My partner and I were in need for a quick stop for breakfast. During our long drive travelling to the west side of Tasmania, we ran into this cute little cafe - Jackson's Emporium! I must say, what a fantastic way to start our adventure! We were greeted with smiles, like we were long time friends. We were sat in...

Staff extremely helpful with the menu, and Gluten Free options great. Food very tasty. It is a friendly atmosphere and they had a lovely warm fire as it was a rather cold day. I would recommend Jacksons when travelling through Hamilton.

The only reason we stoped in Hamilton was to change drivers but we noticed Jackson's Emporium and decided to check it out and we are glad we did. The owners couldn't be nicer, making sure the fire was stocked up on a chilly day. The coffee was excellent as was the food. We ended up also buying some preserves and...

I just had an enjoyable 4 nights at McCauley’s Cottage. it’s a lovely old home with warm fire places and so much character. I’m sure that this old home would have a story or 2 it could tell. It was great having Jackson Emporium almost next door, for some fine food, coffee and much more. you could eat there or...

The signs outside offer an amazing array of tempting delights to lure the weary traveller, but it is only once you step inside that the full glory of this truly "Derwent Valley" experience really astounds you. A menu to rival many city venues, an extensive range of coffee and teas. Everything as local as local could be. Then spend time...

Lunch, breakfast or dinner - Roger and Kim never fail to provide an excellent meal. The coffee is fantastic and the range of teas wonderful. The best Chai tea in Tasmania too.... Made from real tea! Or you can have a powdered form if you'd prefer. Just the best place to relax by the fire, check out local produce and...

Stopped here on a cold and wet day for a late lunch. Well what a great surprise. Excellent food to be had with home made ice cream as well..!! A fine array of locally made jams, spreads and chutneys as well. Inside you'll find memorabilia and a cosy warm fire for the cold day. Absolutely well worth the visit..!!

Thanks Phil, we really do appreciate you taking the time to tell others about our Jackson's Emporium. Social media recommendations and word of mouth advertising are particularly important to small businesses in Tasmania. Quite a few other customers have also expressed pleasant surprise at discovering Jackson's - which is great confirmation that we are on the right track with service,...

My wife and I had 2 lovely days(nights) at this fine establishment. Of course it begins with hot freshly baked bread and home made local fruit jams, followed by an evening in front of an open fire, and somewhere along the night we lost a bottle of fine red wine....

A fine old cottage turned into a café and very pleasantly done. Coffee was fine and the right drinkable temperature, we chose medium strength although in hindsight strong would have suited us better. The cheesecake was very tasty. We later had lunch there and that was quite acceptable.

A great place with local produce, great burgers, cakes, breakfast - even sitting her for a cuppa is a treat not to be missed! Nothing else other than to say don't drive past, do yourself a favour and experience this little hidden gem in Hamilton! On the way to Ouse - Lake St Clair in the Derwent Valley.

We love being a gem and are keen to be found, not hidden !! but signage is a difficult thing in this heritage town. We don't want to put up garish signs which will detract from the townscape so ours are deliberately low key. Pumphouse Point, national Tourism Award Winners, recommends that their customers stop here. Your comments will also...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
We began as a boutique accommodation business with McCauley's Cottage which is a a classy sandstone house circa 1846, set up with a fruit and veggie garden for comfortable self-catering. In 2000 we expanded our accommodation with additional self-catering and re-opened Jackson's Emporium (an 1856 sandstone shop) as a reception centre and tourism retail business, specialising in Derwent Valley products and visitor services. An Emporium is a 'centre of commerce' like a Department Store with different activities based under the one roof. We have called the Accommodation Department Hamilton Heritage Holiday Homes to give us a collective name for our groups of accommodation properties. We set about renovating, rebuilding and planting fruit trees and a vegetable garden. Now our brand new commercial kitchen is licensed for food production of all sorts and we are operating a vertically integrated garden-to-plate-and-package cafe and delicatessen. The theme of The Cafe at Jackson's is healthy local food. All recipes are low sugar and low salt, all of our cakes are made on the premises and gluten free. Mulberries are one of our specialties. The black English mulberry is one of the finest fruits grown in Tasmania. It's rare because it's slow growing and difficult to transport. During the three month season we sell punnets of fresh fruit, we make jam, ice cream and sauce. Customers in the cafe love the mulberry jam on their scones .... The Mulberry Chilli Sauce gets rave revues with wedges and hot dogs. We get fabulous feedback from customers about our food, our customer service and our great coffee, as well as our local cheeses and home made ice creams. We open late, 7 days a week (except Christmas Day and Good Friday) The property has lots of character. It offers several different and interesting spaces. The Parlour is great with a warm fire in winter. Customers love the outdoor tables when the sun shines, which it does quite often here. We are working on a long term plan to continue the renovation and expansion of this historic property. Currently underway is construction of new toilets with access for people in wheelchairs. Originally there was a cobblestoned courtyard, eventually this will be additional outdoor dining. ... more   less
