My husband and I stayed at the Cedar Tree Hotel many years ago and it was lovely. I am so sad to say how dreadful it now is. We stayed for two nights on 12 and 13 September. The room was awful. Curtains hanging off the walls. Awful divan bed. The bathroom had a terrible shower with a filthy carpet....

Mistake. After spending the evening in a nearby Pub/restaurant with family and friends and then an hour or so in the hotel bar went to our room to find a co-ax cable but no tv,the makings for tea and coffee etc but...

Had it not been 2230 when I arrived I would have kept on driving. The room smelled damp. Paper peeling. I don't like to think what the suspended ceiling was hiding! Carpet stained. Shower only dribbled. TV controller was not correct for the TV so didn't work. The night porter who showed me in clearly knew this because he switched...

Thas temperamental...

We decided to go to the cedar tree for Sunday lunch. We had heard it was popular so called ahead to book. We were given a time and arrived 5 mins before. We were asked our names and told to get drinks and our table would be ready. We did as asked and while waiting for drinks a couple came...

This was, without doubt, the best Sunday lunch we have ever tasted.Superbly cooked, well presented self service and plenty of it.Well done as we have called many times. Sadly the environment is lacking a cheerful air and has nothing to encourage a prolonged visit, one might say dark and depressive. The meal was superb but just lacks that something hotel wise.

Decided to go to the a Red Lion up the road-not much better but a bit cheaper for food... Average-poor pub grub but served real ale. The hotel is...

I have never stayed in a more grotty hotel than this from the damp to the out of date milk and biscuits in the room! The staff were rude when confronted about this as if it was funny and the asking price for the rooms is extortionate would not recommend this to my worst enemy, mouldy broken shower, dirty carpets...
