Amazing how this lovely restored mansion felt upon stepping in. Felt homely and full of character. But it was the friendly and superb hosting by Carol that lend that extra touch to the experience of staying here. Room is spacious, generous storage in the cabinets made with quality wood, coffee/tea making tray with biscuits, TV, etc. You will feel right...

Ormiston House is steeped in history and most of it is readily available on the net. Basically it was the family home of Fred Ormiston Henry who is credited as Mr Strahan having started trading there when it was no more than a fishing village. That's the good bit...unfortunately the property needs a bit of cash spent on bringing it...

Staying several nights in this grand old lady was wonderful. New owners are working hard to bring her back close to her glory days, and are delightful hosts to boot. Any old historically significant house will have its own foibles, but that adds to the charm. If you want pristine perfection then go for a 5 star cookie cutter hotel...

Now under new management so no cookies or muffins on offer any more! Breakfast is VERY limited and poor quality. All facilities are past their best. I would not recommend this place. Not worth the money.

The new owners had only taken over on 10th December 2016 and were away attending a family funeral when we were there. The housekeeper was keeping things going. The house is pretty and so should be the garden but clearly there had been no gardener for a while. And the house was a bit shabby indicating the old owners had...

Carolyn was there when we pulled up and gave us a warm and informative welcome. We had one of the large rooms which was very spacious and comfortable. The bed was comfortable and the ensuite clean. Breakfast was excellent, we were made very welcome and the parting gift of some freshly homemade cookies a lovely touch.

Unfortunately the weather during our 3 night stay was terrible, cold and wet, and this may have coloured our views but we found it difficult to get warm in our room, Christina, and had to have the reverse air con on full plus the electric fire and electric blankets. This is a very historic house and we are full of admiration...

We stayed in the F.O. Henry room which was the old master bedroom. Loved the old four poster bed and the huge bay windows. Warm greeting from our host Carolyn who helped us out with sightseeing, restaurant and even parking advice. Never occurred to me that you would pay for street parking in a small country town so the advice...

Visited Strahan for one night. Not much to do there except the boat tours and a local play that has been running for years. A tired town in springtime. Ormiston House was clearly well loved by the owner and had a small history of the house "museum" upstairs. Caroline obtained dinner reservations for us in town. The bed was not...

construction is always a noisy game and I guess our neighbours when we were restoring might have been disturbed a little too although we did minimize during the day. Spring has now turned into a very busy summer but I guess that is the case in any small village. thank you for taking the time to write wishing you a...
