Lovely hotel ,comfy beds ,nice bar and restaurant ,but automated check in very impersonal as I need to be ask questions and no one around ,also no one to point u in the right direction to find your room ,no map in room to advise on how to get to the spa ,we just had to wander around and look for signs ,no spa menu in room to choose a treatment ,price list in spa reception was in VERY small print. Bar tender very helpful and pleasant.

My sister and I visited the Hogs Back spa on the ‘You, me, tea’ offer for our birthdays. Firstly, the Afternoon tea which we had on arrival was lovely. Really good selection of sandwiches and cakes. Rosé Prosecco was a nice treat too. Spa facilities were nice, good sized jacuzzi, small but functional sauna. Steam room was out of action on the day we attended and pool is a bit small/ odd shape but fine for relaxing in. Downside was several young kids being able to use pool/ spa at same time which is never as relaxing. We ended our visit with our treatments (one included in offer, one paid for extra) and had differing experiences. While the ladies were very friendly, my sister has a lovely relaxing massage but slightly rushed facial. While unfortunately both my massage and facial felt rushed and neither as relaxing as I would have liked. Also, there was considerable noise from the gym which is next to the treatment room I was in, and my sister could hear lots of folk chatting in the foyer area despite the signs asking for quiet. It doesn’t seem like the layout was well thought through unfortunately. Having spent just under £200 we will be trying other spas before we consider returning. Might be better midweek… but overall, just not quite worth the money on this visit.

Attended the hotel for an awards event. Friendly staff and comfy seats for the presentation. Delicious spread provided afterwards and the prosecco was nice and reasonably priced. Overall a lovely evening.

Despite Mr Hall's protestions about how well the parking system operates and how clearly sign posted it is, strangely Tripadvisor is full of disatisfied potential customers. The way it works is, if you enter the car park and leave more than 10 minutes later you get a fine from the ANPR if you haven't typed your number plate into a tablet at reception (where nobody checks if you are a customer, charging your car or farsically as claimed by the reception staff using it to park for Guildford - 8 miles away). The rationale for this is either a) to prevent people using the parking for free in a rural area with barely any parking restrictions on surrounding roads or b) to catch people out in the hope of fining them. Take your pick. My situation is that I used the Tesla Supercharger a number of times in a 2 week period (after dark) before realising the "restrictions". To Mr Hall's credit they did offer to cancel 1 of them - but that still leaves me several hundred pounds out of pocket were I to pay. I don't intend to. However, I will provide regular updates on Tripadvisor as to whether Civil Enforcement has any luck persuading me to pay. I'm guessing not - which wil at least be helpful for others caught in my predicament.

Dear Dougw44959. Thank you for taking the time to submit a review on Trip Advisor following your recent visits to our car park to charge your Tesla vehicle. I completely agree with you that there are a number of adverse reviews on Trip Advisor regarding the parking permit system in operation in the hotel's car park however, as a proportion of the number of guests and hotel visitors who use the car park on a day to day basis this is a relatively small number of 'dissatisfied customers.' There is no 'parking scam' and we do not need to check if guests using the car park are bone fide hotel customers if they register their cars correctly in the first instance as this only becomes a requirement if we are asked to assist them in getting their fines cancelled. The rationale for introducing the parking permit system has been more than justified in preventing people from using the car park to leave cars whilst they 'car share' on the daily commute in to Guildford where parking is very expensive and quite limited; discouraging local youths from parking in the car park during the evening and then throwing all their take-away boxes and wrappers out of the car window as well as discouraging drivers buying food and drink from the local garage down the road and then parking in our car park to rest up. I was able to assist you with getting one of your PCN's revoked as a gesture of goodwill as I accept that you might have missed the numerous signs around the car park advising guests to register their cars on your first visit but, there is a limit to the number of cancellations we are able to process in any month and once this is reached we are unable to authorise further cancellation with Civil Enforcement. The car park is illuminated at night and there are two billboard size signs immediately adjacent to the Tesla charging points advising you to register your vehicle whilst it is being charged as well as tags attached to every charging nozzle advising the same so the suggestion that you did not see the signs as it was dark does not hold up I am afraid. Furthermore, there is also information on the Tesla Owners Tongham Supercharger website advising all vehicle owners of the need to register their cars which is not a new concept and is relatively commonplace now in many privately owned car parks. I would strongly recommend that you do not ignore further requests for payment from Civil Enforcement as in my experience they will continue to pursue you and are known to take legal action where necessary to recover their charges charge but, this is of course your decision and I am very sorry that I cannot assist you any further on this occasion. Kind regards Tim

We were gifted a night in this hotel as a Christmas present. Having not had time away myself and my husband were very much looking forward to a night away with good food, gym and pool. Well I was less than impressed from the minute we arrived. Having booked the restaurant when we arrived I wanted to check that the booking was in the garden room as this hd the better menu, I had asked the receptionist if this was the right booking and if the menu was available. She was adamant that the only menu available was the budget menu until I asked her to check to which she came back and advised that both menus were available but we needed to take the menu with us to dinner to ensure we got the right one. I’m not sure if this was lack of knowledge or laziness. When checking in I wasn’t prompted to fill in the car parking on the displays and it was only once I did it and questioned it that she said I needed to change it to 2 days on the screen or I would be charged. After reading the reviews I was slightly concerned about the parking. We then set off to our room, it was extremely basic. The furniture had been battered and you could see they tried to fix it, the radiator made a banging sound the whole visit, the lamp on the dressing table didn’t work until my husband fixed it and the tv was also something that was pretty rubish. There was a kettle and a few teas and sachets of coffee. Would have been nice to have some bottled water. The bathroom hadn’t been cleaned to thoroughly as there was hairs on the toilet and around the edge of the bath. We got past all of this and decided that we would walk to the garage and grab some snacks, there is a really good wide range including subway, Greg’s, Starbucks and it’s an Asda. Once we came back it was time to go for a swim, towels were given but they were the size of a postage stamp. Going into the changing rooms there was no way to secure your belongings. It was only because my husband went back out to the man at the desk he handed over some padlocks (you would think that would be offered on your way in). The changing rooms where clean and tidy and so the pool area looked on initial arrival. We went in the steam room and sauna which were both nice and then decided to go I. The jacuzzi. Once in it we noticed a lot of what looked like sand on the bottom and once turned on the foam turned brown. That was our time to leave and go back to the room. Dinner time came and we headed to the restaurant, it was a bit more like a room with zero atmosphere, the music was awful and the staff were all young (nothing wrong with it but they seemed to not be about to much but chatting in there little cubby hole) drinks ordered and asked for a jug of water which didn’t arrive. Food ordered and as much as it tasted ok it wasn’t cooked how we asked and the table was never checked once we received our food. It was pricey for somewhere like this with the standards we saw. They also put on a standard 11% service charge which I wouldn’t mind paying ordinarily but there was no service. The bed was comfortable and the bath was a full size which was great. The towels again the size of a postage stamp and the biggest one was no bigger than an oversized hand towel. Next morning we get woken at 8am by the cleaners in the hallway hoovering and bashing the hoover against the door and the walls so this was a bit rubbish considering we had a late checkout and wanted a lay-in on a Saturday morning. We headed to breakfast which was probably the best bit of the whole stay, a wide selection of foods cooked nice and a great selection of tea and juice. Back to the room to get ready and sort stuff to leave and whilst getting ready there was a knock at the door and before I could even open my mouth to say one minute the lady was in our room, husband on the toilet and me half naked. I was far from impressed. On checkout I mentioned the two things from the morning as I was going to let the rest slide and the lady behind reception wasn’t bothered with no real apology. All in all this hotel was a shambles and not the night away we expected which was a real shame.

Dear Mummy88 Thank you for submitting a review on Trip Advisor following your recent stay at the hotel on a Wowcher promotion. Please accept my sincere apologies for our apparent failure to meet entirely with your expectations on this occasion since it is never our intention to have anyone leave the hotel feeling anything other than completely satisfied with the food, service and hospitality they have received. I am sorry for any confusion regarding your booking in the hotel's restaurant of which we only have one in which both the Garden Room a la carte and All Day Dining menus are available. We do not have a 'budget menu' nor do we require you to take a copy of the menu in to the restaurant with you as both menus are offer to guests when they are seated therefore I would suggest that the member of the reception team who was assisting you perhaps misunderstood what you were asking of them and was not just being 'lazy' When entering your vehicles registration details in to the hotel's parking permit system you do not need to be 'prompted' as the iPads on the reception desk have on screen instructions advising you what to do including an on screen option to enter the number of days of your stay. Please accept my apologies if you were disappointed with the overall standard and cleanliness of your accommodation however, I am not aware of any of our rooms that have 'battered' furniture and it is not clear from your comments what the issue was with the TV which made it 'rubbish' as all of our TV's are standard hotel flat screen TV's which we very rarely receive adverse feedback regarding. I am very sorry however for the apparent attention to detail oversights in the cleaning of your bathroom which I have referred to the hotel's housekeeping team for their further consideration. We do provide complimentary bottles of water in our superior rooms one of which we could have allocated to you for a small supplement. I am sorry if you were disappointed with the size of the sports towels in the leisure club and the fact that you had to request a padlock to use one of the lockers in the changing rooms but not all guests require these. The small amount of sand in the bottom of the Jacuzzi would have been from the filters which occasionally occurs after we have completed a backwash which is a routine cleaning procedure and is completely normal however, I have never had it reported previously that the foam in the Jacuzzi was brown so we will have to investigate this further as it would appear to have been isolated to time in which you were in the Jacuzzi as nothing has been reported since. I am very sorry if you were unhappy with the level of service and attentiveness received in the restaurant and I apologise for the fact that the team did not provide you with the jug of water you had requested or check back with you to ensure that had everything you needed. It is quite right that you should have declined the 11% service charge as I would not expect you to pay for a level of service you did not receive and I have discussed your concerns directly with the restaurant team to ensure that they understand the nature and importance of a 'discretionary' service charge. Please accept my apologies once again if you were inadvertently disturbed by the hotel's housekeeping team working in the corridor outside your room in the morning and for any inconvenience or embarrassment you may have been caused when they entered your room too promptly having initially knocked on the door to check if you were in the room. Please be assured that we do take all forms of constructive feedback very seriously indeed and all of your concerns have received my personal attention and I thank you for giving me the opportunity to respond to you personally. Kind regards Tim

WATCH OUT..... this hotels uses a private car parking company Civil Enforcement to enforce parking fines. I stayed for 19 minutes to get a coffee ended up costing me £60. Neither my wife or I saw any signs warning of the arrangements in the car park or the hotel. Of course there is no way the find can be stopped. Also the letter telling me arrived with only 2 days to act or the fine doubled. Surely the hotel management should kick this comoany out for using underhand methods.....or its says something about the hotel itself and the customer service it offers.

Dear X9155SYalanm Thank you for submitting a review on Trip Advisor following your recent brief visit to the hotel for a coffee. The reason you have received a parking penalty charge is that you did not enter your vehicle's registration details in any one of the four parking permit tablets situated just inside every entrance to the hotel. There are in fact fourteen individual signs situated around the perimeter of the car park, a large sign at the car park entrance and two further 'billboard size' signs within the car park itself advising all hotel users of the need to register their vehicles on arrival. There are also more signs inside the hotel in reception and at the entrance to the bar where you would have been served coffee. It is incorrect to state that the fine you have been issued with cannot be stopped as we are able to get fines cancelled if you contact the hotel directly with details of the PCN you have been issued and some form of proof that you used the hotel's facilities such as your receipt for the coffee you were served. I am very sorry for the apparent frustration this may have caused you however, the parking permit system does work well and we have hundreds of guests stay with us every week who have no issues with the system itself or the procedures we have put in place advising guests how to use it. Kind regards Tim

The hotel is the norm for a business type hotel. Decent food, does everything ok but doesn’t set the world on fire. I have stayed here a few times and never had a problem but things seems to have gone a bit down hill. The room I was put in had dirty pillow cases with makeup marks on them, the bedside shelves hadn’t been cleaned and both had sticky drink marks on them and the plug sockets next to the bed didn’t appear to be connected and were just for show. As it was late I didn’t tackle this immediately, used what pillows “appeared” to be clean and used a towel to give the sides a clean. When I did speak to reception in the morning the pillows were dealt quickly and all good. (Except for the bedside plug sockets which left the only operational one the other side of the room) But now I have received a parking fine!! I was entering my details on the iPad each day until reception said I didn’t need to. I even wrote my reg number on the authorisation for my card during my stay at check in for reference. But I have been fined for the last night with the parking company saying there is no record of my reg ever being entered, even though the fine was not for the other 3 days of my stay! Now after reading comments on here about the parking issues I followed the hotels comments and phoned them a few time in the hope that they would sort it out before I appealed or paid, but nobody seems to be able to answer a phone and I got stuck in a circuit of answer phones. So appeal I did and got nowhere even sending them a copy of my bill for the stay showing the duration of my stay. It isn’t rocket science to see that if I stayed for more than one day why am I only being fined for one and maybe I made a simple error with the iPad. There are lots of comments on here about the parking problems but clearly the hotel are choosing to ignore them. So when I go to book my team in next year. (4 rooms for 3 nights) I will probably be seeking another hotel in the area. Shame but The Hogsback Hotel parking has left me with bad impression for future bookings.

Dear TWWelwyn, Thank you for submitting a review on TripAdvisor following your most recent stay with us. Please accept my sincere apologies for the apparent oversight in our general housekeeping standards which are certainly not reflective of our usual standards of attention to detail and I am very sorry for any inconvenience this may have caused you. With regard to the bedside power sockets these are not 'just for show' and clearly there must have been an issue with them which, having subsequently reported this to a member of the hotel's reception team will have been investigated further by the hotel's maintenance team. With regard to having received a parking penalty notice, you do not need to enter your car registration on the parking iPad in Reception every day as there is an option on screen to enter the number of days of your stay when registering your vehicle. I am not sure from your comments who you appealed to since we are able to get parking penalty notices cancelled upon proof of having used the hotel's facilities which clearly, a copy of your bill for your stay would have satisfied so there is no reason for you to have to pay the charge. I am sorry if you experienced difficulty getting through to the hotel by phone but we do also have email, live chat on our website and a central reservations team who could have assisted you. If you would like to make contact with the hotel again and send us a copy of your PCN to res@farnhamhogsbackhotel.co.uk we should be able to get this cancelled for you. Please be assured that we do take all forms of constructive feedback very seriously indeed and I am very sorry that on this occasion we failed to meet entirely with your expectations however I sincerely hope that this will not deter you from using the hotel again in the future as you have stated as you have my personal assurance that we will do our utmost to ensure you are well looked after. Kind regards Tim

I stayed for 3 nights in room 206. Liked the location, although it could be a little noisy. The room was clean apart for the whole duration of my stay, it didn't get cleaned. I had to request clean towels and toiletries - staff super helpful. The staff are all friendly and can't do enough. Don't think I've experienced every member of staff this helpful before. I had room service (ordered at the bar as no phone in the room) Seabass was delicious. However, the Caesar salad was not a Caesar salad. Wrong lettuce, and the chicken was cold out the fridge. I would have preferred it cooked fresh and hot. Gym was great, and there were no queues. Didn't use the pool, so I can't comment. I would definitely stay here again. The staff make this hotel feel welcoming and should be acknowledged for their efforts. They are the reason I've given 5/5.

So we arrived at The Hogs Back hotel after reading all the reviews and I have to say let's start off with the positives: Staff were all great and friendly Coffee on the afternoon tea was too die for and the best coffee weve ever had... Swimming pool was good and sauna and jucuzzi were nice and hot Parking is simple and ipad is simple to add your details on Beds were really comfy, but not sure it's a kingsized bed as advertised on website seems more like a double to me.. OK now let's move on to the issues we had: We stayed in room 208 and the window in the room was pretty manky and also between the glass panes aswell, we chose not to really go anywhere near it, There was no phone in the room even though it was in the guest information book?? The bed side tables either side of the bed were very high and I nearly poked my eye out three times on the corner of them whilst lying on the pillow!! Maybe this should be looked at! The coffee at breakfast was the Worst coffee I've ever had in my entire life and I normally drink anything, one sip was all I managed, this is a dreadful shame as when had afternoon tea day before the coffee was the best I ever had So Best coffee of my entire life and also the worst on separate days... PLEASE use the coffee for your afternoon teas at breakfast!! Also at breakfast the Hashbrowns were very soggy and not nice, and I would also like to suggest a bin near the cereals as there was no where to put the rubbish of boxes after opening them.. But all in all a good stay we had a good time The hotel wasn't bad apart from the breakfast coffee!!! The hotel could of been amazing if all these things were sorted out and then would of been worth a five star review.
