This place could be a hidden gem if they would update the furniture. If you are used to Gold Crown resorts then this is not the place for you. But if you are not too fussy, then this place is not so bad. It is in a good location and it is a nice size. Some of the rooms are very large, but unfortunately have very dated furniture. The good thing was the unit was clean with the exception of some stains on the carpet and kitchen chairs.
The TV’s in the living room and Master bedroom are still tube TV’s. The living room is so large that the TV is kind of far from the couches, you may need glasses to read anything scrolling on the TV. There is no TV in second bedroom. I believe all units are 2 bedrooms, with both rooms having queen size beds. They were not the most comfortable beds and the pillows were lumpy or flat in both bedrooms. The Master bedroom is large with a large bathroom. There is plenty of storage space to unpack your things, bring hangers if you would like to hang your clothes, there was only about 4 hangers in each closet. It also had an ironing board and iron. If you would like a hair dryer you can get one at the main office. There was no tub in the master bedroom, just a shower stall….Although there was a Hot Tub, which we did not have access too, because it was behind locked doors, so I cannot comment on that. If you would like to have access to the Hot Tub, there is a fee for them to set it up for you. I believe it is $50 for the week. The 2nd bathroom did have a tub and the bathroom was much smaller. The kitchen was very large and well equipped. It did have a dishwasher, microwave, dishes, pots and pans, etc. There was a fairly full size washer and dryer there as well. They do supply you with a few amenities to get you started like dish detergent & paper towels. But they will not resupply you with anything, so you may want to bring extra toilet paper or paper towel etc. but there is a Wal-Mart about 7 miles away. You can exchange your linens or towels for fresh ones free of charge.
We did not have children with us so I do not know what kind of activities the resort offers for children. There was a VERY SMALL play area near the office. We went after Labor Day, so the pool was closed and I’m sure their activities were limited as well. There is a $25 fee to use a fitness facility and I’m not sure all the amenities, but they are off site and I think about a mile away or so??
There is a very nice golf course next door called Apple Valley Golf Course which is not affiliated with the resort. Our husbands played some golf and they said it was a very nice course. They do serve food up until 2:00pm. We did have lunch there the first day and it was OK. They sell things like like burgers, chicken sandwiches, salads, etc. There is a bar there as well. Not sure how late they stay open.
The roads are very hilly and windy in the area. I don’t really recommend driving in the dark if you don’t have to. There is not much nearby the resort. A GPS is almost necessary around here….we would have never found the places we wanted to get to without one or we would probably have to do A LOT of homework on map reading.
There is plenty to do in the surrounding area. Mt. Vernon is about 10 min. away where there is a lot of restaurants to choose from and shopping. We did go to a Mexican restaurant one evening there and it was very good. I believe it was called Mexican Fiesta. Other places we ate near the resort was Spearmans. It is not your typical looking restaurant from the outside because it is actually a gas station….but I guess it’s a local favorite and I can see why, the food was VERY good and so were their desserts! You get some good home cooking there! We also tried out the Bad Apple Pub and had some subs there which were very good. Also Kelly’s Pizza which was good too, if you like sweeter sauce on your pizza!
The things we did while vacationing at the resort was go to Amish Country about an hour away or more depending on which county you go to. One of the days we went was when there was a rib tasting festival in one of the towns and they had a stand that sold fresh hot Amish donuts, OMG they were the best donuts we ever had. If you are in town for any festivals, they are a mobile donut stand which only makes the Amish donuts. You MUST try one. It was called Amish Country Donuts.
We also stopped off at Heinis Cheese Chalet and sampled some cheese and went to an Amish Bakery which was walkable from Heinis called Kaufman’s Country Bakery.
On another day in Amish Country, we went to a couple of wineries and did some wine tasting. The 2 we went to were Breitenbach Wine Cellars Amish Winery and Silver Moon winery. Both had delicious wines. We also stopped off at the World’s largest Cuckoo Clock in Sugarcreek. We ate at Der Dutchman in Walnut Creek. The food was delicious. They offer a buffet meal or you can order from the menu. Their Broasted chicken was delicious!
On another day we went to see the Cleveland Indians play which it was about 2 hrs away. Before the game we were able to walk several blocks away from the stadium to see Lake Erie.
Another day was spent at Columbus Zoo which was about 1 hour to 1.5 hrs away. Well worth the visit.
Another day was spent at Mohican State Park about 30 min from the resort. We climbed the Fire Tower and went to the covered bridge and walked a trail to Lyon’s Falls. It was a beautiful walk but a BIG disappointment at the falls, where it was only trickling.
Another day the guys went to The Pro Football Hall of Fame which is about 1.5 hrs away, while we women went to Longaberger Basket which was about 1 hr away. We also went to see the World’s Largest basket in Dresdon, which was only about 10 min from Longabergers We did not get to see the one in Newark which is an actual building.
We had a great week in Ohio and Apple Valley was a good stomping ground. We did not spend much time at the resort so we were OK with its appearance. It’s too bad they haven’t invested in updated their furniture yet. I’m not sure if it’s in the works or if all the units looked like this one. Maybe the other ones weren't so bad? The resort is at a great location, very nice size and the staff was very friendly. So all in all not a bad place to stay.

I did however find the cleaning staff didnt do so well. We found beer bottle caps through out the condo dirty dishes in the cabinets we also paid for maid service but it was a waste of money we still had to strip beds do dishes ect. on check out day.

This was our second family trip to Apple Valley in Howard OH, my expectations were more than exceeded on this trip. It is no fancy resort by any means but if you are looking for a nice relaxing vacation this is the place to go! We only stayed for the weekend, we took our son to the Columbus Zoo (only a quick hour away) and did a little shopping before heading back to the resort. Overall I'd rate this vacation a 8.5 out of 10. Mount Vernon is a short drive away and they have plenty of restuarants and shops readily available. I recommend going to Allison's Finer Diner for breakfast, its definintely a bang for your buck!

First off, the GOLF COURSE at Apple Valley is flat-out fantastic and always has been. I think these reviews were written concerning what used to be call the Apple Valley Resort (time share operation beside the golf course) that went kaput in 2017 because the golf course is about a 5 out of 5 stars. The former time share cabins, now under new ownership, have been completely refurbished with new bedding, fixtures, furniture, etc. and the improvement is tremendous. My golf group did a stay and play in 2020 using the cabins and playing golf next door and it was great. We're definitely going back and I highly recommend this combo to any golfers that want to spend a couple days somewhere that doesn’t require any driving.

we traveled from SoCal to watch our son play in a college golf tournment; the only reason we would have come to Ohio.
I'll share that the surrounding areas are terrific - such lovely scenery and a zoo in Columbus that was awesome....and being with our son and his team was a real treat, so definitely the trip was worth it.
However, I wish we could have stayed in a 'real hotel' nearby.
The unit was not clean to our standards, things were broken or missing and the decor was absurd...I guess we could start with th slivers of soap, the cigarette butts in the bbq, the extraordinary number of bugs in the unit and items offered on the website, but not available.
The biggest disappointment was that the jaccuzzi in the unit was an additional fee of $50 - which was not disclosed nor available once we were told of the charge - they didn't have time to prepare and fill it. Right.
I suppose if you were coming with a posse of people and wanted to golf, it might be a good value...but you need a sense of humor to overlook the tacky surroundings.
I'd rather stay someone more well appointed - this place was difficult to find, poorly maintained and generally dusty and depressing.

After reading a half dozen reviews with only one positive, I was a little concerned. I had booked Apple Valley through RCI and initially wondered if I had done a good thing or not. Let me allay any fears one might have about Apple Valley. The resort (golf course, 32 semi-detached units, lake) is in a scenic setting. Deer, rabbit, and various other fauna can easily be seen by looking out of your window. And if you'd like to see more, take a pleasant drive in practically any direction. While the golf course is literally 300 steps from your unit, the lake is a three minute drive away. The units themselves are spacious, well taken care of and of greatest importance, clean. We found no bugs, dirt or faulty equipment. The staff was pleasant and helpful. In fact, as was recommended in the welcome folder, we took stock of the inventory that was in the unit, and found that an omelet pan and a pepper shaker were missing. In the time it took us to walk back to our unit, it had been delivered. They are that good. I noticed that someone felt the resort was too far from "civilization". Regarding this, a twelve minute drive (literally...we timed it) took us to restaurants and shopping in nearby Mt. Vernon. The golf course is beautiful. Mind you, this course is open to the public, so there are outings and golf team practices. But, for someone who was staying for the week, the people in the pro-shop were more than happy to tell me when the best time to play would be, and what the best prices were, something I happily took advantage of I think that one of the best pieces of advice I can offer, regarding a visit to Apple Valley, is to read the welcome folder. It will insure your success with everything from turning on the television (cable/ DVD/etc.) to adjusting the thermostat to washing your clothes. Not reading the folder only creates situations that could easily have been avoided. My biggest regret is that I don't live closer to this place. It definitely warrants a return visit.

This was a timeshare exchange selected because of its proximity to family.
We initially were assigned to a condo which did not have air conditioning or heat working (needed both every day due to seasonal temperatures). A maintenance man and the front desk suggested we use the gas fireplace for heat and they'd provide some portable fans for cooling. After a day of trying to make do, they agreed to move us to another unit. Everything there worked fine, even though the furnishings were more dated.
A reunion with kids, grandkids and great-grandkids worked exceptionally well, due to the large living room and kitchen, plus having two decks.
Overall, it was a great jumping-off place for visits with friends and trips to nearby Amish and historic sites.

Totally enjoyed this place. You get a 1400sf cabin, 2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, large kitchen and living room. Walking distance to the PGA golf course, out in the country away from everything. Both the staff at the resort and golf course were very helpful in all details. Any other activities you would need to drive to, as this is out in the country with no amenities, (shopping, restaurants, etc) very close. At Apple Valley, it is so quiet, it makes the birds chirping seem loud. You can hear the deer walk through the underbrush. The golf course was excellent, and despite the numerous trees, the course is cleaned daily.

This resort was selected because of a family get-together and my sister being an owner here. If you like "remote" destinations, you might enjoy it...my husband & I did not. Let me begin by saying when we checked into our cabin there were numerous bugs crawling on the floors. We checked in on Fri. and out on Mon. Yes we rented it for the entire week, but just couldnt make ourselves stay any longer. I think by Sun. my count for killing bugs was up to 40-something. Not my kind of resort. I dont check into a resort thinking I need to spray for bugs constantly:( The nearest place to shop is at least a 20min drive, so once you're out there you dont want to make numerous trips in & out of town. The cabin we stayed in was very "out-dated" in furnishings, the beds were extremely uncomfortable. If I were looking for "good" in the accommodations I'd have to say the size of the unit is nice, and the hot tub was a nice addition. If you like rustic, you might like this resort....we didn't and would not return.

First and most important is that it was clean. Based on previously reviews there were no surprises. The $25 fee to use the off site beaches, indoor and out door pools seem unnecessary. We loved the location and there were many things to do within an hours drive. The golf course is really nice and very reasonable.

We like Alison's Finer Diner in Mount Vernon. We like homecooking and they specialize in that. I really enjoyed the quiche and my my husband liked their meatloaf. If you are looking for something fancier, I would suggest calling the chamber of commerce in Mount Vernon.
There are more places to choose from in the Howard area.
