Detailed Reviews
We stayed here while visiting Kenyon college- a quick ten minute ride away. We had the king suite which was a sitting room and separate bedroom where we easily fit a rollaway. The suite was clean, comfortable and well appointed including a couple of complimentary waters, robes, and slippers. The bath products were aveda. The linens laundered in a fresh scent- not the sterile generic hotel detergent.
Breakfast was also complimentary good and there were a lot of individual servings of foods which included bread items, cereal, eggs, ham and biscuits and gravy. The coffee was tasty!
Most importantly- the staff was friendly and attentive. It’s been a long time since we had excellent service so this was especially appreciated!

We found out we needed to be in Mount Vernon quite late and only had a day to make reservations. All other decent motels were sold out due to a local sporting event. The Grand Hotel had two rooms left. Other than a bit more costly we really enjoyed our time at the Grand.
The Grand sits directly on the city center, a traffic circle with banks, a hospital, county government buildings, a lot of cute little shops, some eating places, elements of a downtown university. The area seemed very safe. There is a generous parking lost next to the hotel for your use.
The hotel itself is beautiful. I could not decide if it had been completely gutted and renovated or was built new. It had elements of older style architecture and style, but felt new. The room was not overly large for two queen beds, but it was adequate. The heating/cooling was wonderful. It was a central system and not an individual unit in the wall. I have found central systems to be less drafty.
The room was very clean and well equipped. The only negative in this regard was the tile in the bathroom and sink area. The design made it "look" dirty when it was not. This is not a reason to avoid the Grand, just a design decision that I feel should have been different.
The breakfast was very nice. There were three hot foods--eggs, French toast, and a meat. The second morning there were potatoes instead of the French toast. Also available were cold cereal, packs of oatmeal to make up, yogurt, three kinds of juices, a selection of breads, bagels, muffins. Hot drinks and Almond milk are also available. Very nice breakfast compared to what some motels offer for breakfast these days.
I would recommend the Grand Hotel. It is a bit more expensive, but you get a step up in quality.

We were back in town for my brothers funeral. The staff were so accommodating and even allowed us to utilize their breakfast area for a pizza dinner with the local family members. The room was clean, warm, spacious and comfortable. We highly recommend this hotel.

Son graduating from Kenyon, so options limited if you don't want to drive in from Columbus. This is a very good establishment for the area. To their credit the staff was very nice and the lobby and building is quiet. To get a room we went through their "lottery" almost a year in advance which requires a guaranteed payment.
Shocked at the price-2 nights before graduation was $300, and the night before and of graduation $500/night for the standard room with 2 beds. I fully appreciate that a business wishes to take advantage of events and recover from COVID, but that seems a bit dear.
Unfortunately, on the first night the A/C was broken which led to a poor nights sleep, but they did give a credit for that inconvenience without my asking on the final folio. Our room was the back of the building-an ugly view but quiet. The front looks out onto a small park area surrounded by a roundabout. Pleasant, but as there are a fair number of motorcyclists in the area with the classic Harley exhaust, you will have to decide if it's worth it.
Breakfast was a standard buffet that you will find in many hotels. Nicely done, but nothing brilliant.
I would say that the hotel seemed so quiet that you may be able to get a room at the busy season and not try to reserve as we did.

Hello! Thank you for rating and reviewing your stay with us. Your points have been taken to our management for review and consideration. Graduation is considered one of the special events for the area, but I am happy to take your points regarding the rate to our rate management team for additional consideration as well.. We have many guests that request and recommend our square view rooms. We certainly hope to host you again in the future and get you into a room with a Main Street or Square view!

While exiting the parking lot at the hotel, my car was struck by the hotel’s iron gate that swung shut and hit my passenger door. It left a huge dent in my new trailblazer. After informing the hotel, they “did an investigation “ and denied my claim saying there were no prior issues with the gate. They also had it serviced the following day after this incident!! They also said there was no matching paint transfer on their swinging gate! I have never dealt with such a shady company.

It was my husband's birthday (June 10th) and I surprised him with a two night stay at the Grand Hotel. We were cheerfully greeted by a wonderful staff member who gave us our room pass and and a free parking pass. Our room was on the 4th floor overlooking the park. The room was just beautiful. The bed was so comfortable. Our bathroom was awesome with a rain head shower!
Even though the regular buffet breakfast wasn't available - they did have a chef prepare breakfast in takeout containers. We were able to sit on the front porch overlooking the city center park.
We intend to return soon!

We have stayed at this location a few times during a high school basketball tournament. Each year, the staff is very helpful and friendly. They are quick to accommodate any needs we have had, and always with a smile. There isn't much going on in this small town. However, the Grand is a great place to stay for a long weekend.

This will be one of our shorter reviews. And, in this case, that’s a good thing. The Mount Vernon Grand Hotel, operated by the Mount Vernon Nazarene University, was reconstructed several years back. As such, it successfully combines a touch of traditional elegance with modern conveniences.
Our room overlooking Mount Vernon’s Public Square was spacious and comfortable. Furniture was traditional, but all functioned as needed. Where the hotel excelled was on the small touches. The front desk clerk warmly greeted us, and took the time to point out everything: elevators, coffee, cookies, parking, breakfast, etc. Every other staff member we encountered was equally upbeat.
Breakfast is included with the stay. While the fare is similar to most intermediate-grade hotels (breads, eggs, meat, potatoes), The Grand did each just a bit better, avoiding the look and taste of industrial fare. The “egg patties” tasted like real eggs, and the potatoes were amply enhanced with rosemary. Oh, and excellent coffee!
The small touches were also noted with the amenities; such as the Aveda toiletries and Caribou coffee pods in the room.
Seriously, the only negative we could cite would be the choice of tile in the entry/sink/toilet/shower areas, the pattern of which gives off a dirty look. We’re calling that a matter of our own taste, and absolutely recommend staying at The Mount Vernon Grand Hotel.

While very nice on the surface, the night was horrible. They control the heating centrally. Thermostat on the wall allows no temp or fan speed control. I called front desk and entire system was shut off. Windows don't open, so I went to front desk. Clerk claimed no access but phoned maintenance manager, who turned it back on, came knocking on my door, then in condescending manner showed using Thermostat. However it in fact controls nothing. I was part of a group who experienced the same. They are controlling hvac and being dishonest about it.

This is a very nice hotel. The staff is nice and helpful. The rooms are comfortable -- especially the beds. The breakfast is ok. The location in Mt. Vernon is great and close to everything. The rooms are clean and tidy. I recommend it highly. A few issues (though nothing that would keep me from recommending it). First, water pressure (at least on the 3rd floor) was so/so. Second, there really is no counter space in the bathroom of the room we stayed in... we moved a small table into the bathroom to create more counter space. Third, while the hotel is VERY NEAT AND CLEAN (no real concerns here) they chose a tile for the bathroom that looks like it is dirty. I suppose it was for an antique look, but I couldn't help looking at it thinking it made the floor not look clean (though they really are). These are small things, however, about a very nice hotel at a good price which couldn't have been a better setting for two lovely days in Central Ohio as the fall colors peaked. I will happily stay again.

Due to the current COVID-19 guidelines and restrictions we cannot offer a hot buffet breakfast. However, we are partnering with our local bakery and offering to-go breakfast bags in the mornings with items from the bakery.
We offer a hot buffet style breakfast. Three hot items and a variety of cold items.
The Mount Vernon Grand allows Certified Service Animals, but unfortunately they do not accept pets.
