Lovely hotel ,comfy beds ,nice bar and restaurant ,but automated check in very impersonal as I need to be ask questions and no one around ,also no one to point u in the right direction to find your room ,no map in room to advise on how to get to the spa ,we just had to wander around and look for signs ,no spa menu in room to choose a treatment ,price list in spa reception was in VERY small print. Bar tender very helpful and pleasant.
My sister and I visited the Hogs Back spa on the ‘You, me, tea’ offer for our birthdays. Firstly, the Afternoon tea which we had on arrival was lovely. Really good selection of sandwiches and cakes. Rosé Prosecco was a nice treat too. Spa facilities were nice, good sized jacuzzi, small but functional sauna. Steam room was out of action on the day we attended and pool is a bit small/ odd shape but fine for relaxing in. Downside was several young kids being able to use pool/ spa at same time which is never as relaxing. We ended our visit with our treatments (one included in offer, one paid for extra) and had differing experiences. While the ladies were very friendly, my sister has a lovely relaxing massage but slightly rushed facial. While unfortunately both my massage and facial felt rushed and neither as relaxing as I would have liked. Also, there was considerable noise from the gym which is next to the treatment room I was in, and my sister could hear lots of folk chatting in the foyer area despite the signs asking for quiet. It doesn’t seem like the layout was well thought through unfortunately. Having spent just under £200 we will be trying other spas before we consider returning. Might be better midweek… but overall, just not quite worth the money on this visit.…
Attended the hotel for an awards event. Friendly staff and comfy seats for the presentation. Delicious spread provided afterwards and the prosecco was nice and reasonably priced. Overall a lovely evening.
Staff freindly, restuarant good value with nice choice but.... they do not cleen rooms unless you request it. Even puttting clean my room sign out is ignored. Reception staff said read the letter in the room. No letter, just the normal plese reeuse your towels sign.
Despite Mr Hall's protestions about how well the parking system operates and how clearly sign posted it is, strangely Tripadvisor is full of disatisfied potential customers. The way it works is, if you enter the car park and leave more than 10 minutes later you get a fine from the ANPR if you haven't typed your number plate into a tablet at reception (where nobody checks if you are a customer, charging your car or farsically as claimed by the reception staff using it to park for Guildford - 8 miles away). The rationale for this is either a) to prevent people using the parking for free in a rural area with barely any parking restrictions on surrounding roads or b) to catch people out in the hope of fining them. Take your pick. My situation is that I used the Tesla Supercharger a number of times in a 2 week period (after dark) before realising the "restrictions". To Mr Hall's credit they did offer to cancel 1 of them - but that still leaves me several hundred pounds out of pocket were I to pay. I don't intend to. However, I will provide regular updates on Tripadvisor as to whether Civil Enforcement has any luck persuading me to pay. I'm guessing not - which wil at least be helpful for others caught in my predicament.…
We were gifted a night in this hotel as a Christmas present. Having not had time away myself and my husband were very much looking forward to a night away with good food, gym and pool. Well I was less than impressed from the minute we arrived. Having booked the restaurant when we arrived I wanted to check that the booking was in the garden room as this hd the better menu, I had asked the receptionist if this was the right booking and if the menu was available. She was adamant that the only menu available was the budget menu until I asked her to check to which she came back and advised that both menus were available but we needed to take the menu with us to dinner to ensure we got the right one. I’m not sure if this was lack of knowledge or laziness. When checking in I wasn’t prompted to fill in the car parking on the displays and it was only once I did it and questioned it that she said I needed to change it to 2 days on the screen or I would be charged. After reading the reviews I was slightly concerned about the parking. We then set off to our room, it was extremely basic. The furniture had been battered and you could see they tried to fix it, the radiator made a banging sound the whole visit, the lamp on the dressing table didn’t work until my husband fixed it and the tv was also something that was pretty rubish. There was a kettle and a few teas and sachets of coffee. Would have been nice to have some bottled water. The bathroom hadn’t been cleaned to thoroughly as there was hairs on the toilet and around the edge of the bath. We got past all of this and decided that we would walk to the garage and grab some snacks, there is a really good wide range including subway, Greg’s, Starbucks and it’s an Asda. Once we came back it was time to go for a swim, towels were given but they were the size of a postage stamp. Going into the changing rooms there was no way to secure your belongings. It was only because my husband went back out to the man at the desk he handed over some padlocks (you would think that would be offered on your way in). The changing rooms where clean and tidy and so the pool area looked on initial arrival. We went in the steam room and sauna which were both nice and then decided to go I. The jacuzzi. Once in it we noticed a lot of what looked like sand on the bottom and once turned on the foam turned brown. That was our time to leave and go back to the room. Dinner time came and we headed to the restaurant, it was a bit more like a room with zero atmosphere, the music was awful and the staff were all young (nothing wrong with it but they seemed to not be about to much but chatting in there little cubby hole) drinks ordered and asked for a jug of water which didn’t arrive. Food ordered and as much as it tasted ok it wasn’t cooked how we asked and the table was never checked once we received our food. It was pricey for somewhere like this with the standards we saw. They also put on a standard 11% service charge which I wouldn’t mind paying ordinarily but there was no service. The bed was comfortable and the bath was a full size which was great. The towels again the size of a postage stamp and the biggest one was no bigger than an oversized hand towel. Next morning we get woken at 8am by the cleaners in the hallway hoovering and bashing the hoover against the door and the walls so this was a bit rubbish considering we had a late checkout and wanted a lay-in on a Saturday morning. We headed to breakfast which was probably the best bit of the whole stay, a wide selection of foods cooked nice and a great selection of tea and juice. Back to the room to get ready and sort stuff to leave and whilst getting ready there was a knock at the door and before I could even open my mouth to say one minute the lady was in our room, husband on the toilet and me half naked. I was far from impressed. On checkout I mentioned the two things from the morning as I was going to let the rest slide and the lady behind reception wasn’t bothered with no real apology. All in all this hotel was a shambles and not the night away we expected which was a real shame.…
WATCH OUT..... this hotels uses a private car parking company Civil Enforcement to enforce parking fines. I stayed for 19 minutes to get a coffee ended up costing me £60. Neither my wife or I saw any signs warning of the arrangements in the car park or the hotel. Of course there is no way the find can be stopped. Also the letter telling me arrived with only 2 days to act or the fine doubled. Surely the hotel management should kick this comoany out for using underhand methods.....or its says something about the hotel itself and the customer service it offers.
The hotel is the norm for a business type hotel. Decent food, does everything ok but doesn’t set the world on fire. I have stayed here a few times and never had a problem but things seems to have gone a bit down hill. The room I was put in had dirty pillow cases with makeup marks on them, the bedside shelves hadn’t been cleaned and both had sticky drink marks on them and the plug sockets next to the bed didn’t appear to be connected and were just for show. As it was late I didn’t tackle this immediately, used what pillows “appeared” to be clean and used a towel to give the sides a clean. When I did speak to reception in the morning the pillows were dealt quickly and all good. (Except for the bedside plug sockets which left the only operational one the other side of the room) But now I have received a parking fine!! I was entering my details on the iPad each day until reception said I didn’t need to. I even wrote my reg number on the authorisation for my card during my stay at check in for reference. But I have been fined for the last night with the parking company saying there is no record of my reg ever being entered, even though the fine was not for the other 3 days of my stay! Now after reading comments on here about the parking issues I followed the hotels comments and phoned them a few time in the hope that they would sort it out before I appealed or paid, but nobody seems to be able to answer a phone and I got stuck in a circuit of answer phones. So appeal I did and got nowhere even sending them a copy of my bill for the stay showing the duration of my stay. It isn’t rocket science to see that if I stayed for more than one day why am I only being fined for one and maybe I made a simple error with the iPad. There are lots of comments on here about the parking problems but clearly the hotel are choosing to ignore them. So when I go to book my team in next year. (4 rooms for 3 nights) I will probably be seeking another hotel in the area. Shame but The Hogsback Hotel parking has left me with bad impression for future bookings.…
I stayed for 3 nights in room 206. Liked the location, although it could be a little noisy. The room was clean apart for the whole duration of my stay, it didn't get cleaned. I had to request clean towels and toiletries - staff super helpful. The staff are all friendly and can't do enough. Don't think I've experienced every member of staff this helpful before. I had room service (ordered at the bar as no phone in the room) Seabass was delicious. However, the Caesar salad was not a Caesar salad. Wrong lettuce, and the chicken was cold out the fridge. I would have preferred it cooked fresh and hot. Gym was great, and there were no queues. Didn't use the pool, so I can't comment. I would definitely stay here again. The staff make this hotel feel welcoming and should be acknowledged for their efforts. They are the reason I've given 5/5. …
So we arrived at The Hogs Back hotel after reading all the reviews and I have to say let's start off with the positives: Staff were all great and friendly Coffee on the afternoon tea was too die for and the best coffee weve ever had... Swimming pool was good and sauna and jucuzzi were nice and hot Parking is simple and ipad is simple to add your details on Beds were really comfy, but not sure it's a kingsized bed as advertised on website seems more like a double to me.. OK now let's move on to the issues we had: We stayed in room 208 and the window in the room was pretty manky and also between the glass panes aswell, we chose not to really go anywhere near it, There was no phone in the room even though it was in the guest information book?? The bed side tables either side of the bed were very high and I nearly poked my eye out three times on the corner of them whilst lying on the pillow!! Maybe this should be looked at! The coffee at breakfast was the Worst coffee I've ever had in my entire life and I normally drink anything, one sip was all I managed, this is a dreadful shame as when had afternoon tea day before the coffee was the best I ever had So Best coffee of my entire life and also the worst on separate days... PLEASE use the coffee for your afternoon teas at breakfast!! Also at breakfast the Hashbrowns were very soggy and not nice, and I would also like to suggest a bin near the cereals as there was no where to put the rubbish of boxes after opening them.. But all in all a good stay we had a good time The hotel wasn't bad apart from the breakfast coffee!!! The hotel could of been amazing if all these things were sorted out and then would of been worth a five star review.…
