Stayed here many times over the past 10+ years, usually 1-2 nights around Memorial day weekend. The people are super nice and the location is ideal. All in, 1 night on 5/29/21 was $225.99, which feels high to me. That is based on my view of market demand in the area (Port Clinton) and my previous pricing at this hotel. The TV in our room only had 1 station (local ABC) which was not incredibly convenient.
I will say that my experience was probably more negative than most just bc I had one of the most undesirable rooms at the property. I was in the “annex” (aka motel part behind the main house) on the ground floor, next to the ice machine and the staircase. Also was a handicap room with a shower that flooded the bathroom if you used it. I got very little sleep because everyone on the second floor who came in after 10 or 11 had to walk by my room and open the door to the interior staircase and go up it. Most people were talking, and if they’re literally 5 feet from my bed I am going to wake up. There were also quite a few people with boats who got up early (4-5::30 am was the busiest time) to go fishing. This meant coming down the stairs, walking by my room window while talking, hitching their boats to their trucks right outside the door, etc. No one was overly loud but it’s hard to sleep through 10 or so people coming and going, hitching up boats, calling back and forth to organize their parties, getting coolers full of ice, etc. All within 5 feet of my window which is about 2 feet from the bed. Some people even knocked on my door at 5:15 am, thinking I was one of their fishing team. Add in that the room’s alarm clock went off at midnight my first night (I didn’t set it) and that the bed is older and sags and you get why I wasn’t a huge fan. The room was decently clean and I didn’t mind the older fixtures. The Wifi does go in and out—I was trying to work and got the message that the network was down every 2-3 minutes for a few seconds, then it would go back to being one bar (or poor to fair according to my computer’s network connection diagnosis). Hotel front desk people were very pleasant and I hope that other guests had a better time. Feel like the room is worth about $40-$60 a night given the older furniture, fixtures, decoration, etc. not the $90-$140 they charge. I booked online through a third party and wasn’t aware of the main building (which is more like a hotel) vs annex issue. Don’t think I will return but advise people to stay out of the annex if they want to try the place.…
Should not be in the hospitality business. Truly awful experience. Booked a Saturday night stay. after we got to our room at midnight, and started getting ready to go to bed, we noticed the floor was soaking wet and the beds were pretty gross. A/C was running and said it was 69, but felt muggy. The entire property reeked of mildew/ mold and the seemed to smell like cigarettes, even though they are explicit in not allowing smoking. We called the front desk to ask for another room, they were fully booked, but offered a refund if we wanted. We accepted and left to go home. The next day, the manager messages us to say they will not refund and they didn't believe our story. I just got off the phone with the owner, Ron. He said they checked the security footage and didn't see us leave and that he thinks we made the whole thing up to get a free room. he told me to dispute it with my cc company. Here is what I will say-This is a crazy busy area in the Summer and they don't need the business, they charge $300/ night and get it. The property is VERY tired, the beds are very thin and old, the whole place smells despite the overwhelming candles in the lobby. They are used to people behaving badly, so no matter what, you will not get the benefit of the doubt. So, buyer beware. They are making a lot of money in the summer from their proximity to the PIB Ferries. If you have an issue-too bad, they will not stand behind their property, the condition or the service. The worst part? The belligerence of the owner and managers.…
Our Guest was a quaint place to stay. It is an older motel, kind of grandma-chic. The room was spacious and the bathroom was super clean. The bed was a little firm for me. Overall, we didn’t spend much time here, but it was a fine place to sleep after a long day exploring the islands and surrounding coastal towns. I would consider staying again.
You get what you pay for. That being said . . . the bed was horrible (the springs kept sticking into my back). Towels could be used as rags to wash a car. Each morning, we were greeted with bugs in the sink (baby roaches? not sure...) The room is dated and has not been refurbished from the 80s. Close to area shops and bars. There are other choices... pick them.
Check in smooth but first room assigned reeked of cigarette smoke and the couch was torn/tattered. Second room was better but the layout of the room is very tight and poor. Rooms are tiny. Could barely get past a dresser and the end of the bed. Bathroom sink/counter is outside the bathroom making it difficult to wash hands or use the mirror without waking/disturbing other family members. The washcloths were literally so thin and had splits in them. Very slow elevator. But of all of this the thing that was most disturbing was the fact that the guests were not following CDC guidelines or the Ohio Governors mask mandate. When I voiced my concerns to the front desk they just looked at me like I had two heads and could care less that the guest were not wearing a mask and getting on elevators and in all the public areas. Also large groups congregated by the outdoor fire pits. I did not feel safe at all staying in this place. I would not recommend or ever come back.…
I forgot some places have these nasty pet friendly rooms. Smelly, nastiest carpet i have ever seen. Review and zoom the pic before staying here.. we used towels for runners when shoes were off. No doubt the worst $167 room could imagine. One night was too long. Great location to restaurants though.
The pricing is absolutely false!!!!! They lost my reservation from May and are charging me twice what I could have gotten on Booking.com. The front desk attendant was very condensing, inconsiderate and rude. Her exact words were "Write anything you want in your review. It's called free speech
I hesitated to book this room because of some of the reviews. I am a germaphobe and would never stay in a run down or dirty place. This was a nice little room. The hotel is close to everything. The pool is small but very nice and my kiddos enjoyed it. The rooms were clean and nice. The only bad thing was the beds need a 2nd pillow. They were comfortable but flat so one wasn't enough. I'm sure we could have asked for another one but I didn't feel it was much of a big deal.
Very friendly staff and rooms are clean and well supplied. Also, the inn is close to the Jet Express, several bars and restaurants and is just across the street from walk-on fishing boats as well as a beautiful view of Lake Erie. Another plus is the Listening Room which features musical shows from time to time, all of which have been excellent. The only downfall is you can hear every footstep in the room above you so the solution to that is to request top floor either in the annex or main building. Overall very nice stay.
