a weekend break but that was too long. Two small pieces of the special - they talk of it as if it's something precious! - of sourdough and no offer or more which any b&bs does without a second thought. Second day I was actually served one mushroom! I laughed and asked the waitress if they had run out of mushrooms!! She said she'd tell the kitchen. No apology and no excuse offered! Another place might have said there was no mushrooms left to save enbarrassment and offer something else! Not the Coach House! Disappointed with the food - definitely!!

We spent one evening at The Coach House and had two rooms in the annexed. The rooms were beautifully decorated and spotlessly clean. We had pre-booked the evening meal, which was delicious and accommodated my dietary requirements. The breakfast was equally good, making the most of local produce. The owners Lexi and Sean were very charming and helpful and they clearly have brought life back to the old inn that was here before. The village was very peaceful and perfectly located for walking in either the Stiperstones or the Long Mynd. We did a lovely walk from The Coach House itself. Highly recommended.

Myself and my family stayed at The Coach House as our over night accommodation for my brother’s nearby wedding reception. The staff were extremely friendly and warm with their welcoming. The hotel had that lovely old-worldly feel, with a beautiful church across the road (like something off of a biscuit tin). Furthermore, the staff were very attentive at breakfast and the cooked food was delicious, and the overall experience was far superior to most hotel/B&B breakfasts. Thanks for a great stay.

Our second visit to the Coach House. This time we took our dog.
First time was with 10 friends over New Year. This time we took a room in the annex.

Ben was again extremely attentive, nothing was too much trouble. The hotel is genuinely dog friendly from the welcome basket provided to a discrete area to sit in the restaurant.
Room was very good. The food was excellent as usual. The breakfast is the best around and the evening food was superb.
Ben and his team are excellent and the service is fantastic.
We will be back again soon.

Thanks for taking the time to write us a review. We are sorry that you ended up in one of the rooms with a more compact bathroom. It is always a challenge when large groups book as your group leader would have decided on the room allocation, not us. We did have 2 other rooms available which had much bigger bathrooms and may have been more suitable for you. We are sorry that the water wasnt as hot as you may have liked. I believe that Ben came to your room and demonstrated that you may need to leave it running for a little longer in order to get the hot water through. It is such a large building and the water has a long way to travel. I hope that these two minor issues did not dull the enjoyment of this long New Years weekend and that you would come back and visit us again. Many thanks, Sean

We don't have a specific children's menu BUT we are more than happy to serve children's portions. Depending on the evening we may well be able to cook something particular for your children, please just phone ahead and ask and see what we are able to do. We always do our best to accomodate.
