Stayed here for 1 night with my partner. Upon arrival after a day at the park we were greeted in a friendly and welcoming manner. We were helped to check in to get our room number and key swiftly. Originally when booking we had booked the spa, however the did not inform us that it is closed on Tuesdays so they booked us in for the Monday and didn’t inform us of this so we missed out on that. Thankfully no charge was made. When arriving in the room we found Prosecco and a note wishing happy birthday as this was part if a birthday present. This was a nice touch. We stayed in the dreamy room which was clean and tidy and very nice in general. No complaints there. The main issue we found was with the secret garden restaurant. First off we expected it to be a bit more expensive than the usual restaurants but the prices were unbelievable. £19.80 for fish and chips is border like extortion. We ordered our food and once we had the bill we noticed we had been over charged. The pasta and cocktail my partner had were priced higher than on the menu. We spoke with the manager and he apologised and changed the price of the chicken pasta back to the menu priced and took responsibility for their mistake. However the price on the cocktail had not been changed. So once again called over the manger and complained. He informed us that they should be the price on the receipt and not the price on the menu so that’s what we have to pay. I said that it’s unacceptable as it’s advertised as one price and that’s what you legally have to sell it at. He admitted we were right and changed it but also told us if we order at the bars they will be the higher price. This came across condescending and rude which when spending as much money as we have on our stay you expect better service from the staff. In addition to the poor service in the Secret Garden restaurant the quality of food was very poor. The sauce for the pasta was too thick and was claggy which made it unpleasant. And the duck was slightly under done and the fat needed rendering down more. Also the portion was tiny. Two slices of duck and two small circles of potato with sauce and purée is not enough for the price paid. All in all a pleasant stay but service from staff in restaurants and when originally booking needs to be better as this put a bit of a downer on our stay. However the Crooked Spoon restaurant for breakfast was brilliant.…
Hotel was very nice and my kids loved the moon / spacey themed room. Hotel was clean and kept well. Beds were comfy and the kids also loved the bunk beds. We would return again. My only issue was the food in the secret garden was awful. The stacked burger was supposed to have cajun chicken and pulled pork, I had to search for the pulled pirk as there was hardly any on it and the chicken was a piece of boiled chicken with some cajun spread. Not was I expected for £20...very sub standard food! Also I know that beer in hotels is expensive but £5.95 for a becks, £6.60 for dark fruits and £3.70 for a caprisun is a joke
I am sorry for the hotel to have to suffer such a negative review which is purely for the Secret Garden restaurant but that is the only way perhaps they will do something about it. Menu : 2/10 - Prices when you check into the hotel and use their shortcut on your phone are X, then when you go into the restaurant and they are all around 20% higher. No excuse for this, and misleads people to the restaurant on false pretense. Meal Cost : 1/10 - 10oz rump steak with sauce is £35.75. 1 small chicken breast (sparrow size!) with 1 tomato, 1 mushroom and chips £21.45. Only ice cream desert - 3 scoops - £7.70 (minimum desert price, the rest are more!). For a family you are not going to walk out of here for less than £120-150 which in a cost of living crisis is appalling. Service : 1/10 - Drinks didn't turn up and were then wrong, 1/4 of meals presented were wrong, asked for bill off waiter with discount voucher who mumbled something about needing a manager and didn't know if they even had one.. wandered off and not to be seen again. Ended up self service for bill which guess what.. it was wrong again as they had charged for more meals than we had. Only 5 tables had people on as well, so being 'busy' was not an excuse either. Weirdly you can also order pizzas for your room that are cooked in the restaurant and yet not on the restaurant menu ? I have been hear before a year or two ago and it was lovely, and not crazy expensive, what on earth now happened ? Just stay away until they sort this mess out (hopefully). Menu prices in review below for you to judge yourself.. I fell so sorry for the hotel staff who clearly try to give the guests a good experience only to be let down by this in house disaster.…
We love visiting the Alton Towers hotel and going into Splash Landings. This time we stayed in the Alton Towers hotel. I felt our room was old and dated. The place looks like it could do with an upgrade. We went to the secret garden restaurant for our evening meal. The service was very slow and poor. The food was also very expensive. £19.00 for fish and chips. £30 for a steak. We did only pay £150 for a family of 4. This included the stay over. Access to the pirate bay part of the park and sea life. There was entertainment on at night and entry to Splash landings. I did feel this was a good deal. We will still go back again
Pirate weekend for half term - included a day in Mutany Bay part of the theme park and the. Splash landings the next day, bed and breakfast and a game of crazy golf Theme Park - was really good for the kids. Mine were probably a bit too old for the experience at 10 & 12 having experienced the ‘big’ rides but they got involved in the treasure hunt and had a few rides The staff were all great, all in Character and interacting with the kids - made me chuckle as they were funny and put in a lot of effort Lack of signage though to the pirate area and no maps! Also lack of signage for car parks - was going round in circles trying to find car park G. I found out we had to go back to get the car to get to the Rollercoaster Restaurant as you couldn’t get to it through the park and it was a 20mins walk - would have been nice to have been told this beforehand The hotel room was ok but the noise from other rooms and above was pretty annoying - thin walls. Also a lack of milk pots - could only make one cuppa! No hair conditioner or shower gel/bubble bath in the room - just 2 x shampoo and a little bar of soap. Was in moon room last time and that was much roomier/themed. A little scruffy and bog standard this time but functional - is defiantly worth the extra to upgrade the room. The bar area was a nightmare - we queues for ages and when finally serviced I asked for a Cabernet Sauvignon and the staff member just kept showing me a house wine and didn’t seem to have a clue what he was doing and couldn’t tel me what wine they did! When I I asked what was he said he didn’t know and so I said I’ll try the house red - to then be told they only had the tiny bit left in that bottle! There was a lack of staff - one girl serving on their own for ages, including a huge order, whilst the other 2 just ignored the massive queue There is a little games room which was good - apart from the little brats who were left unsupervised and constantly kicking and banging the machines. The two girls who were entertaining on the boat were amazing and we love the musical lifts! Secret garden - rated separately as we had dinner here which was not great but breakfast was good Splash-landings - really enjoyed it, food was well priced and it wasn’t overly busy. The outside was open which was good and we have a fab time. Shame we never got to go on the master blaster due to the queue times for rings and the ride itself Rated separately So overall it was a good pirate themed weekend…
We visited in the half term pirates package. Have been before around 4 years ago. The hotel is still great and the staff are fantastic - delighted to see the same friendly porter as 4 years ago who always has a little chat. We had one of the space themed rooms. The kids just love everything about it. The park itself wasn’t great this time compared to when we went on a CBeebies Xmas package, there were hardly any rides In the pirate area but my children did like the interactive trail. Restaurants - we had dinner in The Secret Garden, initially I thought it looked expensive and wasn’t expecting much, but the food was beautiful. I had the chicken topped linguine and other half had a burger, kids had pasta, all lovely. My only gripe is that whilst we paid £120+ for our meal, there was a large group in the bar/ship area that ordered in pizza! No kidding they had around 40 pizzas and sat there baking and eating their pizzas whilst everyone else shelled out £££’s for the on site restaurants. It’s not a bl@@dy campsite. I think the staff really should have challenged them on this but aside from the odd telling off about the vaping they were left to it. Breakfast in the Secret Garden was a good choice but a bit cold. The water park was great we really enjoyed it this time having struggled previously when the kids were younger. One of our children had an accident and the staff were again excellent. There is something magical about this place - the staff for one - but I’m still waiting my £5 deposit back too like the previous poster!…
This was a great deal that included Pirate Takeover, Bed and breakfast, golf and waterpark, we had a fantastic time, we used the park when we arrived after visiting reception to ask what to do, we parked in Express parking which was included and just by the park entrance. We had a good few hours in the park with shows, rides, treasure hunts going on, and the sea life was included too, staff were great and full of pirate character. We checked in at the hotel when we received a message, about 3pm, check-in was easy, at the entrance a pirate asked my daughter to press the doorbell which she thought funny when it talked to her. A £5 deposit is taken for room damage. TV on the wall in reception tells you what is on. Staff were very friendly and helpful Room was great with lots of Explorer character, beds comfy, ducks outside room (124) were great till they do a 5am wake up for you Tea, coffee and toiletries were included. We ate at the rollercoaster restaurant which was expensive but I've reviewed this separately. We did golf which was a fun hour. Entertainment was good, my daughter enjoyed the disco and competitions, then pirates did singing in the bar area too. Drinks were expensive but to be expected Breakfast was plentiful with lots of choice, our time slot ment we were seated on time I'd definitely recommend this break as wanted to stay at Alton Towers for a while but always been to pricey …
I've wanted to go to Alton Towers hotel for YEARS and we found a great half term deal this year. Previous reviews have said the entertainment wasn't as good as previous years... I thought it was just great for my 5 year old!! So I definitely want to return.if they reinstate anything previously done. We had just the best time. The drive up to the hotel was exciting and the walk into reception was cool. The decor is well thought out and interesting to look at and talk about with your kids. The automatic key cards were a great idea, my only niggle is these were £5 and I'm not sure why as this wasn't refunded on checkout when they were handed back in. The walk to the room was great, the carpets and decor were fab. We had an explorer room and just loved it. My daughter was so so so excited. The beds were very comfy and the addition of the giant polar bear was cute. Tea and coffee facilities were good and they had a fridge to put food/drink in. The hotels entertainment was great for a 5 year old and for us to chill and watch. There was a disco in another room later in the evening until 10 which my daughter enjoyed dancing in and she made some mini friends. The pirate takeover at the park was perfect for a few hours. The staff were great and the trail was fun to go around. The entertainment mermaid show was very good and again, my 5 year old was buzzin from it. The rollercoaster restaurant is expensive yes, but it was expected and not a shock. The experience of being in there outweighed the quality of food, which was average, but again not unexpected. You don't head to Alton Towers restaurant where your food flings around a track and expect the Ritz. Some reviews which talk about the quality, but I'm not entirely sure what they were expecting. The hotel breakfast was great and was included in the price. Just what you needed to start the day. Splash landings was really good. It was so enjoyable. The only negative experience was that of another parent: don't leave your towels on chairs to save them (there are messages for this). A lady did this and a staff member folded their towels and left them on the side leaving the table free. We sat to have a drink and she came over to us and started getting angry, wouldn't listen to us and was passive aggressive. My advice for splash landings would be to head there early and take a couple of 20p coins for lockers. We only had 1 and it wasn't big enough for the three of us and our stuff with not being able to take anything into the swimming area (there are nets and rocks to store towels). All in all, we will definitely come back. We had an absolutely brilliant couple of days. Thank you x…
We stayed in the Big Pyjama room as a special treat. We have been coming for the Pirate Takeover since 2016 and the offering has reduced greatly since then but the prices have rocketed. The hotel is still completely charming, spotless and welcoming. Everything is clean and works. Mick the greeter is still fabulous. Sad that the characterful reception desk with the kids steps has gone to be replaced by self check-in machines (which didn't work - they won't take Visa, you know the worldwide brand). You pay £5 for your key(s). The room was lovely, the teenagers enjoyed the theming and the beds were all super comfortable. We had tea making facilities (but no teaspoon). The evening entertainment was pleasant enough, with the nice singing by the pirate girls, bingo and a 5 minute long 'gameshow'. There used to be an evening live Panto in the state room, that's gone, it's a shame. We knew the evening food would be dreadful and a massive rip-off so we ordered food from Cheadle kebab house and nipped out to collect. Bar prices were shocking and the bar staff were slow and didn't have a clue (not their fault, no training, no managers around). The breakfast was disappointing. They deliberately only have one coffee machine working and it's wedged in a corner with the juice and water machine - why? Everyone wants a drink. The food was the absolute most basic they can get away with, the cheapest sausages and hash browns you've ever seen but it was plentiful and hot. I know they have outsourced the catering to Aramark who supply prisons and care homes, make of that what you will. The Arctic explorer rooms and Enchanted lodges weren't available to book this time, not sure why. The rooms are probably ready for a refresh but the foyer and theming is fine and full of character. Still love the giant chair. …
The good bits - the staff in hotel and park were brilliant. Engaging, polite and friendly and made a real effor, even with my two young children. The water park was also pretty good (when not busy). Also enjoyed the pirate panto! The bad bits. The price of food and drink is too much and needs to be addressed. Burger and chip meal for two adults and two kids was £34 but the burgers were so basic. Same for evening meal - £97 for four mains, two desserts and some drinks. I wouldn’t mind these prices if the food quality was good but it was so achingly average and just not worth it at all. When every single good or drink item has a premium added to the price, a two day stay like we had soon becomes insanely expensive. In short, I can’t recommend an overnight stay in good faith. I wouldn’t let anyone go without outlining just how poor the quality to price ratio is in terms of food and drink. …
