The Bower House is in the historic market town of Shipston on Stour, at the northern edge of the Cotswolds, 10 miles from Stratford-upon-Avon. Our Grade II-listed building, originally built in 1731, has been painstakingly and lovingly restored. The ground floor is home to our restaurant and bar, and we have five beautiful and very comfortable en-suite bedrooms on the first and second floors.

Detailed Reviews
Loved our 2 nights at The Bower House. Friendly welcome from Paul and his staff. Good atmosphere and excellent, well-priced dinner in the restaurant. Our rooms had super comfortable beds and huge bathrooms with plenty of towels, lovely ILA products and masses of hot water that filled baths in double quick time. Thoughtful details like Roberts radios, jars of delicious freshly baked chocolate chip cookies and copies of Country Life made us wish we could have stayed longer.

As previous residents to Shipston, myself and my husband have known the bower since it’s conception and myself personally have known it since a long time before whilst it was “Sandra’s”.
We’ve visited many times for food and Paul and his team have always made us feel extremely welcome and provided fantastic food. Today however, whilst on what should have been a flying visit home we decided to stay. Once again The Bower House did not disappoint!
Our room, “The Pink Room” was stunning absolutely spotless and filled with original features, the most amazing bathroom with roll top bath, separate shower, and “his and his” (in our sense) sinks and an amazing, kingsize bed to name just a few.
The entire building has been lovingly restored with all the modern conveniences you’d expect without taking away the character of this historic town centre building.
To top of and already fantastic room; the mini bar in the room is full of fantastic cotswold spirits, beers and soft drinks and is very well priced - not like many hotels who charge through the nose just because.
If staying in Shipston I cannot recommend The Bower enough!

We really enjoyed our stay and are looking at when we could come again. The team are a credit to the hotel and should be seen as an example to other places.
In terms of location, I was a bit hesitant that it was further out of the popular villages - what a great benefit! I really liked the village and the walks in the local area.
It was quite hot when we were there but fans were provided in the room and a rare offering of a top sheet so we didn’t have the only option of a duvet. A really minor thing but VERY welcome.
Food was brilliant at dinner and breakfast. Really pleased my gluten free request wasn't an issue and I received great help in finding what I could eat on the menu and what could be possible with adaptations. Masks were worn by staff close by and tables were still well spaced.
Would definitely recommend.

This was truly one of the most beautiful rooms I’ve every stayed at. I wasn’t expecting too much since the Bower House only has a few rooms over the bar/restaurant but we figured the location would suit us for exploring the Cotswolds. The room was exceptional in every way. The bathrooms (there were two…one with the toilet and tub and the other with the shower) were gorgeous with dark marble and beautiful wallpapers. The bedroom was down a couple of stairs and had a huge bed, a small bar area, casement windows, and, again, sumptuous textiles and wallpaper. I would like to hire the person who decorated these rooms to do my house! We stayed in #3, by the way. The breakfasts were excellent but we were there over a weekend and unfortunately missed having lunches and dinners there because the restaurant is closed Sunday, Monday and Tuesday except for breakfast. Other than that, it was perfect!

We spent 4 nights here at the end of June and was not disappointed in anyway. The rooms were really nice with a huge bathroom, we ate in the restaurant on of our nights to celebrate a special big birthday and the food was amazing. Breakfast every morning was superb with a wonderful choice where you could certainly eat enough to get you right though the day. But what made the Bower house so special were the staff, everyone of them were so friendly, special mention to Grace what a star you are, a young lady who is going to go far in life.
Thank you all

What a lovely small hotel! We stayed for 2 nights in Room 5 and enjoyed breakfast and dinner in the beautiful restaurant.
First class service with knowledgeable and warm, professional staff who made you feel like your presence was welcome and they cared very much about your happiness.
Decor is beautiful. Wonderful large shower. Very comfortable bed. Immaculately clean with good attention to safety guidelines during Covid restrictions. All products locally sourced with environmental consideration. Fresh milk, fridge and good variety of local drinks in the mini bar. Freshly baked cookies in the room.
No negatives to list but the 5 rooms are accessed by stairs so may not be suit people with mobility restrictions.
I sincerely hope this lovely business survives the pandemics impact on hospitality businesses as it is very special.
Thank you.

We had two wonderful nights at The Bower House to celebrate our anniversary.
We booked room 4 - the blue room which is absolutely beautiful with a bathroom to die for!
From the moment we arrived we were made to feel “special” the staff were truly wonderful, always remembering what we had done/where we had been and took the time to have a few words with us without staying too long, the balance was just perfect!
Our room was spotlessly clean and made up for us each morning, the bed lovely and big with lots of pillows.
The huge bath filled up in no time with plenty of hot water throughout our stay (I had several baths!) and a fab powerful shower. I adored the bathroom and could have quite easily spent the whole weekend in there!
The food was delicious, I particularly enjoyed the avocado on toast for breakfast, I liked it so much I had it both mornings!
My husband had the cooked breakfast which was superb with excellent quality ingredients - I’m not a big cooked breakfast fan but having had a taste of his it was one of the best we’ve had.
Overall a delightful, buzzy place in a lovely small town, perfect relaxation!
Would also recommend the Cotswolds Gin Distillery Tour which is only 15 minutes away for an activity.

There is almost nothing to complain about in the bower house ! We had the blue room room number 4 on the top floor of the hotel, there is just a staircase so you have to carry the suitcase up two stairs. The room itself is enormous!! Estimated 50 m2 a very big bathroom with a bath and separate shower and toilet, two separate sinks, in the bedroom a very big bed witch was very comfortable! A fridge , a smart tv so you can log on your own Netflix account, a small minor was that there is no air conditioning and is was quit warm in the room . All in all when going to the cotswalds book this hotel !

This is an amazing little hotel that is very deserving of a 5-star rating. They truly understand how to give a 5-star experience to their patrons.
My wife and I stayed there for one night on our way from Scotland to London to fly home after a 2 week vacation in Scotland. Wow! What a way to end a vacation!
The rooms are very nicely appointed and comfortable, the food and service in the restaurant is spot on, and the entire staff goes above and beyond to make you feel special.
We had to leave for the airport in the morning before their restaurant opened but the chef offered to come in early to fix breakfast for us. We were very touched. Need I say more? I can’t recommend them highly enough.

We loved our stay at the Bower House - Paul and the rest of the staff were very friendly and welcoming. The room itself was beautiful and very comfortable with a gorgeous en-suite bathroom. Breakfast was amazing with lots of options on the menu. The food and cocktails in the restaurant were also awesome. Our very rainy weekend away was somewhat rescued by the lovely accommodation! Would certainly recommend to friends and family, and consider the price to be very reasonable for the very high quality of the stay.
