The cabins are all hand built in a traditional mountain style and feature lovely natural timbers inside and out. All cabin types are full of rustic mountain charm and have log fires except for two (which have gas heating) and three cabin types have spa baths. With wildlife at your doorstep, spectacular alpine scenery all around and a rustic mountain cabin to call home, you will really feel at one with nature when you make Cradle Mountain Highlanders your base for exploring Cradle Mountain National Park. Take a walk through ancient rainforests, scale snow-capped peaks or just curl up by the fire in your snug wooden cabin and let the peace of the forest surround you. Whether you are in the mood for self-indulgent comfort or a budget conscious family, there’s a cabin here to suit you.

We booked Myrtle, a Cradle Mountain Spa Cabin, it was perfect for us. The location of Highlanders cannot be beaten because it’s across the road from the visitors centre and just a 1 minute drive to Devils at Cradle (worth a visit), Peppers Cradle Mountain Lodge and Cradle Mountain Hotel (see separate review of Attitude Restaurant). The cabin was perfect with a large wet room, a spa bath big enough for two ;() log burning stove all set up ready to be lit and well equipped kitchen. The main room is open plan so you have the log burner and sofa at one end and a double bed at the other. The bed has an electric blanket should you need it but we stoked the fire and snuggled into a hugely comfortable bed - just bliss. We stayed mid Feb and the fire was needed as it can get nippy. A plentiful supply of logs is in the porch. All the team at Highlanders are friendly and helpful. We had a conversation with one of the service staff and she said she loved working there as everyone is so lovely which says everything really. Even one of the staff taking bookings for Devils @ Cradle said it was the best place to stay. On one of our days we decided on a lazy day in front of the fire then went to Devils @ Cradle in the evening. We saw a Pademelon in the area at the back of Myrtle on our first evening. Book early for the cabin you want.

We loved this little log cabin at Cradle Mountain. Although they are just across the road from the visitors centre, each cottage is very private with lovely bush surrounds. We stayed in Tallow Wood which has a queen size bed in the living area, and another queen size bed in a seperate bedroom with a seperate toilet and basin (very important!) The log fire was blazing when we checked in, with detailed instructions on ow to keep it going and light it again in the morning if necessary. The kitchen was well equipped, and there were lovely touches like some bath salts for the spa bath. I would definitely like to come back for a longer stay next time!

When we were there, the weather was terrible, luckily we booked this lovely cabin, we totally enjoyed the fire place, it was so lovely that the raining freezing weather turned into great experience. The cottage is spacious, and clean, you have full-equipped kitchen, we brought wine, bread and jam, could have brought eggs for the breakfast. The bathroom is big and warm, the water pressure is strong and nothing is better to have a hot shower after you walked in 4 degrees cold rain. We fell asleep hearing firing cracking sound and woke up discovering Wallabies jumping around the cabin....
The location is also very good, walking distance to the Information center, why is this important? Coz you need to get Shuttle bus tickets from there if you want to go to Cradle Mountain park, yes, by shuttle bus, or you can drive by yourself, but you MUST follow the shuttle bus, so in this case you can walk there to get on the shuttle bus and walk back. We also went to the other property in the area, seems we made the best choice by staying there.

Having stayed at a few holiday park cottages, this was an absolute delight. The cottage is well set out with plenty of room. Wood panelled walls and quality inclusions give the cottage a feeling of rustic luxury in a glorious setting. Furthermore there is a log fire with all the wood and firelighters one needed to keep nice and warm on a cold evening. Not surprisingly at this location, free wifi is limited in availability. Each cottage is set apart from others giving a feeling of privacy and the bush in which the cottages are set provides a home for a variety of local wildlife.

Two of us stayed for 2 nights in the Bushman's hut, and it was so cosy! Kitchen facilities were excellent, even had tinfoil and cling film if you needed it. No microwave, though. Lovely toiletries, handmade soap, and a great shower. There is plenty of wildlife around - don't miss out on an evening stroll - we saw pademelons in the trees and just outside our cabin.

we stayed here for 3 nights in feb. Our cottage was more suitable for a family instead of a couple but it was all they had available when booking so you do need to book ahead. we would have liked to have stayed in a couples cottage with open fire . Our family size cottage was clean abit dated and the heater was quite noisy so didn't use at night. It is great that you can just cross the road to get to the visitors centre and very close to drive for dinner at the options around town.

The cabins were wonderful. Rustic charm overflow. Bed gave us a good night's sleep
The oil heater worked a treat
Cooking facilities in the cabin were A1
Perfect location to the Visitors centre and shuttle bus.
Short drive from the Tassie Devil / Quoll park.
We were fore-warned, by the wonderful cheery pleasant staff, to buy food supplies before arriving at Cradle as there is only a small general store there which is a little pricey
Highly recommend

We spent 2 magical nights in Buttongrass Cottage early January and were absolutely delighted. The cabin was immaculately clean and very cosy for 2 people with everything we required for a peaceful, comfortable stay. What a treat to come home after a day on the mountain, enjoy a hot strong shower, put a log in the fire box and settle in for the night. Highlanders is a terrific set up - everything is so private but still walking distance to the Visitors Centre and gateway to Cradle Mountain. Wonderful!

We stayed in Woodsmoke Cottage, a gorgeously cosy wooden cottage perfect for a couple, with a comfortable queen bed and compact kitchen. The wood burning fireplace not only added to the atmosphere but heated the whole cottage through the night as well. The weather was wet and windy for our 2 night stay and it was hard to tear ourselves away from our cosy cottage .
The Park Visitor Centre and shuttle buses for all the hikes are just across the road. Peppers Cradle Mountain Lodge is 3 minutes drive and the Tavern there has good casual dining and log fireplaces. Reception at Highlanders also has a good selection of reasonably priced wine and beer to enjoy in your cabin.

We spent 4 nights at highlanders, with snow on the ground and in the air!
The cottage was rustic in appearance but very comfortable in practice. It was always nice and warm with the very efficient oil heater and the hot water for a bath, shower and washing up was always on tap.
The staff here are always super freindly and helpful.
We've stayed here before and will definitely stay here again.

Answer from Jie H
Dear Irene Thank you for your interest in staying with us at Highlanders. The Marsupial Studio cabins with Wood Fires, also have an electric wall heater. The Marsupial Studio Cabins, with Gas Log Fires just have the gas log fire. The Wood Fire Studios are really quite compact and are very warm with the fire going, The beds are right in the living area, but the electric heaters are a good backup. The Gas Log Fire Studios are also very cosy and the gas heaters are easy to use, Warm regards Lisa

May I have the names of the two cabins that are wheelchair-accessible? Thank you.
Answer from Jie H
The names of the two cabins are Brushtail and Ringtail. On the booking page of our website they classified as Marsupial gas fire cabins and on other booking portals they may be described as Open plan studio with gas fire. Hope this is not too confusing. Just ring us if you have any question.

Long way to the airports. You need to rent a car and drive several hours to either Hobart or launceston. They are a 10-12 minute walk to the park shuttle
