We only stayed one night at The George, for a specific local event, but we would definitely go back. The hotel is recently refurbished and the decor is lovely, very stylish. The room was very well equipped and very comfortable. The bathroom, particularly the shower was big. We ate at the hotel in the evening and were impressed that the... More

We found the George by chance when looking for a stopover travelling back from Scotland to the South Coast. So pleased we did. It looked fantastic on the web site and lived up to the expectations. Very welcoming staff and a comfortable stay. Dinner in the restaurant was excellent - especially the Scallops. Breakfast was comprehensive and high quality foods.... More

I stayed here at the start of November as we wanted a few days away. Having never been to the Cotswolds before we were blown away by the beauty of the area, particularly in autumn. The George Townhouse is a great base, not far to Stratford, Stow-on-the-World, Moreton-in-Marsh or Bourton-on-the-Water. Shipston itself is a pretty market town with some interesting... More

Fantastic hotel with great food, staff, and beautifully designed rooms. An absolute pleasure to stay here. I stay in hotels 2-3 nights per week and this is the best place I've stayed for a while. Highly recommended.

I normally write long reviews but with the George Town House it's a lot too simple. The rooms and restaurant are beautifully decorated and are very clean. The breakfast is excellent and the service was really friendly and professional. The location was perfect for Stratford Upon Avon and the Cotswolds. I can therefore recommend that the george town house is... More

Pros: - Quite central to Stratford Upon Avon, Cheltenham and Bourton-on-the-Water etc. - Well decorated, comfortable rooms - Delicious food Cons: - Nothing to do in the area, but certainly not the fault of the George Townhouse! We experienced a slight issue with our room but the man there was very understanding and accommodating (apologies, we never got your name!)... More

I had such a wonderful peaceful, tranquil, relaxing 3 night stay at The George Townhouse, whilst I explored The Cotswolds. The staff were so friendly, and 2 of ladies who served dinner/breakfast were so friendly, and even on the last day said we're going to miss you as had such lovely chats every morning. The bedroom, Room No. 15 on... More

Fairly recently re-furbed and a little bit "corporate" but still a very nice place. The food and portions were both extremely good and there was a wide range of dishes to suit every pocket and taste. The bar had "run out" of 2 of their 4 house reds - which is just bad planning and not really excusable if the... More

In summary - I'd heartily recommend this hotel, restaurant and bar. The rooms are quite pricey but then the decor, facilities, the bed, en-suite and the overall quality of the place justifies it. The whole establishment has undergone a huge refurbishment in the past 12 months and you can really tell. Not a scuff mark in sight on the tastefully... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The George has been around for as long as anyone can remember, but in early 2016 it was been treated to a huge makeover including all 15 en-suite bedrooms. Standing proudly in the centre of Shipston High Street, it still remains as the tallest building on the street at three and a half stories. We describe the look as modern yet sympathetic to it's late 18th century features with a feel of casual elegance about it. All the rooms are decorated to a high standard, offering a comfy place to stay. Their sophisticated simplicity gives them a luxurious feel. They all have en-suite bathrooms and breakfast is always included. The ground floor of the George Townhouse is spacious, and our extensive menu covers all meal times. Call in at the start of the day and enjoy a freshly cooked Full English breakfast in the parlour, or pop into our garden room to sample a sharing board and glass of wine over lunch. In the evening treat yourself to a steak in the pantry, sourced from Todenham Manor Farm just 4 miles away. ... more   less
