Pleasant, old pub which is has a small, attractive bar area and restaurant. We sat and ate in the bar although the menu is the same for both. Good choice, specials, classics (burger, fish and chips) and fish and meat mains. Pleasant, friendly service, very prompt after ordering. I enjoyed the food and the general atmosphere is very relaxed. The...

I normally stay in a standard corporate hotel when I visit this part of the country, however this beats a spartan generic room hands down. They have some nice ales and good food, and the room was the quirky kind you would expect in a property of this age. The staff were very welcoming and I will definitely be staying...

After an hour of walking along the Box Hill Hike (also recommended) we popped in here for a well deserved beer and a bit of fortification. He went for the pie which, judging by the noises he was making, was very good. I, not wanting a big meal (we had another 6 miles to go on the hike) opted for...

Stayed here on a short break, my wife and I had decided to visit Denbies Wine Estate for a tour and rather than rush home we decide to stay overnight. I chose this place due to its location and reviews. Excellent service and breakfast. Staff wonderful, food wonderful with a great local atmosphere. We also had dinner here which again...

Ancient Inn with individual rooms - very characterful! Off the main road, but easily accessed. Pub area is comfortable "proper" pub with two roaring log fires, Range of Brakespears beer well kept. Food can be taken in the bar or restaurant. Excellent food - freshly cooked: breakfast was also excellent. Room well equipped with fluffy duvet and very comfortable bed....

Thank you for taking the time to review our pub. I'm glad you enjoyed the breakfast, my personal favourite is the smoked kippers with poached eggs! Iain

Had a lovely walk starting and ending at the Running Horses. Lunch was much needed and we were warmly welcomed and served by Ian. Our starters - fish cakes with poached egg and hollandaise, devilled crab and cheese soufflé were all beautifully cooked, tasty and well presented. Mains were roast beef and yorkies, roast spuds and veg. Oh my word....

Overnight stay to celebrate the wife's birthday and to break a weekend of driving around the Surrey hills. The room (Sandown) was very cosy and well kitted out with kettle, coffee machine, TV and black out blinds. The bed was really comfortable with a mattress topper, feather quilt and pillows. My only criticism would be that the bedside lighting was...

Stopped off halfway through a jaunt in the hills of Surrey. Two pies and two roast beef between us, roast was very good and a big thumbs up on the pie. Worth a stop off visit for Sunday dinner and a pint.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The Running Horses is a perfect country inn at the heart of picturesque Mickleham village in the Surrey hills. Step inside and you’ll discover one of the most charming places to eat and stay in Surrey. Dating back to the 16th century, it was once a coaching house. Back in those days, the inn’s clientele provided rich pickings for highwaymen. Thankfully, things are a little more peaceful these days, but some traditions live on. You’ll still find wonderful home-cooked British food, made with the freshest ingredients, accompanied by a wine list to compare with the top restaurants. The Running Horses has been family owned and run for the last fifteen years. And because we’re not part of a chain, the inn is full of character and individual touches. You’re guaranteed a warm welcome from the moment you enter the cosy bar with its roaring log fire. ... more   less
